• It boils down to how you learn and communicate • “We aim to transform the way people communicate” (Total Recorded Time is 15:08) Like most people, you've probably been called a lot of things over the years. But genius? Probably not. But, according to business leadership researcher Catherine Mattiske you might just be a genius, or, more specifically, you might have an inner genius. Ms. Mattiske explains more in this Bizgnus Interview…. Please click here to watch the Bizgnus interview: https://youtu.be/JmyT0KY1cp4 “I devised 12 archetypes,” Ms. Mattiske says. She says this helps people “attach their learning preference and their communications style to a particular framework.” In her new book “Unlock Inner Genius: Power Your Path to Extraordinary Success” (The Performance Company; September 2021) and training course, individuals learn which of 12 “Inner Genius Archetypes” they are by completing a brief online profile. She says this can improve their ability to learn and communicate in all aspects of their life. “We have never been in a more rapidly changing world than we are now,” says Ms. Mattiske. “We all gather, process, and communicate differently. “By understanding how to interpret information we aim to transform the way people communicate and connect with the world around them.” For more information: https://thegeniusquotient.com/

It's not often that we talk to someone who invented a fresh approach to instructional design. In this Powered by Learning episode, Catherine Mattiske, managing director at Inner Genius, shares how her ID9 intelligent design approach delivers results. Show Notes:In her interview, author, speaker and L&D professional Catherine Mattiske shares practical takeaways and inspirational ideas to shape your next learning solution. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Catherine Mattiske discuss:Learning agility versus job performanceLearning agility as the center Making communications more effective What it takes to learn Key Takeaways:When it comes to potential, learning agility is more important than job performance. With that, learning agility is a good indicator of job performance. Results agility, people's ability to change, mental agility, intuition, and self-awareness - at the center of all that is learning agility. It's important to be aware of how you're communicating with people. It's possible to intentionally structure your communication in a way where you're reaching out effectively in a balanced way that touches all archetypes. Learning isn't that fun. It's hard work. It takes a lot of intention, a lot of effort, and time - especially if what you're trying to learn is how to learn. However, learning is very worth it. "We all have within us, that zone where we are high performing. If you can get into that expert zone, that's where you can unlock your ability to learn and you can then increase as a result of learning agility." — Catherine Mattiske See Dean's TedTalk “Why Business Needs Intuition” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEq9IYvgV7I Connect with Catherine Mattiske:Website: https://innergeniusnow.com/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/innergeniusnow/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/innergeniusnow Twitter - https://twitter.com/innergeniusnow LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/catherinemattiske/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbUPn4yLKx0mSPGBXEGMSRA Connect with Dean:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgqRK8GC8jBIFYPmECUCMkwWebsite: https://www.mfileadership.com/The Mission Statement E-Newsletter: https://www.mfileadership.com/blog/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deannewlund/Twitter: https://twitter.com/deannewlundFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MissionFacilitators/Email: dean.newlund@mfileadership.comPhone: 1-800-926-7370

Today Rob interviews training expert, author, and publisher Catherine Mattiske. Catherine is internationally renowned and consulted for her 30 years experience in personnel training and coaching and has helped countless numbers of professionals reach their business goals. Now she is taking her methods out to everyone, everywhere. KEY TAKEAWAYS Catherine wanted to be a teacher but was advised to take the path into corporate training and has expanded this for her whole career. She has analysed peoples preferences for communication and learning styles to optimise speed in learning times and information retention. There are twelve learning archetypes and efficiency is achieved by matching these up. By using this method you can create a team map to visualise the lines of communication within the team. If someone is learning against their learning preferences it will be almost impossible to get them to reach their potential. BEST MOMENTS ‘It became then this life passion of “how much can people learn in the shortest amount of time?”' ‘I am an avid reader of learning and brain theory. This nerd side of me I was able to map the different ways that the brain processes things.' ‘There is a tool called ‘The Inner Genius Wheel' and it allows you to talk or communicate, write, coach, whatever to all twelve archetypes in an order that makes sense.' ‘So if you can get people going with their learning preferences, that takes re-languaging as a coach. ‘ ABOUT THE GUEST Catherine Mattiske is a leading training professional, author, and publisher, with an internationally acclaimed career spanning 30 years across an array of industries including banking, insurance, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and retail. Unlock Your Inner Genius, published in 2021.EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:The story behind her ‘ID9 Intelligent Design' principlesWhat L&D leaders are doing wrong OR Where companies go wrong with Learning and DevelopmentFeedback loop and communication lines for setting up your L&D processThe virtual L&D paradigmHer views on the rise of cohort-based learningInsights from her recently published book ‘Unlock Your Inner Genius: Power your path to extraordinary success'What L&D Leaders are doing wrong or where companies go wrong with learning and development?Catherine recognises that there are many fairly fundamental issues in organizations. The preliminary aspect is to understand the value of learning in the organization. How do they truly value learning? Do people show up for learning? What's the no show rate? What's the feeling around learning and development programs that are put on by L&D or HR?Feedback loop and communication lines for setting up your L&D processThe senior leaders always focus on a simple question, ‘What do you need to do your job better to achieve our visions and goals?' The key to this question is learning and performance. Adults learn, all day every day. Even a small google search provides them with new knowledge. However, when they are told to undergo a training program for learning, a resistance starts creeping in. There is no more the same level of curiosity, motivation and engagement. Because to read and understand is no longer a training program now, since there are no behavioural changes experienced by the participants. The virtual L&D paradigmDuring the beginning of the pandemic, the actual training schemes were converted into virtual programs just by putting all the related information in slides, presented during zoom calls. However, this did not prove to be helpful, since there was no interaction between the parties. ‘Check the box- I did the training' became the approach. There was no value in such programs, no one learnt anything new from such virtual activities.Follow Catherine on LinkedInGet the highlights of this episode in our blog.Produced by: Priya BhattPodcast host: Abhash Kumar
