How did you get into motorsports? Who were your heroes growing up? What did you like most about F1, both in the past and today? You've made a very successful career from not only journalism, being an author but also working at historic teams such as McLaren and Aston Martin! Where did the journey begin and how did these opportunities come about? What was the transition like from fan to actual part of the sport? So obviously, it's Pride Month, and many brands are taking the opportunity to express a message of inclusion. However, we know that a lot of it is pinkwashing and that we have a long way to go. I'm particularly reminded of the recent backlash against drag queens and rampant transphobia. What do you think is the goal of F1 and the FIA in that regard? And what do you believe to be the biggest obstacle or challenge they're facing when it comes to making the paddock and race events safe and welcoming to all types of marginalized folk? Matt, you've described yourself as “the only gay in the F1 village” in 1996. How did that notion shape your day-to-day experience or behavior in this macho-esque industry? And how and when did you feel like things were shifting? We all know Sebastian Vettel became a huge LGBTQ ally in the later stages of his career. I wanted to know what the partnership between you and Seb was like? What impressed you the most about his commitment to the message, and where do you see his advocacy going in his life after F1? You're a vocal part and Ambassador of Racing Pride, an organization that promotes LGBTQ inclusivity in motorsports. Tell us about your involvement with Racing Pride. How pivotal was Aston Martin with their Partnership? What's the long term goal? And do you think the Aston Martin is still working towards that goal even without you at the helm? Lastly, I'd like to touch on W Series, which was a single-seater championships for women. And you, of course, were part of its founding members. From the get go, W Series had openly queer representation with drivers such as Jessica Hawkins, Abbie Eaton and Sarah Moore. Why do you think it's easier to have a message of LGBTQ rights when you have women at the forefront? And what can F1 learn from W Series? Lightning round What is your favorite F1 innovation that you think needs to be brought back? Taxi, Dinner and Dishes Name a person from the LGBTQ community would you want to wave the chequered flag and at which race? Pineapple on pizza? For the final words, the floor is yours. A message to our listeners? Upcoming projects? Where can our listeners find you?

There's no other way to put it – Abbie Eaton is a very cool person. The British racing driver has travelled around the world, competing in races across the globe – and pitted her driving wits against Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May on The Grand Tour. After some time out of racing due to an injury we talk about in this episode, she's now back behind the wheel – and is continuing to make change in the sport as an ambassador for Racing Pride. So, we're absolutely delighted to have Abbie onto the podcast to talk about her journey, both on and off the track. We talk about how motor-racing was always her passion; about breaking in and some of the financial hardships that people don't talk about; her most memorable drives; those Grand Tour memories; being a role-model for other LGBTQ+ people in motorsports and so much more besides! In this special edition of our In Conversation episodes, we are excited to bring you Abbie Eaton, racing driver in the W Series women's elite motorsport league. The W Series is a free-to-enter championship, launched in 2018, that provides equal opportunities for women and eliminates the financial barriers that have historically prevented them from progressing to the upper echelons of motorsport. W Series races appear in the racing calendar around the globe, including in Singapore this weekend. Abbie talked with our Executive Director, David Kelly about her driving journey, the obstacles she has faced including her back-breaking racing injury last October, and the success that comes with hard work and commitment. Born to a racing driver father but without a silver spoon in her mouth, Abbie grew up around motorsport. In 2018, she joined the cast of Amazon's The Grand Tour as a test driver. Initially a critic of the W Series, after seeing the debut season and witnessing how it supported the development of the drivers' careers, she converted and jumped back into the driver's seat. Abbie Eaton is a racing driver having competed in a range of Series' including the Mazda supercup, Super 2 series, 2 x British Champion and notably in the W series. She is also a test driver on the series The Grand tour. In this discussion Abbie talks about carving out a career as a woman in a male dominated sport, she shares her drive, personal ambitions to not only compete but to manage everything, from sponsors, to training, recovering from serious injury, to earning an income away from racing as a driving coach. This really encapsulates where the women's sport is at the moment with top talent having to cope themselves, make things work as best they can, while staying competitive. For me this is an insight into the mind and pursuit of a pioneer. Are more on the way? - According to the macheforums poster 0t60-3.5, the Rapid Red model arrived last night to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, two weeks earlier than expected. He picked it up at the dealer last night, just in time to take a few snaps and charge it up. - Ford priced track-ready Mach-E GT at $60K, GT Performance at $65K, an aggressive price for its high end Mustangs that are still eligible for the current $7500 Federal Tax Credit in the US and various state and local incentives. The GT looks similar to the slower Mach-E, with the biggest difference being the plastic carbon fiber faux grill and pony show up front, - The Mach-E GT Performance Edition hits a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/08/20/first-ford-mustang-mach-e-gt-deliveries/ XIAOMI TO BUILD ITS ELECTRIC CAR FROM THE GROUND UP - Earlier this year, in the month of March, Xiaomi officially announced the commencement of its smart electric vehicle business. It was also confirmed that the new division will be led by the company's founder and CEO Lei Jun. - Now, the latest report coming from Science Innovation Board Daily claims that Xiaomi will be building its own car from scratch, and details about the same will be officially revealed by the Chinese company next week. - A well-known tipster Digital Chat Station has also revealed that the company has been in contact with a world-renowned auto parts and emission technology supplier and is also working on a design plan. - the company has talked with several carmakers but has not made any decision regarding any partnership for its electric vehicles business. - Xiaomi aims to offer high-quality smart electric vehicles to allow users globally to enjoy ubiquitous smart life, says Lei Jun. For this new wholly-owned subsidiary to work on the electric vehicles and related business, the company plans to invest around 10 billion yuan (~$1.5 billion) over a period of 10 years. According to European product boss Sjoerd Knipping, the Korean brand's second “EVx” car will be a large SUV targeting the US. But more importantly for us, it will be followed by a model developed for the European market – Knipping spoke of “balancing” the US and other territories. - e large SUV could be branded EV7 or EV8, and it will offer seven-seat capability similar to that of Hyundai's Ioniq 7 SUV confirmed for launch in 2024. It will be followed by a crossover potentially called EV4, sized as a rival for the Volvo C40 and Mercedes EQA. When the winners are announced at next year's New York International Auto Show, there will be a new category just for battery-electric vehicles. - BEVs will be eligible to win the overall 2022 World Car of the Year award; the rules just require that a car be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 a year. The vehicle must also "be priced below the luxury-car level in their primary markets" and must be available in two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, and the USA) in at least two continents, between January 1, 2021, and March 30, 2022. - Several BEVs are in contention for the top award, including the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback, BMW i4, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6. - Jaguar's I-Pace won overall in 2019, and the Volkswagen ID.4 won overall in 2021; if the Porsche Taycan Turbo had been eligible in 2020, it would probably also have romped home to victory but for the fact that it was too expensive to qualify. Well, there's some good news for those that are interested in modifying your classic: EV crate conversions. While this technology is still in its relative infancy, it does seem to be gaining some traction. Ford is teasing an electric crate powertrain solution that is slated for a debut at the upcoming SEMA show. - Chevrolet introduced a similar system back in 2018.
