Bongani Bingwa speaks to Advocate Paul Pretorius SC, Senior Counsel at the Johannesburg Bar and former Chief Evidence Leader at the Zondo Commission, about the newly announced Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, tasked with investigating alleged deep-rooted dysfunction in South Africa’s law enforcement sector. With the terms of reference released by President Ramaphosa just yesterday, Pretorius weighs in on whether the commission can truly cut to the heart of systemic issues or if it risks becoming yet another political whitewash. They explore critical questions around the scope, urgency, and impact of the inquiry: Will its recommendations be taken seriously? Is there institutional will and capacity to act on them? Drawing on his experience with the Zondo Commission, Pretorius provides insight into what it takes for such a process to succeed in the face of entrenched resistance and political inertia. 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. Bongani Bingwa speaks to political analyst Thobani Zikalala about the deepening scandal surrounding suspended minister Senzo Mchunu, who’s been placed on special leave amid explosive allegations of interfering in criminal investigations to shield allies. The claims, raised by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, have led to a string of arrests, some involving individuals named directly by the commissioner. With pressure mounting, President Ramaphosa has set up a Commission of Inquiry to probe the matter, while Parliament's portfolio committee on justice is pushing for an ad hoc committee to investigate. Will this inquiry get to the truth and do so before further damage is done? 702 Breakfast with Bongani Bingwa is broadcast on 702, a Johannesburg based talk radio station. The Righteous Will Not Be Silenced: Jeffrey Epstein Survivor Juliette Bryant Speaks Out

On this episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we are joined with Juliette Bryant, a courageous survivor of Jeffrey Epstein's vile sex trafficking operation. Lured by the promise of a modeling career, Juliette was instead ensnared in a web of calculated evil. She was abused, exploited, and flown to Epstein's private island where countless others suffered the same fate. This is more than a scandal. It is a moral reckoning. And yet, the full, unredacted Epstein list, containing the names of powerful men who enabled or participated in this wickedness, remains sealed. Why is that?Donald Trump promised the American people he would release it. Now, he mocks those demanding it, calling us “bad people” and “weaklings.” Well, it's actually bad and weak to fail to release the Epstein list, Mr. President. But we will not be intimidated. The righteous are commanded to expose darkness, not negotiate with it. Trump's evasiveness increasingly resembles guilt. It's certainly not strong leadership. We will not be silenced. Not by politicians, not by media, and not by fear. We demand the truth.--https://www.thebrandsunday.com/products/the-bible-study-physical?srsltid=AfmBOoq6zS6i2LVAaJq4sRAuJqL9WZWgV03ccH9c4dufm2XMD0ozmV5S

From major investments in border security to a strong push toward deporting illegal immigrants, this bill takes some long-overdue steps in the right direction.Sure, there are parts that could've been better—and no surprise, Elon Musk isn't thrilled because it didn't personally benefit him as much as he hoped—but overall, I agree with the majority of what's in it.Tune in as we break down the good and the bad inside The Big Beautiful Bill—and what it means for the future of our country.Happy Fourth of July, and let's keep America strong.

Using a rigorous quasi-experimental research design, observational data, and open science practices, The House that Fox News Built?: Representation, Political Accountability, and the Rise of Partisan News (Cambridge UP, 2024) carefully demonstrates how the re-emergence and rise of partisan cable news in the US affected the behavior of political elites during the rise and proliferation of Fox News across media markets between 1996 and 2010. Despite widespread concerns over the ills of partisan news, evidence provides a nuanced, albeit cautionary tale. The influence of partisan news is presumed to be powerful, but evidence for its effects on political elites is limited, often based more on anecdotes than science. On one hand, findings suggest that the rise of Fox indeed changed elite political behavior in recent decades. At the same time, the limited conditions under which Fox News' influence occurred suggests that concerns about the network's power may be overstated. Learn more about your ad choices.
