Things in the scene started to take a turn around 2007. Punk went crunk, and for a while, there was no stopping it. However, some bands tried to ride the line between the two, and we think that no one did it better than 3OH!3. That’s not to say we enjoy 3OH!3, but they at least made the biggest waves. Resting somewhere between Attack! Attack! and Brokencyde, 3OH!3 made a space for themselves on the Warped Tour stage where they allegedly met and became close friends with Katy Perry of all people. Another week, another terrible album. Broken Records continues to plunge waist deep into the very worst of music's grottiest recesses to find the worst album ever. Remfry and Steve believe they have a genuine contender this week, as they try and pick their jaws off the floor after hearing the debut album from crunkcore fools Brokencyde; I'm Not a Fan, But The Kids Like It!  Released on the 16th of June 2009, Brokencyde managed to mix some of the least appealing elements of the least appealing music ever made and somehow make them even worse. Critics despised it, which, you suspect, was their intention all along, but over a decade down the line, does it really still inspire such negative feelings? Or did you have to be there?

Brokencyde were so ahead of the curve that people didn't understand them at the time. Because of this, they received a lot of hate and death threats for the music they made. Even with all of the hate, they still had tight fan base and did great numbers. The overall message of their music is to be yourself and to have a fun time. The Summer of Rad returns! This week the rad gang hits the great outdoors (i.e. Kyle's lovely backyard) with Matt Lantrip and Brandie Posey, two Warped Tour veterans, to discuss this venerable summer music institution. It's the day after Kyle and Nat's big Fourth of July party, and Kyle and Laura spend a lot of the episode downing leftover Jello shots. The gang weighs in on the good, the bad, and the ugly side of the festival and talks about the influence of things like Hot Topic and Myspace on the way that a generation of kids found music. (The late '90s and early '00s pop punk ecosystem was a delicate place full of a lot of dyed hair with swoopy side bangs, and this group has some opinions about it.) About halfway through, Kyle's brother Kasey joins the fray. Together, they chat about the best acts they've ever seen along with a few of the worst. They also have a spirited debate about the most "Warped Tour" band of all time and give some tips for how to make it through a hot day at the festival without dying.
