Laura visited The Poetry Exchange in London. She is in conversation with The Poetry Exchange team members, Michael Shaeffer and Fiona Bennett. Laura Wade is an Olivier award winning playwright and screenwriter. Her National Theatre play HOME, I'M DARLING premiered at Theatr Clwyd in 2018 before playing at the National, where it received rave reviews. HOME, I'M DARLING won the award for Best New Comedy at the 2019 Oliviers. Laura's screenplay THE RIOT CLUB, an adaptation of her acclaimed 2010 stage play POSH, opened in cinemas on September 2014. The film is directed by Lone Scherfig and stars Max Irons, Sam Claflin and Douglas Booth. Laura has also adapted Sarah Waters' TIPPING THE VELVET for the stage and in 2018, Laura adapted Jane Austen's unfinished novel THE WATSONS for the stage for Chichester Festival Theatre. You can find out more about Edna St. Vincent Millay and read more of her poetry at the Poetry Foundation: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/edna-st-vincent-millay Ashes of Life is read by Laura at the beginning of the conversation, with the gift reading of the poem by Fiona Bennett. ***** Ashes of Life By Edna St. Vincent Millay Love has gone and left me and the days are all alike; Eat I must, and sleep I will, — and would that night were here! But ah! — to lie awake and hear the slow hours strike! Would that it were day again! — with twilight near! Love has gone and left me and I don't know what to do; This or that or what you will is all the same to me; But all the things that I begin I leave before I'm through, — There's little use in anything as far as I can see. Love has gone and left me, — and the neighbors knock and borrow, And life goes on forever like the gnawing of a mouse, — And to-morrow and to-morrow and to-morrow and to-morrow There's this little street and this little house.

FAWLTY TOWERS MEETS NOISES OFF IN NEW HIT COMEDY The UK’s Olivier Award-winning theatre company Mischief Theatre is bringing its comedy masterpiece The Play That Goes Wrong to Australia for the first time from February next year. The play introduces ‘The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’ who are attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong…does, as the accident-prone thespians battle on against all the odds to get to their final curtain call. The Play That Goes Wrong is a highly physical comedy packed with finely-tuned farce and slapstick delivered with split-second timing and ambitious daring. Starring a bunch of ‘would be’ Australian thespians including Logie award-winner BROOKE SATCHWELL, DARCY BROWN, FRANCINE CAIN, ADAM DUNN, LUKE JOSLIN, GEORGE KEMP, JORDAN PROSSER, NICK SIMPSON-DEEKS, TAMMY WELLER plus original UK cast member and current Mischief Theatre actor, JAMES MARLOWE. Winner of Best New Comedy at London’s Olivier Awards last year and acclaimed with five star reviews, The Play That Goes Wrong is currently playing to packed houses in the West End and makes its debut on Broadway next year. This is Mischief Theatre’s first Australian Tour and they look forward to Going Wrong, upside down, on the other side of the world. The Play That Goes Wrong is guaranteed to leave you aching with laughter! Sterling and Stroili talk shop with 2012 LA Comedy Award nominee Stephanie Jones (“Funniest Actress in a Comedy”) about her career and her starring role in the hit web TV series Good Job, Thanks! Created and written by Ryan Glasgow, and also nominated for an LA Comedy Award as “Best New Comedy”, Good Job, Thanks! follows showbiz casting diva, Linda Livingston-Black (Jones) as she struggles to maintain her sanity in a job where day-to-day “normal” is anything and everything imaginable. The Live Arts Calendar highlights the LA Opera’s production of Albert Herring at the Los Angeles Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion; and Celebrate Dance 2012, an annual, one-night-only dance festival showcasing the work of nine choreographers and seven dance companies at Glendale’s Alex Theatre. Jones shares an embarrassing career moment. Note: Bryonha Parham (currently co-starring in Porgy and Bess on Broadway) was originally set to guest on this edition of State of the Arts. Due to an unexpected conflict, Ms. Parham will be rescheduled for a near future appearance). Sponsored by Breakdown Services (http://www.breakdownexpress.com/)
