Allen Carter has a diverse background as a composer/arranger/drummer/percussionist/educator. Born and raised in Ellinwood, Kansas, he received his Bachelor of Music degree from Kansas State University, and his Master of Music and Doctor of Arts degrees from the University of Northern Colorado. Throughout his school years, he won numerous awards in the areas of performance and composition/arranging. A member of the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers and the Film Music Network, Dr. Carter's work as a composer/arranger includes CBS Television's Motown Records specials, the cable television series Humonos, the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Miss America pageant, commercials, and documentaries for the department of Health, Education, and Welfare. In addition, he has written extensively for instrumental and vocal jazz groups at all levels.
We're incredibly excited to share this interview with author, Allen Carter around the release of his book, "Letters From A Father" which was created from 70 letters that Allen wrote to his children. The letters each have a topic around them that varies from "Keeping Your Word" to "Patience" to "On Death" and are written as words of advice to his children, but also give so much insight to the reader. Allen is also donating all proceeds from the book to a great organization (Chicago Hope Academy) in his hometown of Chicago. Allen also gives us a Top 3 pieces of advice for fellow dads and has inspired many of us to start writing letters to our kids. Allen Carter is an artist, writer, promoter, and the sole creator of two independent comics titles called Damn Tourists and Cosmic Force. He lives in Los Angeles, but is originally from Hawaiʻi. Allen tells us how his favorite childhood cartoons inspired him to create worlds of his own that were patterned after special places in Hawaiʻi. Allen also shares his thoughts on the Black Lives Matter Movement and how we can be effective allies to the people and the cause.
