Jason offers weekly commentary on news stories from the worlds of politics, culture, and theology from a classical Christian perspective. His commentary is seasoned with just the right amount of snark and wit (at least, he thinks it is).
God's judgment is already upon us. We have been given over to our depravity. In the name of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice we encourage our men to beat the crap out of our women. We then call it a sport and give the winners medals. #paris2024 #olympics
If you want a neutral public square, you will get the filth and garbage the Olympics gave us. You'll get fat, disgusting, hideous, grotesque demon trannies. The proper response to this is disgust. It should make us want to actually vomit to see men and women dressed up and made up in such a grotesque and hideous manner. Displays of so-called LGBTQ pride like this should make us physically ill. Today's episode is based on a speech I delivered at the classical Christian school where I teach. I specifically wrote it for the male graduates after they and the administration asked me to compose this year's senior charge. Each year at my school, a female and male faculty member delivers a roughly five-minute charge to the female and male graduates, respectively. I have received this honor twice before, in 2021 and 2023, so some of you long-time devotees of my YouTube channel and podcast may be familiar with some of this episode's content. I altered some of the original speech to better fit the YouTube and podcast context, such as removing the names of the male students and addressing young men generally, which is the aim of this episode. I will also go off script on occasion to add more explanation, argumentation, and illustration to my points. The Jason Modar Show Substack: https://jasonmodar.substack.com/
About a month ago, news of an Arizona abortion ban went viral and sent pro-aborts into a rabid frenzy. In addition to Arizona's abortion ban, Florida's 6-week abortion ban went into effect earlier this month. Former President Donald Trump weighed in on the Arizona and Florida bans, stating that both take their laws too far and need to be moved back to a more reasonable position. It appears that Bill Maher, of all people, understands the pro-life position better than most pro-lifers. Maher made shocking yet refreshingly honest comments about abortion and how elective abortions truly are murder. Today's episode evaluates #trump #billmaher their comments, and a proper understanding of abortion as murder. The Jason Modar Show Substack: https://jasonmodar.substack.com/

The old seeker-sensitive movement focused on attracting non-Christians to church, leading to weak gospel presentations, effeminate worship music, feel-good sermons, compromised cultural engagement, and little to no emphasis on robust doctrine. If we choose to find rest in sources outside of screens, and if we want to break the slavish habit of turning to our phones the moment boredom strikes, we need high-quality leisure pursuits to replace the phone, the Xbox, the iPad, and the Instagram feed. 00:00: Recap of previous episodes in this series. 04:04: Intro to today's episode. 08:05: The screen solution.
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12). It is lawful to own and operate a smartphone. It is lawful to sign up for and maintain a social media account or two or three. It is lawful to cultivate an online presence. It is lawful to purchase an Xbox Series X and play video games on it. It is lawful to own an iPad. It is lawful to google recipes, synonyms, the cast of Despicable Me, song lyrics, and the team that has won the most Super Bowls (the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, for those who care). It is lawful to fire up Google Maps and receive directions once again for a location you've visited multiple times this month (not that I do that all the time or anything). It is lawful to subscribe to thirty different podcasts. The questions at the center of today's episode hinge not on the legality of screens, but on their helpfulness, their ability to edify, and whether or not we are mastered by our devices.
Plato, if he were around, would strongly assert that the music we listen to, the television shows we watch, the movies we hold close to our hearts ought to catechize us in the true, good, and beautiful of God's creation. We ought to train our affections to love not simply that which excites us, moves us, captivates us, but that which moves us to goodness, righteousness, virtue. We ought to be able to glorify God when we sit down to watch a movie or fire up our Spotify playlist. It's a high and lofty standard, but it's a biblical one. Also, we ought to pick more fights with Swifites and do so with much vigor and resolution, lest our daughters fall into the snare of having affection for a woman whose music and lifestyle contradict the word of God at every possible turn. Philippians 4:8-9: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Have you seen the signs around your town? “Love is love” the signs read, alongside a number of other pithy one-liners designed to stir your emotions for whatever cause de jour to which Progressives have attached themselves. These signs include such misguided maxims as “women's rights are human rights,” which is little more than progressive slang for “leave me alone while I murder my baby,” and “Black Lives Matter,” which sounds noble on the surface, but really means “if you do not support the organization BLM and all it stands for, you are a hopeless racist and no better than Hitler or the Klan.” When it comes to the subject of love, Christians need biblical direction for navigating a world that exchanged the truth about love for a self-serving lie. Our world - and by "world" I mean the systems, institutions, and principalities set in opposition to God and His Word - tells us love is predicated on what you feel in your heart, and you must follow your heart. The Bible tells us our hearts are sick and untrustworthy, and that love is predicated on obedience and service. @WokePreacherClips finds another zinger! Subscribe to my podcast at https://anchor.fm/jason-modar The Jason Modar Show Substack: https://jasonmodar.substack.com/ What happens when sexual perversion spews forth from American pulpits? This occurs weekly across the nation, but not all of it comes in torrents. Some of it is covert, like when J.D. Greear said that God whispers about sexual sins such as homosexuality. I don't think God was whispering when Sodom was turned into ash nor when he declared the death penalty for adulterers and homosexuals. God speaks with a forceful and clear voice as it pertains to sexual immorality. (Kudos to Greear, though, for later repudiating that nonsense.) Some of it is overt, like revoice Christians who claim that identifying as a homosexual is fine as long as one remains celibate. Would revoice Christians advocate that a man who desires sexual intimacy with other men's wives identify as an adulterer, as long as he physically refrains from committing adultery? As a gossip, as long as he keeps his lips sealed? How about as a murderer, as long as he does not murder? As Paul articulates in 1 Corinthians 6, Christians do not identify with their sins, but with the one who redeemed them from their sins. Christians mortify their sins; they do not keep them alive and play some foolish game of chicken with evil. Finally, some of the sexual perversion flowing from our pulpits shouts, like when a so-called female “pastor” delivers a sparkle creed in imitation of a genuine creed, such as the Apostle's or Nicene. Creeds developed and delivered by learned and orthodox men articulating truth from the Bible stand the test of time and teach sound doctrine. Creeds developed and delivered by women beholden to the spirit of our age, who seek approval from our wicked culture, blaspheme God's name, send ignorant masses down the road to perdition, and teach the doctrines of demons. TGC recently hosted a debate between Jen Wilkin and Dr. Jonathan Pennington in which the question was asked "Should Christians send their children to public schools?" Wilkin takes the affirmative and I respond to her opening statement in this episode.
The book of Jeremiah recounted a moment in Israel's history when the nation had the chance to repent of its sins against God's law and receive discipline in the form of Babylon occupying their land as opposed to Babylon destroying what was left of Judah and Jerusalem. Israel ignored the prophet Jeremiah's warnings, listened to the sweet little lies of the false prophets, and endured total destruction. What can we learn about sin, repentance, and the gift of a clean conscience from this historical account?
Let Jesus find us doing sensible and human things when he returns to judge the living and the dead - praying for peaceful and quiet lives, working as unto the Lord, teaching our children diligently, smoking our pipes, changing diapers, reading Wodehouse, drinking fine wine - not frantically looking over our shoulders for Jesus like frightened evangelicals with bad theology. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The goal of government school education is to jettison any trace of Christianity from the government school classroom and, as Schaeffer said in A Christian Manifesto, ensconce “man at the center of all things and [make] him the measure of all things.” One has only to look at our publicly educated populace to see the fruit of these man-centered endeavors.
