We present our review of The West Wing (Season 5)!The fifth season of the American political drama television series The West Wing aired in the United States on NBC from September 24, 2003, to May 19, 2004, and consisted of 22 episodes. This was the first season with executive producer John Wells as showrunner after series creator Aaron Sorkin departed the series at the end of the previous season. The fifth season had star billing for nine major roles, all of which were filled by returning main cast members from the fourth season. The cast was credited in alphabetical order except for Martin Sheen, who was listed last. Stockard Channing is only credited for the episodes in which she appears. The fifth season opens with First Daughter Zoey Bartlet being rescued from her abductors. President Bartlet takes the presidency back from acting president Walken, but is forced back into a level of powerlessness. He comes to terms with the actions that led to his daughter's kidnapping, a new Republican Speaker of the House (Walken has had to resign in order to assume the presidency) who forces Bartlet into several decisions he does not want to make, including the nomination of an unimpressive Democrat, "Bingo Bob" Russell, for vice president. The conflict with the new Speaker comes to a head in "Shutdown", when the Speaker tries to force the President into cutting federal spending more than had been agreed to and Bartlet refuses, forcing the federal government into a shutdown. Bartlet regains some of his power, cutting a deal to get a liberal Chief Justice, and season five ends with a bombing in Gaza leading Bartlet to push for Israeli peace talks and Josh to grow closer to Donna after she is critically wounded. The fifth season begins toward the end of Bartlet's first year of his second term (fifth year overall) in office. By the end of the season, over a year has elapsed.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

We present our The West Wing (Season 4) review! The fourth season of the American political drama television series The West Wing aired in the United States on NBC from September 25, 2002 to May 14, 2003 and consisted of 23 episodes. The fourth season covers the end of Bartlet's fourth year of his first term in office through the beginning of the first year of his second term. The season begins with the continuation of the election storyline with the president touring the nation and his staff trying to firm up presidential debates. The storyline ends in a clear victory for Bartlet less than halfway through the season in "Election Night". Other plots include Sam leaving the White House to run in a special election in California, the news of the Abdul Shareef assassination resonating both inside and outside the U.S., Will Bailey taking Sam's position after coming over from the California campaign's staff, the President and his staff facing the reality of an overseas genocide, and Vice President Hoynes being forced to resign after a sex scandal is uncovered. The fourth season ends with Bartlet's youngest daughter being taken hostage. Bartlet ends up invoking the 25th Amendment in the final episode, "Twenty Five." Since no one had been nominated to replace Hoynes, the presidency passes to the iron-willed conservative Republican Speaker of the House, Glen Allen Walken.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

We present our The West Wing Season 2 Review! The second season of the American political drama television series The West Wing aired in the United States on NBC from October 4, 2000 to May 16, 2001 and consisted of 22 episodes. The second season made frequent use of flashbacks, revealing Bartlet's campaign for the presidency in the period prior to events covered in the first season. The first two episodes, "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Part I" and "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Part II", showed how many of the central characters were introduced to Josiah Bartlet, his campaign for the presidential nomination, and his election. Aaron Sorkin originally planned to have such flashbacks as a major part of the entire season, but budget and logistical demands prevented this. The second season had star billing for eight major roles. Seven of these were filled by returning main cast members from the first season, while Moira Kelly departed the cast at the end of the previous season. Rob Lowe once again receives star billing, while Martin Sheen receives the "and" credit for his role as President Josiah Bartlet. The rest of the ensemble, now including previously recurring Janel Moloney, are credited alphabetically.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/raduli...FB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1...

We meet our next guest, Joanne Bartlet outback the hotel under the cute little gazebo. Joanne works as an accountant at an animal refuge league for greater Portland Maine and she's a true Mainer. She recently moved back into her childhood home to help her mom age in place.  She's an intrepid traveler and claims to be an old soul, it's easy to believe, she's confident, strong articulate, and she is involved and it's truly a fun session. She ends up with lots of forgiveness questions, and almost hysterically, the same question back to back, and it really centers around her relationship with her brother, who she's lost communications with over the years through different disagreements in missteps and miscommunications they've come to a place where they're not talking. And the jar kind of calls her out about forgiveness early in the conversation. It's a powerful moment and a reminder to us all to not let the little things add up to become something big that keeps us from loved ones forgive early and often say I love you and let's keep the communication going, even if it's not easy. For behind the scenes content of the making of The Jar, meet the guests, see some footage of unreleased podcast episodes and more visit : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgTo be a guest on the show email us at thejarguest@gmail.com or visit our webpage : https://www.thejar.live/Follow The Jar on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Follow The Jar on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarDisclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. Nick Warren - StoryHacker

Business storytelling techniques: 2/30 FLOW Season 1, Episode 2 of The West Wing is titled "Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc". After this, therefore because of this. The episode opens with President Bartlet complaining that his staff are falling for this logical fallacy – assuming that one thing led to another just because it came first... Humans seem especially vulnerable to this mistake: She's angry because I said that thing. The vaccine caused my illness. I scored because of my lucky shirt. The critical insight for storytellers and persuaders is this... We are drawn to simple stories powered by cause and effect. Good stories FLOW. This > led to this > led to this > led to this. When we leverage causation, we create persuasive chains that are hard to resist. Here's Yoda: “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” See how that feels? Powerful, right? Whether we are building an argument or a story, we want to build it brick upon brick. It's not just better persuasion, it's better thinking. In 2004, Jeff Bezos banned PowerPoint... "... The reason writing a 4 page memo is harder than 'writing' a 20 page powerpoint is because the narrative structure of a good memo forces better thought and better understanding of what's more important than what, and how things are related." This is Business Storytelling Technique 3/30. Follow me to get the daily series. Challenge: Try a chain of persuasion for your business. Here's my example. Why does proto-feminist Hrishi keep forgetting about Mandy? We discuss Josh's strict adherence to proper English and how Sorkin gets us to care so much about a minor character. Big Block of Cheese – Hrishi or Josh: who has the right personality type for being allowed to launch nuclear weapons? Jose tries to justify having an occasional potty mouth and it somehow turns into a discussion about racial/cultural identity. It's a tale as old as time: girl meets furry, gets stuck in a castle, develops Stockholm syndrome, and then becomes queen? Erin and Brennan are asking the real questions around Disney's 2017 remake of Beauty and the Beast: why hire a Scottish Ewan McGregor to play a French candelabra, why is the magic mirror so large but the mirror SO small, and is President Bartlet hidden in the West Wing? We gush again about the brilliant performance of Luke Evans while praising the on screen chemistry of Kemma Watson, I mean Emin Wine, I mean Kwevin Klatson. . . nevermind. Sign-up for my free 20 day devotional, The Word Before Work Foundations, at http://TWBWFoundations.com -- Series: 7 Ways God Worked "In the Beginning" Devotional: 2 of 7 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. (Genesis 1:3-4) I finished writing my last book on a Friday and started writing the next one the following Monday. I took almost no time to stop, see, and appreciate the goodness of what I had finished before moving on to the next thing. What a contrast to the way we see God working in today's passage. In the first chapter of Genesis, we are told seven times that God “saw that [his work] was good.” The language here suggests more than just a passing glance. You can envision God taking a step back, breathing deeply, and exhaling in delight as he gazed and marveled at the good work of his hands. He didn't rush on to the next thing. He took the time to see and delight in what he had already made. Again, what a contrast to the way we work today. You and I are always looking towards the next thing—the next deal, the next promotion, the next project, the next phase of parenting. In the words of President Bartlet, we are always asking, “What's next?” Some of this is good and unavoidable. God made us in his creative image, and thus, we will always have some level of vision for what's around the corner for our work and lives. But if we want to work as God works, we will ask “What's good?” before we ask “What's next?” We will pause long enough to celebrate what God has already done through our work before we move on to the next thing. So before you ask “What's next?” on your to-do list or calendar today, take a moment to ask “What's good?” Reflect on what God has been doing in and through your work as of late and praise him for his good gifts of grace!

Our Purple Principle series on Hollywood Presidents would not be complete without a stroll back in time through that show of all Potus shows, The West Wing, featuring Martin Sheen as President Josiah “Jed” Bartlet. We speak with award-winning West Wing writer, Paul Redford, a former Shakespearean actor turned screenscribe, who recalls: “West Wing came along and...filled a need that nobody knew was there… a need to believe again.”  Canadian writer and cultural critic, Luke Savage, thinks the show gave American Democrats a little too much of what they wanted to believe. One of his prominent critiques is entitled, “How Liberals Fell in Love with The West Wing,” describing it as “a series of glittering illusions to be abandoned.” In our TPP interview, Savage points to the smugness of the show, as well as naivete regarding possibilities for bipartisanship, as two of the more obvious weaknesses.  Redford concurs that The West Wing was created at a less partisan political time. In fact, following that show, he went on to write for two TV series deploying fictional independent Presidents to reach a wider audience -- Madam Secretary starring Téa Leoni and Designated Survivor starring Kiefer Sutherland. And regarding Designated Survivor, Redford agrees with the show creator David Guggenheim (TPP Season 2, Episode 12) that this was an effort to make an anti-West Wing, with not a lofty Bartlet but an everyman figure as President.  Our third guest, the Greece-based media scholar Dr. Betty Kaklamanidou, sees not so much distinction as similarity among The West Wing, Madam Secretary, Designated Survivor and Commander in Chief (starring Geena Davis as independent President Mackenzie Allen), whose creator, Rod Lurie, was featured in TPP Season 2, Episode 11, the kick-off to this series.   “It doesn't matter whether they are Independents, Republicans or Democrats,” observes Dr. Kaklamanidou, co-editor of Politics and Politicians in Contemporary US Television. “They are idealists. They want to do the right thing, irrespective of political games.” Is the lofty idealism of West Wing a relic of the past or part of a cycle coming back into play? Dr. Kaklamanidou feels political idealism will always find new forms and variations. But looking back over two decades of polarizing tumult, Paul Redford is not sure a West Wing reboot could sustain a large audience today. Still, he argues that it's not for political leanings but dramatic tension that West Wing has resonated so widely for so long. And he credits the show's creator and principal writer, Aaron Sorkin, for this enduring appeal.   “Honestly, I think it ultimately came from Aaron and his vision for the show, because his constant demand from the other writers was, I need an argument,“ Redford recalls of Sorkin. “[G]ive me a good argument, I can write a scene.“ Tune in for a good argument among three uniquely informed guests on the iconic TV series The West Wing, and other TV Potuses, in: Hollywood Presidents for a Partisan Nation (Part 4): Romance, Grandeur & Smugness on The West Wing. The Josiah Bartlet megafan shares her reactions and Esther Debbie Downers it with a dose of realism. Eventually, the Bagels discuss Israeli TV shows like "Tehran" on AppleTV+ and the forthcoming "Valley of Tears" on HBO; the prospect of Wonder Woman and representation of Israel in Hollywood; Gal Gadot as Cleopatra launches a representation conversation; and why "Shtisel" gets all the love and "Fauda" gets criticised. Plus, our question of the week: "Are you a TV binger, or a series savorer?". Grab a bag of Twizzlers (or Red Vines, if you must) as the co-hosts revisit the value of weekly episode releases over streaming a series in one sitting.   Helpful Links: Vanity Fair: Gal Gadot on Wonder Woman 1984, Feminism   Follow Erin, Esther and The Bagel Report on Twitter!

NBC's 1999-2006 political drama features Martin Sheen as President Bartlet, Stockard Channing as the First Lady, and an entire administration full of people we wish were really in government.
