In this episode of Chasing the Insights, I talk to trainer extraordinaire Jeff Seckendorf. Jeff talks to us about bringing coaching to learning. Jeff began his career as a photographer and filmmaker, first as a stills photographer for UPI and other national publications, then as a director/cameraman producing, directing, and/or photographing over 1000 TV commercials, dozens of music videos, movies, and documentaries. One recent project documents a team of Parkinson's patients on a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. Jeff has won numerous awards for his cinematography, including Sundance Film Festival and Independent Spirit Award nominations for best cinematography. In 2008 Jeff eased out of the film industry and founded Unified Team Diving, a global scuba training and certification agency. While traveling the world training scuba instructors, Jeff authored eight training manuals and dozens of online courses. Jeff also teaches a “train the trainer” corporate leadership course. In 2022 Jeff became the Director of Operations for the Parkinson's Association of San Diego. As a masters athlete Jeff races a bicycle on track and has stood on the podium multiple times at the California state championships. He holds the hour record in his age group at the San Diego Velodrome and is a course record holder at the World 6-Hour Time Trial Championships. Jeff's current project on the bike is an attempt to break the U.S. hour record in the 70-74 age group. This entails riding his bike over 44 kilometers in one hour in a velodrome of his choosing. The hour record has led to his renewed interest in purpose. Initially this ride was completely self-serving, much like climbing a mountain because it's there. But that seemed like an empty reason to do all this hard work. So, as his training ramped up and got harder, and the commitment became more important, the purpose came into very clear focus and Jeff realized he could use this event to motivate others to find purpose. Jeff also offers a “Path to Mastery” workshop to help people discover what a renewed sense of purpose can look like. This short exercise guides the audience to look at something they are currently good at, how they got there, then apply that to something new. This interactive session looks at a process of discovery/training/practice/teaching and helps people answer the question, “I need a new purpose but I don't know what to do and I don't know what I'm good at.”

John Lester is a sales training guru. So much of the information you use to try and make your sales improve is simply out of date or wrong. John has spent the last 40 years in direct selling, sales management, sales process improvement, and messaging. His work has ranged from very large Fortune accounts, primarily in the financial services space, to small firms trying to create a sustainable and repeatable sales process. Sales is hard. Unless you have done it professionally and consistently as a career you don't fully understand the challenges. Sales is about momentum, staying on track, choosing which thread to pull on. It is about constantly being pulled and pushed between your organization and the prospect / customer. It's easy to think that the customer and competition are the biggest challenges. They are not. The biggest challenges are in two areas. The first are internal to your organization. Their impact is felt in pre-sales, closing, and implementation. And they can and will stop your opportunities before you get traction. The second is found in the mindset, attitudes and focus of the salespeople themselves. Both factors will slow you down, cost you deals, demoralize you, and cause you endless stress. But it doesn't have to be that way. Even a 20% improvement may result a significant change in your outcomes! I have experienced and examined these issues my entire career. And found common threads or causes. Like sales, fixing these issues is not easy, but it can be done. It takes time, hard work, and honesty. I have identified most of the potholes and have devised a path to help you avoid them. John's job is to help you expose your blind spots so you can focus on a consistent and repeatable revenue stream.

Neal Fisher lost 8 years of his life because of poor financial decisions that lead to a mountain of debt. These poor financial decisions were a result of immature grandiosity and poor daily habits. At the same time he found himself divorced and completely out of shape. Every problem under the Sun has the same singular source - conflict or flaws within the mind. Neal's mess was a result of flawed character. He eventually surmounted these challenges and resolved internal division by unifying his mind and body - by bridging the gap between the conscious and the subconscious to yield the Ultraconscious. The Ultraconscious is the unborn entity within - our highest and best self that we are all being called to become. We access this by letting go of our ego control, listening to our heart and allowing the source to flow through us. Neal's job is to help people uncover their true individuality and strength; to become free in spirit no matter what the physical circumstances may be. The best path is a fusion of form and intellect, skill and substance. The process of cultivating genius is simple but not easy. Hybrid mastery entails nurturing your mind and your body so that you may clearly access the source – this is how you become a Unified Man. A Unified Man is clear. A Unified Man is strong. A Unified Man is in control. A Unified Man rules his internal territory – he has built a Nation from Within.
