ATFT is back! On the thirty- ninth episode of All the Film Things, I talked with Black female filmmaker Shanita Brown! Shanita Brown is an award- winning Daytona-based filmmaker who has written and directed nine films so far. She has had quite a journey getting to where she is today. For one thing, she initially pursued a career in law with her passion being to help people. Even though she earned both Bachelor's and Masters law degrees, Shanita's life took a different route, and she found herself helping people through film instead. Before making her own films, Shanita worked in various roles on and off camera for ten years. In 2022, she released her first short film “Mine Since Birth” which had a successful film festival run. Ever since, she has continued to make her own short films, star and/ or work behind the scenes. In March 2023, Shanita was one of eight women honored at the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum in New Smyrna Beach for their reception centered on "Young Women to Set Your Sight On". She is also the Content Manager for the streaming service Gen X TV and was recently named the manager of the Cinematique theater in Daytona. Shanita's latest project is the drama short, “Tha Bone Collecta”. The short, inspired by real life, is focused around a group of close, longtime friends. One friend in the group, Shanita's character Laura Queen, learns the secrets of individuals within the group and causes drama by revealing it to other friends, making her “the bone collecta”. For this project, Shanita directed, wrote, starred in, and produced the film. While the film stars a great ensemble of women, this is the first time Shanita has starred as the lead in one of her own films! “Tha Bone Collecta” has just begun its film festival run and is expected to release on Gen X TV once the festival run is finished! The film will be having a premiere on Saturday, April 12 at the AMC Altamonte near Orlando, Florida, so if you're in the area or want to make the trip, go to the premiere! From our first conversation, I gained so much from talking with her. Aside from one, admittedly, hilarious prank she pulled on me, she was so kind and I always looked forward to coming to set just to converse with her. We instantly connected and Shanita is without a doubt one of the best people I've been fortunate enough to meet on set. I had been wanting to interview her ever since I met her but I waited until the very end of the shoot to ask her which made for a funny moment at dinner after word got out about my podcast. There were a few technical difficulties in regard to the audio so I apologize that it is not the same quality as usual. This episode was recorded on March 20, 2025. In this episode, Shanita shares her journey from initially aspiring to become a lawyer to working in the industry to making her own films. Filmmakers will especially benefit from Shanita's stories and mindset navigating the industry. Shanita also talks about her love of Halle Berry, having no fear when it comes to the horror genre, working with Brad Pitt on his new film F1, and her biggest- and perhaps surprising- career goal. La crew de Portal lleva unos años revitalizando la, de ya de por sí prolífica, escena asturiana, marcándose unas parties muy serias con artistas del subterráneo ibérico y otros de corte internacional. Salas como Lanna o Lata de Zinc han sido su centro de operaciones en Gijón y Oviedo. Además han conseguido exportar su visión de la electrónica a Madrid, y aquí, Balheim ha pasado por salas como Siroco, Costello, Ballesta o Stardust, bien programando o bien como invitado haciendo del Techno y el Electro su bandera. Pero este chico no es solo esto, tiene una pasión desmedida por el HipHop, el Funk, House o la música Disco y es el creador de la fiesta Cinematique donde da salida a toda esta inquietud musical. Sin duda, estamos ante uno de los grandes valores a tener en cuenta desde ya y al que no debemos perder de vista. PREMIERE The latest release from Antrim’s Or Two Strangers imprint welcomes Golan Zocher back to the label for his debut EP ‘Te Para Tres’. The Colombian born, Israel based artist made his debut on the Argentinean imprint in March of this year with a well received remix of ‘Epiphany in the Woods’ by Sebastian Sellares. Also laying claim to releases on Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings and Guy Mantzur’s Plattenbank Records, Golan now returns to Or Two Strangers for his first EP alongside remixes from Berni Turletti and Sounom & Sagou. Beginning with the title selection Golan shows just how boundless his studio repertoire can be. While some of the Colombian’s productions carry more of a peak time flair, ‘Te’ finds that creative place between deep and progressive house. It’s well contoured low end carries a large presence while waves of percussion and a quirky lead theme advance the narrative. As momentum builds, smooth chord changes and a delicate arp play off each other for moments of emotional charm. Free flowing into the break, timely modulation adds drama and character before melting down to a stripped piano laced section that is sure to capture the heart of your dance floor. The companion piece ‘Para Tres’ ups the energy with a driving, free flowing narrative. A rolling low end sets the track in motion as buoyant themes and lively rhythmic concepts move through the framework. Rising atmospherics add depth and intrigue as drifting harmonics and a poignant melodic theme lead into the main break. Impassioned and hopeful, the one minute interlude sits as the emotional core of the piece, slowly saturating your senses before a timely drop resets the framework for a heartfelt finale. The first interpretation of ‘Te’ is provided by Berni Turletti who returns to the label following his ‘Surround Us With Love’ single from July of last year. Hailing from Cordoba, the Argentinean artist is fresh off a contribution to Nick Warren’s ‘The Soundgarden Miami Sampler’. Now presenting his first remix of 2019, Berni puts a dubbier twist on ‘Te’ with great results. Backed by a warm, full groove the Argentine’s detailed drum work and subtle harmonic shifts quickly appease the senses. Metallic designs add a flair for the dramatic while emotive chord changes and a tranquil storyboard set up the main break perfectly. The nearly two minute interlude is a feast for the senses, as it ebbs and flows through cinematic soundscapes before a flurry of drums sparks a euphoric build and exhilarating finale. The second interpretation of ‘Te’ is provided by Sounom & Sagou who make their label debut here. The Dutch duo have found a home on Paul Hazendonk’s Manual label family having appeared on Cinematique, MNL and Manual Music. Now fresh off an EP for the UK’s Flemcy Music, Sounom & Sagou debut on Or Two Strangers with a heady interpretation of ‘Te’. Engaging from the outset, it’s warm, tightly knit framework is crafted to perfection with spacey effects and ethereal melodies converging for the ultimate sonic story. Fluid bass stabs carve out a free flowing groove while buzzing synths and haunting overlays lift the mood higher as the main break commences. Perfectly timed, the track’s centrepiece is dramatic and direct, dissipating to a gentle sonic sizzle as the groove drops for one final rush. A brilliant remix from Sounom & Sagou which rounds out another must have release from Antrim’s Or Two Strangers imprint.
