Joseph Hayden's oratorio "The Creation," depicts the biblical creation story from the Book of Genesis, and is set to be performed in Malaysia for the first time since 2013. The one-night-only event, conducted by Prof. Dr. William Weinert from the Eastman School of Music, will feature the Malaysia Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra, and three soloists. We discuss what's in store from Prof Dr David Chin, the Founder and Artistic Director of Bachfest Malaysia, the Director of the Bach Collegium and Music Professor at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a Senior Fellow of the Bach Archive in Leipzig, Germany.
In June, Malaysia's Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra are set to be the first ensemble from Southeast Asia to be invited to perform in the most prestigious and important Bach landmarks in Germany: St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, Bach Church in Arnstadt, as well as St. George's Church in Eisenach. The grand concert tour commences with two fundraising concerts right here in Kuala Lumpur. We catch up with Dr David Chin, the Founder and Artistic Director of Bachfest Malaysia, who is also the Director of the Bach Collegium and Music Professor at Augustana University in Sioux (SOO) Falls, South Dakota, and a Senior Fellow of the Bach Archive in Leipzig, Germany, to find out more about the programme in these fundraising concerts.
The film Living Bach by German filmmaker Anna Schmidt embarks on a journey across six continents, delving into the lives of musicians and singers, who are in one or many ways, profoundly connected to Johann Sebastian Bach's music. All across the globe, individuals of diverse cultures, religions, and backgrounds unite under the spell of Bach's compositions. Through striking visuals and the enchanting sounds of Bach's music, the film reveals the extraordinary relationships these enthusiasts have with his timeless work, showcasing how Bach's music brings joy, comfort, hope, and understanding to people worldwide. This tapestry of diverse voices in the film also celebrates the strength of diversity and the enduring magic of Bach's music that resonates across the globe. The film recently won Best Documentary at the Madrid Film Festival, and is set to be screened right here in Kuala Lumpur, at the end of this month. Con el objetivo de promover espacios de formación para todas las edades, la Municipalidad de General Pico desplegará este sábado 19 una clínica musical a las 10:00 en el Centro Cultural Maracó y un concierto didáctico en el barrio Bicentenario a las 17:00 con entrada libre y gratuita. De esta manera, por la mañana el Ensamble Calibán formado por Gustavo Di Giannantonio, Pablo Grigio, Eliseo Oreste, Benjamin Báez y Emiliano Barri brindará la clínica musical donde se trabajará sobre los instrumentos de vientos y cuerdas, brindando herramientas para el aprendizaje y la ejecución de los mismos. Por otra parte, el mismo sábado a las 17:00 en el Colegio Plan Federal, ubicado en calle 405 entre calles 440 y 442, se realizará el Concierto Didáctico. Los conciertos didácticos son una herramienta municipal para que estudiantes, de primaria y secundaria, se apropien de la música desde la escuela. Trayectoria musical Emiliano Barri En la actualidad es 1º saxo tenor solista de la Banda Sinfónica de la Ciudad Autónoma de Bs.As. y se desempeña como docente en la Universidad Nacional de las Artes y del Conservatorio Superior de Música de Buenos Aires “Astor Piazzolla”. Estudió saxofón en el Conservatorio Julián Aguirre de Banfield, en el Conservatorio Nacional C.L. Buchardo y con Arno Bornkamp en Holanda. Durante 16 años trabajó con el Cuarteto de Saxofones 4mil en la generación y difusión de repertorio original. Recibió el 1º premio de la categoría música de cámara del IX Concurso Bienal de Festivales Musicales de Bs.As. y el 1º premio del Concurso Nacional de Música de Cámara “Música en Plural” organizado por la Secretaría de Cultura de la Nación. Gustavo Di Giannantonio Integró la Orquesta Barroca de Rosario, la Orquesta Barroca del Suquía (Córdoba), la Orquesta del Nuevo Mundo de Rancagua (Chile), la Compañía de las Luces (Bs Aires), la agrupación Musica Fiorita (Suiza) y el Ensamble Le Balcon (Francia). Desde el año 2018 es concertino en la Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Rosario. Y en calidad de solista se ha presentado con distintas orquestas y maestros. Pablo Grigio Oriundo de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, Pablo Griggio está construyendo una carrera como uno de los violinistas argentinos más destacados de su generación. Graduado de una maestría en el Conservatorio de Amsterdam en 2020, y una licenciatura en el Cleveland Institute of Music en 2016 Eliseo Oreste Desde 2018 integró como invitado la Orquesta de música argentina “Juan de Dios Filiberto”, Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Rosario, Orquesta Estable del Teatro Argentino de La Plata, Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón, Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires y la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Argentina, en la cual, desde este año ocupa el cargo de Solista. Actualmente también es solista de la Orquesta Nacional de España. Benjamin Báez Oriundo de Paraguay. Se formó en el Conservatorio Nacional de su país y más tarde en la Academia Orquestal del ISATC del Teatro Colón. Integró la Sinfónica Nacional de Paraguay. Fue primer violoncello en la Orquesta de la Universidad del Norte, del Congreso Nacional del Paraguay, del Bach Collegium de Asunción y de la Orquesta Nacional de Música Argentina Juan de Dios Filiberto. Actualmente, es solista adjunto de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires y docente de la Academia Orquestal del Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón.

Wäre er nicht schon mit 18 gestorben, hätte er Musikgeschichte schreiben können: Prinz Johann Ernst von Sachsen-Weimar wurde von Telemann bewundert und von Bach nachgeahmt. Das Thüringer Bach Collegium legt nun ein heißblütiges Plädoyer für diesen blaublütigen Komponisten vor.
