Bob Quinn is an organic farmer and researcher with a Ph.D. in plant biochemistry. Bob introduced and trademarked Kamut, an ancient wheat variety with anti-inflammatory properties. His research highlights its higher nutrient density and benefits for those with wheat sensitivities.  Bob grew up on a wheat farm in Montana, and transitioned to organic farming in the 1980s. After selling his businesses, he founded the Quinn Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to regenerative organic research and food as medicine. His work focuses on soil health, nutrient density, and the connection between food and human health. In this episode, John and Bob discuss: How nutrient-dense food can promote health and prevent disease How Kamut wheat has been shown to reduce inflammation compared to modern wheat The importance of revitalizing soil microbiomes to improve gut health Why strengthening regional food systems enhances food security and resilience The industrial food processing of vegetable oils, and their impact on health and nutrition Additional Resources To learn more about Bob Quinn and the work of the Quinn Institute, please visit: https://quinninstitute.org/ About John Kempf John Kempf is the founder of Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA). A top expert in biological and regenerative farming, John founded AEA in 2006 to help fellow farmers by providing the education, tools, and strategies that will have a global effect on the food supply and those who grow it. Through intense study and the knowledge gleaned from many industry leaders, John is building a comprehensive systems-based approach to plant nutrition – a system solidly based on the sciences of plant physiology, mineral nutrition, and soil microbiology. Support For This Show & Helping You Grow Since 2006, AEA has been on a mission to help growers become more resilient, efficient, and profitable with regenerative agriculture.  AEA works directly with growers to apply its unique line of liquid mineral crop nutrition products and biological inoculants. Informed by cutting-edge plant and soil data-gathering techniques, AEA's science-based programs empower farm operations to meet the crop quality markers that matter the most. AEA has created real and lasting change on millions of acres with its products and data-driven services by working hand-in-hand with growers to produce healthier soil, stronger crops, and higher profits. Beyond working on the ground with growers, AEA leads in regenerative agriculture media and education, producing and distributing the popular and highly-regarded Regenerative Agriculture Podcast, inspiring webinars, and other educational content that serve as go-to resources for growers worldwide. Conversations From the Pointed Firs

This month on Conversations from the Pointed Firs, host Peter Neill engages in a fascinating conversation with Ian Ludders, author of "Didn't Do Much but a Little of Everything", a micro-history of Dalton Raynes who's workday diary from his 19th year, in 1897, serves as the book's center, and of Bob Quinn who worked the land up into the 2000s. Ian Ludders, who annotated the text, worked as a day laborer with Bob Quinn before he moved to the island to work and fish with Bob and to manage Eagle for the Quinn family. "Didn't Do Much but a Little of Everything" encapsulates life on the small community of Eagle Island, and was produced primarily for the small community of people who know and love it, though it will be of interest to anyone who loves Maine, island, and coastal living.

For those unacquainted with Kill Your Darlings, could you give us the elevator pitch? If you had to sum up the difference between Act One and Act Two of the story in a word, what would it be?The series has spanned multiple time periods, do you guys have a corkboard with red string going this way and that? You're coming off issue #4, which features people being ripped in half, magic swords, and lots of action, with previous issues being a bit more exploratory of the world and character. What went into thinking about plotting the larger story in this way?1011Bob, your work drawing the sword fight is exceptional, to the point where I wondered, did you swing a big sword around to get the right amount of momentum in the body language? At the core of this story is trauma and seemingly the spill off on our main character. To start, you're a busy guy who has written so many kinds of stories, and with Pine and Merrimac out in January I'm curious, how long has this story been kicking around in your head?I love a wife guy. Any chance we'll see more of their first case together?Fran Galan's art is spectacular, the use of color so great, what would you say the visual “vibe” is for the series?Do you have any favorite detective stories, be it comics, movies, or TV?There's a missing persons case in the first issue, how much research goes into real-life cases to know you've got the right angle on a mystery?Maybe it's because it's the end of the year and end-of-year lists are coming out, but I need to ask: have you played Alan Wake 2, the year's best detective video game?Back in October, you wrapped up Peacemaker tries hard. With six issues under your belt, do you feel like you understand the character even better? You're also writing a Wild Dog story that kicked off in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #7, the first chapter has such great cadence and pace, what makes Wild Dog so fun to write? If detective agency Pine and Merrimac had to take on a case with Peacemaker OR Wild Dog, would they take it?
