Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. Erica Schultz, comic writer extraordinaire, joins our host Lodro Rinzler for the Season 2 finale of X-Men Horoscopes! We dive into the classic X-Men issue 105 where Jean finally figures out she's a giant cosmic bird. Eric the Red (FML that I have to explain Eric the Red) has manipulated the former herald of Galactus Firelord - basically if a matchstick took the form of a person - into taking out the X-Men and only Jean can sort of stop them! We also get a sneak peek at Erica's new series: Laura Kinney the Wolverine, hitting stands this December. Also in this episode: Who is the alien Captain America? What cause will Erica flip her own desk over to defend? Why the new Wolverine series has an all-female creative team Firelord is just a giant matchstick who won't stop talking about the last job he was fired from Eric the Red is the reason Lodro drinks Erica yells at Lodro about his categorization of New York City neighborhoods Jean has the most expensive apartment in NYC and now her security deposit is gone Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum fight on panel Cyclops sees Jean's new power and is torn between "this is sexy" and "I'm terrified" and has lived there ever since Misty Knight gets a bad break in the roommate department This and much more in the finale of Season 2 for X-Men Horoscopes! We will be back in a few weeks with a power-packed Season 3 and, as always, thanks for listening! Erica Schultz is a Ringo Award nominated comic book writer (and editor and instructor and letterer). She is the creator of Forgotten Home (nominated for five Ringo Awards in 2020, published by comiXology Originals and Dark Horse Comics), the co-creator of Bylines in Blood, the co-creator of Strange Tails with Claire Connelly (nominated for a Ringo Award in 2020), co-creator of M3, and creator of Twelve Devils Dancing from Action Lab Danger Zone. Erica has written everything. For Marvel she's written Moon Knight, Black Widow, Daredevil, Hallows' Eve, Beta Ray Bill, Wolverine, Spider-Man, X-23, and Misty Knight. For Image: Spawn: Rat City and The Deadliest Bouquet. You can follow her on Instagram and Twitter (she calls it Twitter still, you might call it X) and check out her very cool stuff here. The trial of Bruce Lehrmann for the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins never reached a verdict – and Lehrmann still strenuously maintains his innocence. When the most high profile sexual assault trial in Australia was called off, and any hope of a retrial abandoned, there was one question: how did it come to this? The actions of one juror might have led to the mistrial, but there was more to the story: concerns about how the media covered the trial were followed by explosive allegations against the ACT police and how they handled the case. Now, an inquiry is trying to get to the bottom of how justice failed to reach a verdict. Today, contributor to The Saturday Paper Claire Connelly, on the first week of stunning revelations, backflips and whether this inquiry can deliver answers. Right now, our grocery bills are soaring, with some common vegetables more than doubling in price. Part of the reason is that there's a nation-wide shortage of leafy greens, but there's also a bigger force at play: inflation. Inflation is now at a higher level than anytime since 1990 and the cure for inflation could involve more economic pain for many of us. Today, journalist and Policy Fellow at the University of Sydney Sydney's Policy Lab, Claire Connelly on why prices are rising and the risk that poses to the economy. All the arguments for and against the UBI or Federal Job guarantee are covered in this conversation from 2017.
This week we’re bringing back a conversation Steve had with journalist and researcher Claire Connelly in 2017, which explores all the best arguments in the job guarantee vs universal basic income debate. Claire says that the American nostalgia for a more prosperous era supports the case for government involvement in employment even beyond the New Deal. The fact that the US had almost full employment during WW2 is largely responsible for much of the prosperity in the postwar era. Even today, it could be said that the military is the closest we have to an employer of last resort. Conservatives object to government involvement in the economy - but Claire points out all the ways in which the government subsidizes large corporations and enriches the lives of those at the top. Since the government creates the currency, a job guarantee wouldn’t require a tax increase that would decrease anyone’s stash of money. We’ve given the government permission to abdicate its responsibility for employment and both sides of the political aisle are comfortable with the idea. That being the case, Claire asks why not dissolve government entirely and elect the CEO of Goldman Sachs? The implications are directly responsible for the situation in the Eurozone. The EU, IMF, and World Bank have more power than the national governments themselves. Most of those countries have not benefited from the arrangement. Even the Greek bailout did more for the German banks more than the people of Greece. One of our objections to a UBI is the fact that it doesn’t set a price anchor or a wage floor. It simply serves to funnel more money to these same corporations and rentiers. Claire talks about the rentier economy being one of the largest detriments to economic growth. The level of personal debt in the developed nations implies that income derived from a UBI will simply go to the rentiers - in the form of mortgages, rents, payment of credit card or other debts - doing little to improve the lives of the citizens and possibly making it worse by effecting a rise in prices. Elsewhere in this episode, Steve and Claire discuss a range of topics from Georgian land value taxes to autism, all within the context of the jobs and income. Anyone who gets involved in arguments about the UBI and FJG will want to listen.
I'm joined by Claire Connelly to discuss her new upcoming projects including the 250+ page original graphic novel "Captain Lost." Works: Website, Comixology Facebook, Instagram, Twitter Intro/Outro Music: Tigerblood Jewel. "Let's Go Go Go."

Is there an artist in your family? Is there more than one? What do you think the odds are of that? Claire and Paige Connelly are sisters, twin sisters in fact. Although both have share a passion for art and followed the same academic path, each developed a unique style of art of their own. Claire Connelly illustrates comic books, video games and storyboards. She has written, drawn and published Black Eyes and Down With the Ship among other comics. Claire has collaborated with writer Eric Grissom on Animals and Erica Schultz (Erica credits include Dynamite Entertainment’s Charmed, Swords of Sorrow, Xena: Warrior Princess) on The Unauthorized Biography of Winston Churchill and Cheese: A Love Story. Claire is a video game aficionado and has a penchant for old video games. Paige Connelly is an illustrator who specializes in graphite drawings, digital illustrations and character designs. Paige’s credits include contributions to the RPG game magazine Wayfinder and in the gallery of Dungeon and Dragon’s Against the Slave Lord book reprint. In addition, each year she publishes her sketchbook Songs of Fablewood. What was art school like for them and how did it prepare them for life? Without a large publisher gig, how do they promote their work? And how do they use social media? How do they measure the success of their work? What is one series they just started reading and highly recommend? Hint: it that just wrapped up after 40 years and was featured on NPR! What comic project is Claire planning with Eric Schultz for 2019 involving lobsters? And why did Claire begin working with graphite? Plus: Claire ands Paige answer the fun questions ask including a few new ones they had lots of fun answering. Will Osman Faruqi and the ABC's mysterious new Buzzfeed-style "vertical" spark more inquiries by senate estimates? The story that sparked Fairfax's big Anzac retraction treads the line of misplaced facts and myth-making. And Labor senator Kimberley Kitching may have hitched up some Russian twitterbot followers but exactly whose stalking horses are they? Alex McKinnon (Saturday Paper), Sam Langford (Junkee) and Claire Connelly (independent) turn these issues over on a panel hosted by Tom Allinson. Fourth Estate is produced by 2SER 107.3 in Sydney and is broadcast across the Community Radio Network in Australia.

Hilarity and vulgarity ensue when I interviewed CLAIRE CONNELLY and ERICA SCHULTZ about their comic book, THE UNAUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY OF WINSTON CHURCHILL: A DOCUMENTARY. It’s a trippy time traveling story you’ll want to read. There are dinosaurs. That might not be your thing but trust me - these are wickedly creative versions of dinosaurs. Not to mention, the main character, dear ol’ Winston Churchill, is a hoot.
