GUEST: JUSTIN PETERS, evangelist and preacherIt can be confusing and even destabilizing when a pastor or Christian leader who has been orthodox in his teaching for decades says something that seems to compromise God's Word.Such occurred recently with revered pastor Alistair Begg. Begg, who is from Scotland but leads Parkside Church in Cleveland, is the Bible teacher on the popular radio ministry, Truth for Life. In an episode in September 2023, Truth for Life host Bob Lepine was interviewing pastor Begg about his new book, The Christian Manifesto, which seeks to help Christians live out Jesus' “Sermon on the Plain” (Luke 6) in a 21st century brave new world context.Begg brought up the example of what he said to a grandmother who had contacted him about whether to attend her grandson's “wedding” to a “transgender” person (the quotes being added because God defines a wedding as between one man and one woman and no one can “trans” their gender). We'll play the audio of pastor Begg's response, but in short, he suggested the grandmother attend the ceremony and buy the couple a gift with the purpose to keep the lines of engagement and gospel-witness open with her grandson. Those in theologically conservative circles collectively choked on his response while theological liberals said “this is the way”.The important question is: What is God's will for Christians with an issue like this? It is a matter of right vs wrong or an issue of personal conscience?Preacher and evangelist Justin Peters will join us this weekend and point to key passages of Scripture that help us make wise, God-honoring decisions.---------------------------Registration Open for The Overcomer CourseJune 21-24, 2024

This week, a video surfaced where well-respected pastor Alistair Begg had advised that it was acceptable for a Christian to attend a transgender/gay wedding, and also to specifically buy a gift. In this podcast I recount what happened, show there are a couple other issues with Begg's stances, perhaps at this point creating a pattern of a lack of discernment? I also include lots of resources. In his 1981 book, 'A Christian Manifesto,' Francis Schaeffer waxed eloquent on what many in our day consider too political an application of Christian faith and Biblical teaching. He talked of John Witherspoon, the first president of the college that would eventually become Princeton University, as well as a Scottish presbyterian minister, as well as a signer of the Declaration of Independence. So also, Schaeffer quoted Revelation 3:2 in relation to the American Church, and its lackadaisical indifference to good governance in the late 20th century. "Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God." In sum, writing a mere 8 years after the U.S. Supreme Court made Roe v. Wade the "law of the land" in 1973, Schaeffer demonstrated and argued persuasively that the Christian who reads their Bible, as well as Church history generally, as well as American history especially, must conclude some very important things about the proper role of good government. More specifically, a believer's position relative theirs must be informed by the conviction that God is our supreme authority, with human authority by needs be sublimated to what Scripture prescribes, commands, prohibits, and promises. That is to say, the communists have a manifesto. So, too, the humanists have theirs. The Christians, therefore, must also have a manifesto, and do, in the Word of God, and the faithful testimony of 2,000 years of saints who precede us, particularly since the Protestant Reformation, and the founding of the United States of America. The goal of government school education is to jettison any trace of Christianity from the government school classroom and, as Schaeffer said in A Christian Manifesto, ensconce “man at the center of all things and [make] him the measure of all things.” One has only to look at our publicly educated populace to see the fruit of these man-centered endeavors. Guest: Michael Craven Michael is the Vice President, Equipping and Mobilization at The Colson Center. To learn more about The Colson Center and its founder, Chuck Colson, visit their website. Colson was devoted to the development of the Christian worldview - the underlying philosophical thought process that dictates a person's actions. Your actions are controlled by your belief system - Colson understood this concept and tried to equip the church to address issues at their root cause. Colson's desire was for Christians to develop a comprehensive Biblical worldview that would engage the false ideas of this world system with the truth of God's Word. The Colson Fellows is the continued work of The Colson Center for Christian Worldview in helping equip Christians in this effort. Michael: we need to understand the difference between the “private” Christian faith where a person “invites Jesus into their life” and the public Christian faith where “Jesus invites a person into His purpose, His plans.” Michael: we have a two-fold duty - to love God and to love others. Is it possible to love others yet allow them to be destroyed by false ideologies? Michael: we can commend the truth, contend for the truth, and demonstrate the truth. How did we get here, today, on the issues of gender and sexuality? Read The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self by Dr. Carl Trueman. Michael: Christ has come into the world to set right all that has been set wrong, and He invites us into that redemptive work. Michael: there is a profoundly intellectual dimension of being a follower of Jesus Christ - having the “mind of Christ.” Michael: the book How Should We Then Live? by Francis Schaeffer opened his mind to the understanding of a much broader and more profound Christian life. Michael: our principal witness of the gospel of the Kingdom is demonstrating to a watching world this is what life looks like when it is lived under the rule and reign of Jesus Christ! Dan: Francis Schaeffer's book A Christian Manifesto was the book that brought me into this awareness of a Christian worldview Take-away: read lots of old books. Begin to have those important conversations with others. Listen. Learn. Ask questions. Explore deeply the concept of a Christian worldview - which includes the concepts of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration - and seek to understand who the King is and what He's called you to do - this is the abundant life in Christ!

Welcome to Always Ready, a production of The Christian Manifesto. In this episode, I continue my 5-part series discussing some doctrines I believe we as the church need to be especially clear about. I started with the doctrine of Scripture in the first week and today I conclude by discussing the doctrine of humanity? Who are we and what is the purpose of humanity? Join me in this episode as we explore what the Scripture says about this subject! Rather, humanity is made in the image of God. To see humanity is to see the likeness of God. The human race is a living testimony to its Creator. The lordly nature of the human race in all the creation owes to the race's God-revealing status: man's splendour is his likeness to God." (Owen Strachan, Reenchanting Humanity, p. 30) God Bless!

Being himself exhaustively revelation of God he is in all his activities dependent of God. The constitution of his mind therefore interposes no obstruction to any form of revelation that might come to it. Being itself revelation, the mind of man is made for the reception of revelation." (Cornelius Van Til, An Introduction to Systematic Theology, p. 162) "We, on the contrary, hold that God as absolute Light is back of the facts of the universe. We hold that the atom is mysterious for us, but not for God. . . Christians say that we as creatures do not need to and should not expect to comprehend anything fully. God comprehends fully and that is enough for us. God's full comprehension gives validity to our partial comprehension."
