We recap the Chicago Street Course weekend and then are joined by Alex Prunty to talk about the Slinger Nationals among other things.
Phil and Josh spend part of Independence Day to record E176 of the GSP aka "1776, We are the champs!" The guys get into the amazing shock result of Shane Van Gisbergen making his Cup debut for Trackhouse and Project 91 and winning at the Chicago Street Course. Phil and Josh provide their takes on the race, the spectacle and whether it is a good or bad thing that the three-time Supercars champion came to the States and won. Also, what happened to those dominant Toyotas? The XFinity race was a mess the entire weekend and was called after multiple attempts to restart for Cole Custer. At Mid-Ohio, Alex Palou showed once again why he's the gold standard in the IndyCar Series with a masterful performance to earn his third consecutive victory. Colton Herta and Graham Rahal started on the front row, but pit road played a huge part in their eventual finishing positions. The biggest story outside of Palou was rookie Benjamin Pedersen doing his best King Hiro impression on multiple drivers, including Palou. Formula 1 saw the usual winner at Austria, but the battle for second and behind was more interesting with Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez rounding out the podium. The GSP Roundup goes over F2/F3 at Austria and previews for Great Britain this weekend, WSBK, Indy NXT, FIM World Supercross GP, IMSA, Supercars, Extreme E, WEC and F1 Academy before the Tate Fogleman Algorithm makes its triumphant return to make selections for all the NASCAR races this weekend. Phil and Josh preview and make picks for the Trucks at Mid-Ohio and the XFinity/Cup doubleheader at the Atlanta slot car track. Josh lets us know what is going on in the world of sim racing, gaming and go-karting in the Sim Segment before Show Close.
Chase Holden recaps the NASCAR weekend in Chicago breaking down all the big moments that happened in the Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series. Even with all of that rain and the threat of darkness, the /shortened 75 lap race was amazing and surreal as many thousands of people managed to get a glimpse of what was happening on many major streets in the city of Chicago. Major kudos to Ben Kennedy and Julie Geise for pulling this event off. And for the city of Chicago, you all should be proud. What a fun and fantastic weekend it was, even with the torrential rain that lasted 12 hours on Sunday. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bigzman34/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bigzman34/support

The crew goes over the key players in each race and the points along with NBC's return to cover the sport thankfully. The GSP Roundup went over MotoGP/Moto2 at Assen, IMSA Six Hours at The Glen, NHRA at Norwalk, WRC Rally Kenya, Formula E in Portland, F1 Academy in Zandvoort, WSBK at Donington, Indy NXT at Mid-Ohio, FIM World Supercross in Birmingham, UK and F2/F3 at Red Bull Ring. The guys get back to limit their F1 preview and picks behind Fish Lips for Austria before the previews of IndyCar at Mid-Ohio and the wild card Cup and XFinity races at the Chicago Street Course. Josh lets us know what's going on in the world of iRacing in the Sim Segment before Show Close.
Very little to mention except that 20th century technology was needed, because 5 to 6 inches of standing water has made the course being flooded. With 10,000 pounds of concrete on both sides, there's no place for the water to go. That's why there are manhole covers. Note that this podcast went live over 2 hours since Cole Custer was declared the winner after 25 laps. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bigzman34/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bigzman34/support

In this episode, Bobby discusses the week's news, goes over the races at Nashville Superspeedway and previews this weekends races at the Chicago Street Course.
Sports car ace and NASCAR moonlighter Andy Lally joins Davey Segal (6:15) ahead of the inaugural Chicago Street Course race to preview the first-of-its-kind race and event. Having prior street course experience, Lally dishes on whether or not he has an advantage for the weekend, shares his thoughts on NASCAR broadening their horizons lately, how the deal to run limited Cup races for Rick Ware Racing in 2023 came about in the DM's with Marcus Lemonis and adjusting to the Next Gen car with little to no practice time. Lally also reminisces on his 2011 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year campaign, first career start at his home track of Watkins Glen back in 2009, running in the rain (and battling for the lead) last year in Portland, balancing a full IMSA schedule with his other motorsports ventures, time in the FOX booth and doing other media work and more. Plus, how and why he became a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu, his reasons behind going vegan, being a championship street luge racer and why he only has one Rolex watch from his countless IMSA victories at Daytona. Papa Segal pays homage to “The Iceman” (no, not Terry) and the No. 91, Davey reviews Ross Chastain's statement win at Nashville and previews the Chicago Street Race.

A pair of Champions, two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr. and two-time Daytona 500 champ Dale Earnhardt Jr. come to the table to talk about Unser's spectacular life, career and a fall from grace that few could even imagine. Unser Jr.'s resume reads as a fairy-tale, but behind the scenes, his real life was anything but. Most saw the feel-good story of "Little Al," son of a four-time Indy 500 champion, blossoming to become his own success in the Indycar ranks. Seemingly overnight, he was a winner and then a Champion. Hidden in the shadows of the celebrations was the dark side of the driver. Cocaine, marijuana, alcohol abuse, prostitution, and a chain of arrests all took his life to the lowest of lows. How low? In 2012, alone in his apartment, Al Unser Jr. was on the verge of suicide.Unser's career, like the family before him, was defined by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Unser's have won the world's most famous race nine-times. It took a tangle with Emerson Fittipaldi in the 1989 running of the 500 to put the pressure to win at the Brickyard on Al Jr. In 1992, on his tenth try, in a near photo finish, the young Unser crossed the yard of brick a victor. He details the dramatic last lap with Dale Jr. and co-host Mike Davis and describes the emotion that overcame him.Despite being an IROC Champion, Al only made one career NACAR Cup Series Start, in the 1993 Daytona 500. He tells Dale Jr how a phone call may have led to crashing (wink, wink) their primary car in order to roll out a faster Hendrick Motorsports #46.Growing up Unser wasn't easy. From a demanding Uncle to a Champion father, there was a lot to live up to. Al Jr. reveals how his parents divorce at a young age set the stage for an up-and-down upbringing that included racing, crime and mischief. Despite the challenges, Al Jr. just wanted to race. He admits that "racing was his escape."Despite a long fight with substance abuse, Al sits at the table a new man. Is he forgiven by all? Has he forgiven himself? These days, the 59 year old finds his redemption in his walk with faith. Unser Jr. shares how it has given him new life. Before Al Unser Jr. arrived, Dale and Mike went over a wild NASCAR weekend in Fontana. They discussed everything from flat tires, weird tow-trucks to the run-in between Hendrick teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott. Speaking of teammate tension, Dale calls in Josh Berry to the studio to talk about his California clash with JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier.Dale, Mike and producer Matthew Dillner welcomed a new member of the DJD team, Hannah Newhouse. She brings a plethora of fan questions in Ask Jr. We learn some insight into the potential Fontana reconfiguration. Of course Dale Jr. wants more Short Tracks and rallies for it, but is he sour to the idea of a Chicago Street Course race? Did you know Dale wants to be involved in the music scene? DJ Dale explains.
