I founded The Garter Girl based on my own personal core values of family first, love for tradition and being true to yourself. To know me is to love these things about me. We have a motto around here and it is something that my dad always taught me, "Never be afraid to fail." It is a little odd that I left politics (I always thought I'd be the next CJ Cregg.) and now find myself making wedding garters, but I've never backed down from a challenge. When I couldn't find Brooke her most perfectest garter, I was not only going to find one worthy of her, but I was going to start a company just to make sure that no one else has this problem ever again! This, in a nutshell, is not just the story of my business, it is the story of me. I have a major soft spot for anything hand made, but my true obsession is with personal style - mine and yours! I don't believe fashion is meant to be left in a box in the closet, which is why I'm typically the most over-dressed mom at the park. Style has always been the heart of this business. It isn't a tagline or some gimmick that I made up to sound cool. I really, truly believe a pretty and stylish wedding garter just doesn't have to be that hard. There is no reason to settle for something that isn't amazing for your wedding - or in your life. Ever. I grew up in a small, rural town in Pennsylvania. But, now I love living in the city surrounded by lots of people and being able to walk everywhere. I'm always ready to host, the more spontaneous the better. (I hope that you'll get in touch if you ever find yourself in Washington, DC.) Before wedding garters and the three little kiddos that you'll see below, I worked in politics and media. I worked on Capitol Hill for a member of Congress, and in the White House's administration as the spokeswoman for the National Nuclear Security Administration. (Yikes, I know!) I also founded, edited and sold the DC area's biggest wedding blog, United With Love. My mom always says that what is in my heart, comes right out of my mouth. I don't have a "poker face" at all, you can tell exactly what I'm thinking just by looking at my face. I hope you enjoy a glimpse into my life and my loves below.
Here is a rerun for you from November 2016! Original Show notes: Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We decided to release this early so you can listen in airports or while making pies. We start off by inducting Lucille Bluth and CJ Cregg into our little Hall of Fame in the segment “Strength of Character”. The Main Event: We have experienced (or will experience) so much amazing culture this November! We take a deep dive into Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Arrival, as well as chat about Gilmore Girls, The Grand Tour, and The Crown. Plus, we continue our Pop Culture Traditions from last year and mention more seasonal entertainment including episodes of The West Wing and New Girl, and the seasonal podcast Til Death Do Us Blart. It's finally here... episode 2 of our West Wing Recast! This week we resume our recasting of the iconic early 2000's TV drama. This week we are recasting the charming Sam Seaborn, the witty and irritable Josh Lyman, the lovable and quick-witted Donna Moss, and the gloomy yet dedicated Toby Ziegler! Last episode we recast President Bartlett, Leo McGarry, CJ Cregg, and Charlie Young. Enjoy the show! Next episode we have a NEW format we will be trying out. Tune in for that!
The West Wing was an iconic ensemble television show that ran for 7 years on NBC from 1999 to 2006. It's also a personal favorite for Leah, Chris, Mike, and Nikki. Between the amazing cast, the razor sharp writing of Aaron Sorkin, or the modern day politics, the show has become a favorite of people all over the US.Over the next 2 episodes we are recasting the main cast from the first 4 seasons of The West Wing. This episode we are sitting down to recast President Josiah Bartletts, Leo McGarry, CJ Cregg, and Charlie Young. In 2 weeks we will release episode 2 of the show where we recast Sam Seaborn, Josh Lyman, Donna Moss, and the irritable Toby Ziegler. These are 2 of my FAVORITE episodes we've ever recorded because the casting directors are all really passionate fans of the show and have their own unique visions for the cast.Enjoying Recast That? Toby Ball takes a break from refilling the Clorox shot-ski to talk about HBO's ripped-from-the-2004-headlines docudrama, Bad Education, in which Wolverine and CJ Cregg defraud the Roslyn school district -- and Toby and I really liked it, but did it need a stronger or more singular point of view? Should it have embraced its All The President's American Vandals nature more openly? And what is Janney's accent doing? Later, we went back to 2015 for a rather un-Frontline-y Frontline that tried to dig into the murders of Vietnamese journalists by an anti-Communist kill squad. Why does "Terror In Little Saigon" feel more like a Cold Justice than a Frontline? What should the episode have investigated instead? And how does Young Sheldon's grandfather figure into all of this? Drop off thirty grand worth of dry cleaning and join us for The Blotter Presents, Episode 141. SHOW NOTES The NY Mag deep dive by who else? PART 1: Join Cara and me as we sit down and flail (chat) about the second season of The West Wing. Soooooo much West Wing Season 2 content to discuss that we had to break this one into two episodes! Part 1 covers mostly everything up until the middle of season 2 of The West Wing. Don't worry: there's plenty of Allison Janney goodness in both parts!
PART 2: Join Cara and me as we sit down and flail (chat) about the second season of The West Wing. Soooooo much West Wing Season 2 content to discuss that we had to break this one into two episodes. Part 2 covers the back-half of season 2 and blends into some of season 3. Even more Allison Janney content in this one!!
Join Kristin (@KristinSusanL) and I as we chat about how much we love Allison Janney as the legend herself, C.J. Cregg, the inspiration of generation (points if you get the reference)! This episode is mostly specific to C.J. in Season 1, but there are some light spoilers for future seasons, so beware!
On today's Round 2, two very different roles for Allison Janney: On “The West Wing” episode "Third-Day Story," she's competent press secretary CJ Cregg, and her life is about to change in a big way. And in the 1996 movie “Big Night,” she's a competent florist who gets to eat a lot of really delicious-looking food. Next week, we'll watch the “West Wing” episode "Liftoff" and return to “The Good Place” for "The Book of Dougs." For quotes, archives, and more, visit us at http://parentingroundabout.com.
This week we explore why we're glad not to live in Iceland, stupid lawsuits, and places that actually need a name change. We cheer "good job" to CJ Cregg, Jordan Peele, and some anonymous lady... plus the strangeness that is Donald Glover. Oh and by the way #wewereright, #yoyoyoyo, #fortheculture, yup, all of that! Tune in NOW! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
It's the CJ Cregg show, and we're not mad about it. We've got brilliant (even non-verbal) scenes with both CJ & Danny and CJ & Toby; if this episode doesn't pull at your heart strings, we don't know what will. Also, it's our second-to-last episode, and we're feeling emotional about it. Join us to commiserate, as we recap, "Institutional Memory."
Jason had the opportunity to sit down for a conversation with Mike McCurry, the White House Press Secretary during the Clinton administration. Their conversation covers a range of topics including CJ Cregg on the West Wing, the cynicism that comes with working for the government, fighting Newt Gingrich, the absence of faith in politics, and thoughts on A Way Forward for the United Methodist Church.
