We dive deep into the origins of the band, including how they formed, the story behind the name, and the other name they almost went with... trust us, it's great. Stephen shares the unforgettable story of touring with Crazy Town in 2018, including the now-viral performance at a diner at 8am that you have to hear about to believe. We also get into the emotional core of their brand new album ‘This Pain Will Serve You', available everywhere now. Stephen opens up about the deeply personal themes in the record and what fans can expect from their upcoming US headline tour. Also this week, In this weeks edition of The Chronicles of Podcast, Tom and Jamie are buzzing with excitement for Slam Dunk Festival this weekend! Tom also shares a truly bizarre story about a woman who keeps old batteries in an odd storage choice... bladder aid? The boys catch up on their weeks—Tom shares more thoughts on Britain's Got Talent and the standout performance by 'IDolls', while Jamie finishes Season 2 of Andor and shares his verdict. Formed in 2014, As December Falls are a long way from their beginnings. The band achieved self-sufficiency early on as a matter of survival after being told they were ‘too this' and ‘too that' from the industry gatekeepers when looking to release their self-titled debut album in 2019 (which has received over 4 million streams to date). Their DIY attitude and business know-how resulted in the band selling out 90% of shows on their most recent headline tour around the UK and appearing at Slam Dunk Festival, 2000 Trees, Tramlines Festival, Camden Rocks, Czech's Rock For People to name a few. In October 2022, As December Falls headed out on their first European tour, playing to sold-out shows in Berlin, Kassel, Hamburg, Oberhausen and Prague. Join The Club (due July 2023 via InGrooves) is set to be an important release for As December Falls - their chart-eligible third album may be their heaviest yet and is markedly more attitude-laden than 2021's “Happier”, which is perhaps the most noticeable on acoustic single “Home” where self-assuredness runs throughout. As December Falls worked with producers John Mitchell (on Go Away) and Alex Copp (Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes), mix engineers Ian Dowling (on Home - One Direction, Kasabian, McBusted) and Stevie Knight (Yours Truly, Stand Atlantic) and Grant Berry (All Time Low,, Static Dress) for mastering to bring Join The Club to life. As December Falls's fiercely independent streak is out in full force on their forthcoming record.

Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, this is episode 53 and the first episode recorded in 2022. Due to the ongoing covid pandemic, all of the planned recordings for January have been cancelled due to to either the gigs not going ahead or requiring to keep touring parties closed to outside visitors in order to keep the tour going - all of which makes perfect sense and I fully support. My guest this episode is Joe Cabrera of Leeds based band Beauty School who have signed to and have a very exciting year planned with some amazing shows already booked including a headline show at The Key Club in Leeds on 9th April, opening the Rock Scene stage at this years Slam Dunk Festival and some support dates in March which Joe announces in this conversation.  It was great hearing about Joe's journey in music thinking about a lot of the bands that influenced him and experiences he's had.  If you're not aware of Beauty School, firstly you're in for a treat especially if you are a fan of as their press release accurately describes as emo infused alternative rock but I'd add if you're a fan of hook laden catchy and well crafted music. I've been listening to 4 tracks including current single ‘Take it slow' and upcoming single ‘Pawn Shop Jewels' both of which have been stuck in my head for days.  Take It Slow has been added to the Wiypodcast playlist on Spotify and I will do the same with Pawn Hop Jewels once that has been released.  Before the conversation starts, I'd like to point out that background ambiance and coffee were provided by http://kapowcoffee.co.uk on the calls in Leeds. I strongly recommend it.  https://beautyschool.band/

Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you're all very well. This is episode 52 and wraps up the recordings from Slam Dunk Festival 2021 at Temple Newsam in Leeds.  This was a lovely way to end the day before heading out to enjoy The Alkaline Trio and NoFx, both of whom I last saw at Temple Newsam as part of the Leeds Festival nearly 20 years ago!   My guest is DJ Zoe London. Now I had only heard of Zoe around 8 months prior to meeting her but in that time I have noticed her name on Leeds MadiGras, Leeds & Reading Festival, the Download festival Pilot and In the park festival featuring McFly, scouting for girls and others. Having then seen a few videos from these events I was genuinely fascinated as to how she got into the DJ world and where her influences come from as she has built a solid reputation for her mixes and entertaining show.  I managed to get time with Zoe after she had finished with a few hours of press time and had made herself comfortable on the sofas. She was incredibly open and happy to chat about anything including how all other DJs she knew growing up are shit - not her exact words and I may be exaggerating a little there.  Zoe educates me in the world of Twitch streaming and ways in which the DJ community have supported each other through the pandemic as well as the attitudes she has to deal with as a woman in the music industry.

On today's edition of "Flashback Friday's", I highlight a record that came out in the year 2017. The record I have chosen for this week comes from The Movielife and it's called "Cities In Search of A Heart". The Movielife is a Long Island punk rock band composed of vocalist Vinnie Caruana, guitarist Brandon Reilly, and drummer Brett Romnes. The band originally formed in 1997 and disbanded in 2003, but announced their official reunion in December 2014. Caruana and Reilly re-connected as friends and shortly afterwards began talking about a potential the Movielife reunion. The band subsequently began rehearsing in December 2014, performing their first shows since 2011 in New York City at Irving Plaza in February 2015. Asked whether a new album would be released, Caruana said he would "never rule that out". The Movielife performed several additional shows in the US later in the year, including an appearance at Today's Mixtape Festival, as well as a tour of the UK in June. In March 2016, Caruana revealed that the band were in the process of writing new material. The following month, the band released "Future Feeling (Afraid of Drugs)" as a single. In 2017, the group performed at Slam Dunk Festival in the UK. All promotional materials posted to the band's Twitter after the 2016 Presidential election feature only Brett Romnes, Brandon and Vinnie, implying they are the only current members of the band. The band's fourth album, Cities in Search of a Heart was released in September 2017 through Rise Records. In May and June 2018, the band supported New Found Glory on their Sick Tour in the US. On today's episode of Flashback Friday's, I'm highlighting a record that was released in 2014. It's the second full-length from We Are The In Crowd, and the album is called "Weird Kids". We Are the In Crowd is an American rock band from Poughkeepsie, New York, formed in 2009. The band consists of Taylor Jardine, Jordan Eckes, Mike Ferri, Rob Chianelli, and Cameron Hurley. They released their debut EP, Guaranteed To Disagree, on June 8, 2010, and followed it up with their first full-length album, Best Intentions in 2011. Their second full-length album, Weird Kids, was released on February 18, 2014. The band announced a hiatus in February 2016. They have since performed their first shows in 6 years at Slam Dunk Festival 2021. Weird Kids is the second studio album by American rock band We Are the In Crowd. Weird Kids was produced, mixing, and recorded by John Feldmann. Tommy English and Zakk Cervini did additional production and mixing; Joe Gastwirt mastered the album. Hello people! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope everyone is doing as well as can be.  This is episode 48 and a return to some of the conversations I had at Slam Dunk Festival 2021 featuring multi instrumentalist member of The Sleeping Souls and Mongol Horde, Mr Matt Nasir.  Now, I love a Frank Turner Solo gig but when The Sleeping Souls are in full flow, it's quite a force and has produced some of my favourite gigs and festival sets of the last decade and probably more! Matt is a key element in this and has now gone on to duet with Frank. This was lovely to chat and it was also great to add to my Sleeping Souls collection.  We get in to discussing Matt's introduction to music and he is quite possibly the guest who started working as a musician  at the youngest age, how he came to join Frank, joining a hardcore band whilst disliking much of the hardcore- also we agree on a plan to get a new Mongol Horde album recorded.

Hello people! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you're all well and if you're listening close to the release of this episode I hope you've managed to get out and enjoy some of the September sun! It's been 2 weeks since slam Dunk festival in Leeds and Hatfield.  It has been amazing seeing the reaction from those who attended, performed at and created the festival.  Before we get into the conversations I want to use this introduction to talk about a couple of points. Firstly I was incredibly grateful to be at the festival this year - it was my first live music event and first public event since March 2019. The fact that Slam Dunk went ahead this year should not be taken for granted - this was rescheduled multiple times, took place in September instead of May, went through many line up changes and yet still managed to include sets by U.K., international and bands that for all intents and purposes, don't exist anymore! The amount of work that has gone into this from the Slam Dunk team, which is no where near as big as you might think, is impressive. They have taken financial and reputational risks to keep the festival going and pulled it off whilst still keeping the scale and both north and south legs.    Secondly it was brilliant to see how the festival has evolved and grown from the one I first attended in 2006 which had one stage in millennium square of Leeds and featured the last time I saw Capdown prior to this year. Having previously taken over Leeds city and many venues, this 2nd outing held in the original site of Leeds festival took me back to memories of early festivalemorie - this felt like an extension and development of the concrete jungle stage which is where I first heard bands like reel big fish, bowling for soup, the Ataris, the crockets and Alkaline trio.  From what I remember as a club night and and some fantastic gig at the now closed cockpit in Leeds during the early 2000s it was amazing and a little emotional to see what the team created - not just a solid line up in difficult times after many last minute changes but the atmosphere which was full of energy and positivity.    It was a busy day of conversations but also great to catch some brilliant sets and also meet up with friends, some of whom I hadn't seen in person for 2 years.    https://www.holdingabsence.com/ http://www.zebrahead.com http://www.vukovi.co.uk http://www.dollskinband.com https://www.trashboat.co.uk https://www.slamdunkfestival.com

Liam is at Slam Dunk Festival where he sat down with Joey Cape. Most punks will know Joey as the vocalist for 'Lagwagon', but some will also know him as the guitarist for the punk-rock super cover band 'Me First and the Gimme Gimmes'. You might not know that he was also the lead vocalist for the experimental group, 'Bad Astronaut', until they disbanded due to the death of two drummers. Joey has also released several solo albums; one of which is available to pre-order now via this link.   In this episode, you will hear Liam and Joey discuss the final season of Game Of Thrones (SPOILER ALERT!). Joey talks about being the wrong height for the mosh pit and how Fat Mike thought 'Lagwagon' were "too metal" when the band became the first artists to be signed to Fat Wreck Chords.   You will also hear about Joey being a little pissed off at first of the success of 'Me First and the Gimme Gimmes' and how 'Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah' is still making Joey smile 15 years after its release.   Joey relives the Revival Tour 10 years on when he played with the likes of Chuck Ragan, Frank Turner and At The Drive In's Jim Ward.   They finish up with Liam asking Joey to talk about 'Bad Astronaut', and the deaths of Derrick Plourde and Erik Herzog (both former drummers of the band) and that leads to them talking about the death of Tony Sly and mental health.   As always your band play out the show and this week is a band from Helsinki, Finland called TERESA BANKS so stick around for that.   Lastly, Liam announces that Punks In Pubs will be going to Punk Rock Holiday to represent and will be looking to interview several bands on the bill for your pleasure.   The issue... Punk Rock Holiday is in Tolmin, Slovenia and Punks in Pubs are too broke to fly so Liam will be driving! To support the podcast and put petrol in the car you can pick up a t-shirt via this link or go give what you can via the Punks In Pubs Go Fund Me account and help Punks In Pubs get across Europe!   Don't have the cash? No issue! You can support the podcast by rate and reviewing Punks in Pubs or - tell your mates about Punks in Pubs and follow the podcast on all the socials @punksinpubs.
