This week on the Niche Cast we start with a few of our favourite stinky Blackcaps nuggets after another Test loss vs England and in New Zealand. Then we chat through a few Kiwi-NRL updates like Lennix Tovo training with Rabbitohs and NZ Warriors storylines such as the young wave, Tohu Harris' role and replacing Shaun Johnson's kicking/Addin Fonua-Blake's run metres. NZ Breakers keep losing but Melbourne United are the best NBL team and have hearty kiwis in Rob Loe, Shea Ili and Flynn Cameron. Auckland FC won the A-League derby vs Wellington Phoenix which means we have plenty to discuss with notes about playing styles, Kosta Barbarouses and the temple of Mt Smart. We finish with more complaining about Blackcaps, because, well they deserve it.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/elnichecacheNewsletter twice a week: https://thenichecache.substack.comHook us up with a brew: https://buymeacoffee.com/thenichecacheSay kia ora: thenichecache@gmail.comwww.theniche-cache.com(00:33) Blackcaps Nuggets(11:33) Mindfulness(18:36) Kiwi-NRL/NZ Warriors(32:15) NZ Breakers/NBL(43:57) Phoenix women/Auckland FC vs Wellington Phoenix(01:25:08) Blackcaps Melancholy

Tony Kemp - former Warriors coach and ex-Kiwis representative - joins Martin Devlin on It's Only Sport, recapping round 25 of the 2024 NRL season. The weekend was highlighted by the Warriors playing their final home game of the year, meaning it was the last time Shaun Johnson, Jazz Tevaga and Addin Fonua-Blake played in front of home fans in a Warriors jumper. As well as that, the Melbourne Storm secured yet another minor premiership, and the Penrith Panthers' loss to the Canberra Raiders saw them slip down to fourth on the ladder. Kempy and Marty grab their magnifying glasses and dissect every main talking point from the weekend that was.
On today's podcast, It's Only Sport host Martin Devlin indulges in one of the best New Zealand sport stories of the year - golfer Lydia Ko winning the AIG Women's Open at St Andrews, her third career major title and first in over eight years. The New Zealander only a fortnight ago won gold at the Paris Olympics, and you would have to think she is the frontrunner for the Halberg Supreme Award in early 2025.To kick things off though, Devlin delivers a sermon talking about the Warriors' final NRL home match of 2024 against the Bulldogs, which doubled as a farewell for Jazz Tevaga, Addin Fonua-Blake, and most notably the retiring Shaun Johnson. Then, Devlin is joined by PGA professional and golf coach Ross MacLeod to talk Ko's win, NASCAR reporter Nate Ryan discusses Shane van Gisbergen getting a full-time Cup Series drive for 2025, ex-Warriors coach Tony Kemp reviews the NRL weekend, and talkSPORT's Tom Rennie talks Premier League football. All that and much more!
Former Warriors captain and current rugby league commentator Monty Betham joins Martin Devlin on It's Only Sport, previewing the club's final home game of the 2024 NRL season against the Canterbury Bulldogs in Auckland on Friday night. The game doubles as a farewell for Shaun Johnson, Jazz Tevaga and Addin Fonua-Blake who will all play as a Warrior in front of home fans for the final time. Betham and Devlin talk about Shaun Johnson in particular, how important a win for the club is despite their season already being over, what specifically has gone wrong in 2024, and more.

Eddie's back! After a self-imposed break away from the pod, and the Wests Tigers in general, Mr Otto is back in the host's chair. On this off-season edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Eddie, along with Declan McCutcheon and Garry Watson, cover everything that's been happening around our great club. That includes more talk around the review into the Wests Tigers. The guys ask whether the delay in releasing the key review findings, or there appearing to be no major moves occurring at the moment, is a good or bad thing? Should we be starting to grow concerned that significant reforms to the club's administration and governance are/were a bridge too far? Eddie, Garry and Declan have their say on all that. Also, should the owners of the club be concerned about our major sponsor leaving if the review leads to the removal of Chairman Lee Hagipantelis? The other big off-season talking point is the attempt to steal Jerome Luai off of the high-flying Panthers. There's a discussion around how that may pan out over the coming days. The boys give their thoughts on what Luai would bring for the Tigers, where he might play, and whether Penrith or the Bulldogs are a greater threat to get his signature. Addin Fonua Blake's future also comes up for discussion, including whether we should look at trading one of our current players for the big Warriors prop. Adam Doueihi has been in the news over an off-field social media issue, but on the field there are hopes he will play a part in the 2024 Wests Tigers team. The guys give their thoughts on how he might be used. We hope you enjoy the latest edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We're back! After a little break to refuel and recharge, the Wests Tigers Podcast is up and running again just as the Wests Tigers hit the training paddock for season 2024. On this edition, Joel Helmes is joined by Declan McCutcheon, Steve Stretton, and Garry Watson, with one of the main talking points being an update on the Holman Barnes Group's review into the Wests Tigers. We also take a look at Benji Marshall the coach. What will his style be? Will he have the cattle to play the way Benji wants us to next year? Further to all that, what contribution are we expecting from the very experienced John Morris? And, should Wests Tigers be trying to lure Wayne Bennett to the club? Bennett will finish up with the Dolpins at the end of the 2024 season and there's been some talk he could be our future Head of Football. There's also some discussion around the future of Charlie Staines, and we fantasise about adding Addin Fonua-Blake and Jerome Luai into the Wests Tigers team. As part of that Luai talk, we tackle the question of whether the Wests Tigers should be giving new recruits Bud Sullivan and Latu Fainu a chance to prove themselves before making a play for the three-time Premiership winner. And we also take a good look at the 2024 NRL draw for the Wests Tigers. It's good to be back, thank you for your patience!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Four Warriors players picked up awards at the Dally M ceremony on Wednesday night in Sydney. The awards celebrate the best and brightest of the NRL season, which concludes this weekend when the Penrith Panthers take on the Brisbane Broncos. Halfback Shaun Johnson had been one of the favourites for the top gong, but missed out to Kalyn Ponga, of the Newcastle Knights, by one point. However, coach Andrew Webster, winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Johnson and prop Addin Fonua-Blake all won awards. RNZ sports reporter Jamie Wall spoke to Corin Dann.
