Before corporate Democrats join calls to “move to the center,” they would be wise to remember that the teacher strikes gave Democrats the Governor’s mansion, not some dishwater appeal to bipartisanship.  Virginia goes Democrat from House to the Governor’s office.  Gordon Sondland, Trump’s EU Ambassador, flips on his boss. The transcripts are scathing. And, Sondland wasn’t the only person that saw transcripts of their depositions released to the public. A giant “uh-oh” was heard coming from the general direction of the White House.  Ayanna Presley endorses Elizabeth Warren for president. It’s the first time a candidate not from one of the major parties wins a seat on the council. Scranton gets its first-ever woman mayor! Paige Cognetti, who ran as a Berniecrat independent, won the special election for mayor last night. Her campaign slogan, “Paige Against the Machine,” will now bring progressive politics to NEPA.  She cut her teeth writing a scathing report of corruption in Scranton’s school district for PA Auditor General Eugene Depasquale.  APSCUF leadership begins its PR push to persuade members to vote in favor of the new contract next week. Many questions remain as to what APSCUF leadership’s embrace of the new PASSHE Chancellor and “interest-based bargaining” will mean for the organizational gains achieved as part of the union’s 2016 strike.  Raging Chicken still awaiting the results of our Right to Know request about legionella bacteria found in multiple buildings across Kutztown University’s campus. Elon Musk makes the case that Space X’s new Starship could cost as little as $2 million per launch...way below the cost of even small rockets. The Aerospace goliath presented NASA with a plan for a simplified “Human Lander System” (HLS) that will make use of the much delayed, still to be operational “Space Launch System.”  The director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Army Lt. General Robert Ashley, painted a dark picture of near-future real space wars as Russia and China are rapidly developing weapons to be deployed in space. The Senate race in California gives Republicans an opportunity to cast a protest vote for a Bernie-supported Democrat against the incumbent Senator Dianne Feinstein (D). A conversation with Jeff Kurzon, a NY Berniecrat candidate, and his lawyer Josh Douglass, about a lawsuit that they have just filed in New York against the Democratic National Committee and the New York State Democratic Committee. The lawsuit contends that the Party's Charter, which the binding, legal contract between the Party and its members, is being violated by the superdelegates. Specifically, their argument is that a superdelegate's vote vastly outweighs that of the average citizen's, and that this contradicts the guiding principle--the heart--of the Democratic Party's Charter. It states that "we acknowledge that a political party which wishes to lead must listen to those who would lead, a party which asks for the people's trust must prove that it trusts the people...". The lawsuit contends that this is therefore - a breach of contract, and - violates Jeff's 14th Amendment right to equal protection, and - his right of freedom to associate. (The first two are clear to me, the third I'm not quite understanding yet.) The relief being sought is for the superdelegates to be forced to conform to the popular vote of their state. For example, if Bernie Sanders won a state by 70-30, then the superdelegates must also vote themselves in the same proportion. Josh and Jeff hope that other New Yorkers may get involved in this lawsuit, and that perhaps other people (cough Berniecrats cough) around the country mighty consider duplicating this lawsuit in their own states. What if this turned into massive class-action lawsuits in all 50 states and territories...? In the short-term, the hope is that this lawsuit would be publicized in both the press and on social media to voters in California. Our claim is that the defendants are violating their own Charter by contunuing to implement the super delegate rule. The super delegates comprise fifteen percent of the overall delegation. Thus, an insurgent candidate such as Bernie Sanders starts out several delegates behind. This rule violates the DNC Charter, as is fully specified in our Complaint, in that the Charter speaks to the Party's guiding principle of listening to the people and following the will of the people. Rule 13 of the "Call to the Convention" further states that the delegation should be in keeping with the "preference of the primary voters." While the courts have held that the Party does have the right to freely associate and thereby establish its own rules...it does NOT have the right to violate its own Charter and, thereby, infringe upon the rights of its own members to freely associate with one another. We have requested a preliminary injunction from the court and are seeking a remedy which limits the power of the super delegates by having them be consistent with the popular vote in the state and have their votes limited to quarter votes or half votes or what have you in order to reach that end point.

It is one of the more diverse districts in the state. This is the second time Jeff is running for this position, against the same incumbent. Last time he tried to "play the game" with aggressive fundraising. He raised around $100,000, compared to his opponent's $750,000. That's 13% of the funds, and he won 20% of the vote: 1800 people. 96% of his district didn't vote. This time, for the 2016 campaign, Jeff is not accepting fundraising at all. He's only using $5000 of his personal funds. He's not actively fundraising, he is out talking with and listening to his constituents. He didn't send out paid staff to collect signatures on his behalf (to get on the ballot), he and enthusiastic volunteers are personally collecting them. Real relationships. The people of NY-7 need to open their eyes to Jeff Kurzon. He needs your vote and your time, and NY-7--and all of us--deserve to have a Congress filled with people like him.
