February 2, 2024 (Originally recorded on 10/28/22): It's a running joke on this show that whenever we discuss rural internet challenges, our internet blinks out. We like to think it's because we're special, but the only specialness going on is with the Community Union Districts (CUDs) and their efforts to bring high-speed internet to their member towns. Today, Christine Hallquist, executive director of the Vermont Community Broadband Board (VCBB), updates us on rolling out broadband where none exists (yet).Theme music by Red Heart the Ticker: http://rhtt.net

In the first episode of the Montana Power Podcast, we interview Christine Hallquist, the protagonist of the 2016 documentary Denial, a film which chronicles her struggles as a trans woman embracing her gender identity and her fight to implement a smart grid and renewable energy in Vermont as the CEO of the Vermont Electric Coop. The film serves as poignant metaphor for our country's decades-long denial of climate change and our collective need to embrace hard truths in the coming years. We first spoke with Christine way back in November (a much simpler time) to discuss the concept of a smart grid. As we were taking our sweet time figuring out the intricacies of creating a podcast the CoVi-19 pandemic hit. Faced with this new reality we decided to bring Christine back on to the podcast to discuss her experiences dealing with the fallout from Hurricane Katrina, her advice to young leaders like Dan and how we can move forward from here.

Hank shares that his recent CT and PET scans show that all of his tumors are shrinking —most of which are not even measurable anymore. Hank also discusses the trend of millennials preferring socialism over capitalism. The first openly trans-person to win the gubernatorial nomination of a major political party—Christine Hallquist—has openly claimed that she does not even know what socialism is. Hank states that this is one of the problems we're experiencing today, our education system is dumbed down, people don't know about Western civilization and the brutality of socialist regimes such as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.), the People's Republic of China, or the National Socialist German Workers' Party (the Nazi Party).Hank also answers the following questions:I'm an instructor at a university and I'm being discriminated because of my Christian beliefs. What's your take on how Romans 5:12-21 connects Adam and Christ? How do we decide what is kept from the Old Testament law?Was the Old Testament law the path to salvation prior to the arrival of Christ? Can you give me information on the contrasts between the Quran and the Bible?Does “Son of God” and “Son of Man” both imply divinity?

About last night: the results of Tuesday's primaries are being called a groundbreaking night for women and diversity, but will they result in substantive policy output? Christine Hallquist became the first transgender woman to win the gubernatorial race in Vermont; in Minnesota, Ilhan Omaris is poised to be one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress; Jahana Hayes won the Democratic primary for Connecticut's Fifth Congressional District. Will the "Blue Wave" make some headway, or will the tides turn? The TeleSur English Facebook page was republished on the social media website this morning after it was taken down Monday evening without any substantive explanation. Supporters and media outlets such as Sputnik News and this program specifically expressed solidarity with TeleSur after the unexplained and brief removal. How does Facebook choose whom they censor, and is there a lack of transparency?A new grand jury report provides disturbing details of sexual abuse by Pennsylvania Catholic priests of over 1,000 children. The claims date back to 1947 and involve over 300 priests and six dioceses. Many of the priests still serve in churches. The real number of victims could be higher in the thousands. The deeper we dig, the worse things become, and this is why the investigation should have never been left up to the Church to manage in the first place. We'll talk to a survivor about solutions.A GoFundMe page for fired FBI agent Peter Strzok raises $325,000 in one day. How is it that an agency that worked to undermine democracy in America with its COINTELPRO program has now become so beloved by the left? The rise of Donald Trump should be no surprise to anyone watching history. We'll also analyze the parallels between the rise of the ultra-right in the 1930s and today. The first factor: major economic depression and social dislocation undermined people's confidence in democracy and led them to look for alternatives. Today, the overall US economy has been performing well, but levels of inequality continue to rise. The second factor was fear of communism, which led many leading intellectuals to embrace fascism as a bulwark against Bolshevism and as the lesser of two evils. Few people worry about the communist threat today, yet fear of communism has been replaced by fear of globalists and elite technocrats who supposedly seek to undermine and control the lives of ordinary Americans. The third factor was the rise of Nazi Germany as an economic and military powerhouse, today reflected most clearly in fears over the rise of China. Democrats in the state of Vermont had one heck of a gubernatorial primary and the winner was the nation's first transgender candidate for governor, Christine Hallquist. After voting back in June for an amendment to the Missouri Democratic Party platform that proclaimed their acceptance of pro-life members, the party changed their mind and voted the amendment out this past Saturday. The DNC has released its first statement regarding the recent abuse allegations made against Keith Ellison, conveniently waiting till just hours before polls closed in Minnesota's primary elections. London, a city often praised by the Left for its multiculturalism and tolerance, is where about 75% of the U.K.’s 15 per week acid attacks are taking place. On The Gist, autocracy isn’t always bad for an economy. But as Turkey shows, idiocy definitely is. Reality television has a reputation for uninhibited narcissism, ruthless competition, and terrible business pitches. But when Jon Murray created The Real World in 1992, he worked to make something complex and innovative, not a circus of humanity’s basest instincts. And in A&E’s Born This Way, Murray follows the lives of individuals with Down syndrome in Los Angeles, sharing their laughter and tears, their beautiful community, and how they strive to be just like everyone else. In the Spiel, Christine Hallquist makes history. Can she do it again in November? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

London, a city often praised by the Left for its multiculturalism and tolerance, is where about 75% of the U.K.'s 15 per week acid attacks are taking place. In the second hour, I'll be joined by Dan Perkins to talk about the judge who has released members of the New Mexico Islamic terror cell out on bail. Don't forget about the Edwards Notebook and the Veteran's Tip of the Day! All of this and more as time allows. Listen live, join the chatroom, be a part of the show.
