Welcome to a special episode of the BYC on a significant day… Twenty years ago today – June 25th, 2005 – a group of tragic cricket fans in Wellington, dressed head-to-toe in Beige Brigade kit, gathered around some crude recording gear and hit record on what would become New Zealand’s first-ever sports podcast… The BYC. It was the heyday of The Ricky Gervais Podcast with Ricky, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington. The term “podcast” had only just been coined by a Guardian columnist the year before. Born out of the Beige Brigade fan movement formed in 1999, the BYC is now comfortably New Zealand’s longest-running podcast series, sports or otherwise. On a cold, wet Wellington evening in June 2005, New Zealand’s version of Gervais, Merchant, and Pilkington — Paul Ford, Kevin Sinnott, and Jason Willis — recorded the first official BYC episode, backed by resident crooner Blair Sayer.Join ACC Head G Lane joins Dylan Cleaver and Paul Ford for a trip down memory lane! This week, we're going as big picture as imaginable. Philip Pilkington has a thesis about liberalism itself: 1. That it is bad. 2. That it is ending. That's the nub of his new book, released this week. He argues that the modern world order is based on a doctrinaire and unrealistic form of liberalism and has given rise to hollowed-out financialised economies and disintegrating societies that can barely even reproduce their population or meet their energy needs. Only by abandoning our liberal delusions and adopting hard-headed post-liberalism can the West survive. In this special edition, Andrew Collingwood interviewed him in front of an online audience on a live Twitter Spaces. John speaks with economist Philip Pilkington to explore the unraveling of global liberalism, tracing its roots from British imperialism to America's post-World War II dominance. Pilkington argues that economic liberalisation failed to universalise liberal values, as nations like China and India embrace markets while rejecting cultural liberalism. A multipolar world emerges, where non-liberal powers redefine global influence. Family breakdown and demographic decline threaten Western prosperity, with collapsing birth rates and rising welfare costs signalling societal decay. Radical green ideologies, rooted in neo-paganism, prioritise nature over human welfare, risking a return to impoverishment. Pilkington envisions a post-liberal West reviving Christian values to restore stable families and economic vitality.Philip Pilkington is a macroeconomist and investment professional. He is the author of The Reformation in Economics and the soon to be released The Collapse Of Global Liberalism. He also co-hosts the popular geopolitics podcast Multipolarity.

Coming up this week: an audio essays special edition. Philip and Andrew, going head to head, a half hour each, on two big stories that have a more medium-term feel than the usual weekly news pegs. In the red corner, Mr Pilkington takes on the bear market. Is an icy wind coming for global stocks? How it could play out? From the bottoming out of NVIDA to the coming age of tariffs, what are the key triggers? Then, Andrew Collingwood will be taking on medium-term Europe. As the US shrinks from its hegemonic duties, will the EU seize the moment, to attempt to federalise through the stalking horse of re-armament? And given recent trends, could this laager mentality also come with a doubling-down on its own unique brand of autocracy?

One of the most significant challenges that parents have today is getting face-to-face with their kids and teens. The frantic pace of life and ever-increasing digital focus we all have can prevent us from engaging each other in ways that help us grow closer to the people we love. We all struggle in some way with having the healthy conversations we need to have. Our growing tendencies to isolate and communicate via screens are leading us away from the healthy relationships we all need and the conversations that help build and strengthen those relationships. On this month's M2P podcast, you'll join Sass, Amy, and Kerry as they bring you an interview they recorded while at the 2024 D6 Conference in Orlando, FL. The M2P team talks with Patti Pilkington Reed about the importance of having what she calls “smart conversations” with ourselves, our teenagers, and our young adults. Patti is an entrepreneur, author, certified coach, and a growth-oriented leader. The M2P team will dive into a conversation with Patti and discuss some of the key principles found in her new book Face to Face: Smart Conversations with Yourself, Your Teenager, and Your Young Adult. This book is a great encouragement and resource for parents and ministry leaders alike. There are lots of practical nuggets in this episode that will help you both evaluate how you deal with conflict through conversations and how you can help the parents in your church do the same.

Project 2025 is a 920-page bloated opus about taking our fragile democracy and turning into Christian Nationalist nightmare if Trump gets back into the oval office. And Beth read it!! Well, skimmed some portions because oh my god was this bureaucratic gibberish. But that's the point; onslaught us with so much information, we're too numb to fight back. Listen to part one on Strange Country where Beth and Kelly detail how the Project 2025 authors, an assortment of Garbage Pail kids, pin all of society's ills on “wokeness,” abortion, and gay people having rights. The plan is to get rid of all those things. Theme music: Big White Lie by A Cast of Thousands. David Pilkington first stepped through the doors of the Arundell Hotel in 1968 to help out on a fishing day and has been there ever since.I learn about what took him there, what he has seen and the changes he has witnessed both on the river and in fly fishing. As we sit and talk in the new tackle shop I discover why the local streams mean so much to him and why he has never felt the need to stray far from them.I've had numerous requests to ask him along and I thoroughly enjoyed catching up to learn his story.
In the words of Tom Cochrane (who?!) "Life is a Highway - I wanna ride it all night long". And in keeping with this theme and my motto of living life with curiosity, hope and humour - in this episode I'm shining a light on a healing modality that is gaining traction when it comes to resolving trauma. Body-Centred psychotherapist Briony Pilkington and I first met about 18 months ago when I sought to further my quest to become more whole and less held back by forces such as will power (or a lack of), distraction (an oversupply of), lack of impulse control and self sabotage. It led me to Briony and a journey of discovery into how trauma (outside but not excluding shock and major trauma) can lie lurking deep within our somas (bodies) for decades, and hamper our best efforts and intentions to live full and productive lives - both professionally and personally. This episode is part 1 of a 2 part interview I did with Briony. In this episode we unpack the modality and Briony's training and experience in the field. In the episode that will follow - we will explore our client/practitioner journey together - so that people can get up close and personal with what it actually looks (and feels) like to embark on a body-centred healing pathway. I hope you enjoy this conversation.
Millie Pilkington is one of Britain's best-known portrait photographers, with her work regularly appearing in Country Life as well as dozens of other publications. We were truly delighted that she joined James Fisher on the Country Life podcast this week to talk about life behind the lens. She talks about how she turned a hobby in to a dream career, one in which she has dealt with everything from incorrigible dogs to taking private family pictures for the Prince and Princess of Wales. The secret of a good photograph, she explains, isn't just technical — it's emotional. 'Yes, you want to have nice light, you want to have a nice composition, you want to think about how all of this marries together, how it's going to draw people in,' she says. 'But actually the real thing that takes a photograph to a different level is this mood, this emotion, this spirit. And if you can connect with whoever you're photographing, you might not have the perfect crop, or the perfect light, or the perfect something. But that photograph, if it talks to you in some way, if it brings an emotion to you, then you've got some home of someone else feeling that too.'You can see more of Millie's work on Instagram and at her website, milliepilkington.co.uk.Episode creditsHost : James FisherGuest: Millie PilkingtonProducer and Editor: Toby KeelMusic: JuliusH via PixabaySpecial thanks: Adam Wilbourn Hosted on Acast.
