The last time Ringo Nominated comics writer Erica Schutlz was on the show with me was to talk about her Marvel Comics project Hallow's Eve. That project made me a lifelong fan of her work and after that chat I knew I needed to reach out to her again for my Women In Comics Feature celebrating Women's History Month in March. Her recent Laura Kinney Wolverine book is one of my top favorites of the From The Ashes X-Office storylines and what better character to dive into the specifics of gender in comics on a podcast than X23 who's genesis is from a cloning experiment which finally met with success after twenty two failed attempts using a faulty Y chromosome to attempt to recreate Wolverine? Considering the archetype of the character, this is the most authentic Wolverine story I've read in years. Big fan. We also discuss some of the narrative elements and the thought process behind them for the DaredeviI: Unleash Hell Red Band Edition. I was curious about the mentorship role Elektra has been playing in the last few issues of LKW and why that relationship is different and largely unexplored with female characters in comics and the impacts of all female creative teams is also examined. LAURA KINNEY WOLVERINE #1 From the publisher THE ULTIMATE MUTANT DEFENSE! WOLVERINE takes the fight to those who stand as enemies of mutantkind! LAURA KINNEY was bred to be the ultimate assassin as X-23. She's long left that life behind, but as she encounters mutants being forced to use their powers against their will, WOLVERINE takes it upon herself to right these wrongs - no matter who stands in her way! Dynamic scripter Erica Schultz (HALLOWS' EVE, X-23: DEADLY REGENESIS) and rising-star artist Giada Belviso (BLOOD HUNTERS, MS. MARVEL ANNUAL) bring Wolverine on her first mission abroad in the From the Ashes era, as Laura takes the fight to mutant oppressors wherever they may hide! DAREDEVIL: UNLEASH HELL #1 From the publisher MURDER IS AN ART! The violence and the occult swirling across the Marvel Universe find their way to Hell's Kitchen! As grisly crime scenes start manifesting across the city, all signs point to an impossible perpetrator! Estranged from Matt Murdock, it's up to Elektra to get to the grisly truth, if she can stomach it! PATREON We have a new Patreon, CryptidCreatorCornerpod. This time it's Uncanny X-Men #165 (2009), a surprisingly plot-heavy comic that gets into Laura Kinney's backstory and introduction to the X-Men, plus a side story about Gambit getting back his eyesight (after losing his sight in a battle that wasn't even that interesting, according to Maddy who is writing this description and just looked up the old comic where it happens). Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. Erica Schultz, comic writer extraordinaire, joins our host Lodro Rinzler for the Season 2 finale of X-Men Horoscopes! We dive into the classic X-Men issue 105 where Jean finally figures out she's a giant cosmic bird. Eric the Red (FML that I have to explain Eric the Red) has manipulated the former herald of Galactus Firelord - basically if a matchstick took the form of a person - into taking out the X-Men and only Jean can sort of stop them! We also get a sneak peek at Erica's new series: Laura Kinney the Wolverine, hitting stands this December. Also in this episode: Who is the alien Captain America? What cause will Erica flip her own desk over to defend? Why the new Wolverine series has an all-female creative team Firelord is just a giant matchstick who won't stop talking about the last job he was fired from Eric the Red is the reason Lodro drinks Erica yells at Lodro about his categorization of New York City neighborhoods Jean has the most expensive apartment in NYC and now her security deposit is gone Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum fight on panel Cyclops sees Jean's new power and is torn between "this is sexy" and "I'm terrified" and has lived there ever since Misty Knight gets a bad break in the roommate department This and much more in the finale of Season 2 for X-Men Horoscopes! We will be back in a few weeks with a power-packed Season 3 and, as always, thanks for listening! Erica Schultz is a Ringo Award nominated comic book writer (and editor and instructor and letterer). She is the creator of Forgotten Home (nominated for five Ringo Awards in 2020, published by comiXology Originals and Dark Horse Comics), the co-creator of Bylines in Blood, the co-creator of Strange Tails with Claire Connelly (nominated for a Ringo Award in 2020), co-creator of M3, and creator of Twelve Devils Dancing from Action Lab Danger Zone. Erica has written everything. For Marvel she's written Moon Knight, Black Widow, Daredevil, Hallows' Eve, Beta Ray Bill, Wolverine, Spider-Man, X-23, and Misty Knight. For Image: Spawn: Rat City and The Deadliest Bouquet. You can follow her on Instagram and Twitter (she calls it Twitter still, you might call it X) and check out her very cool stuff here. Plus, get his thoughts on World of Warcraft and his budding interest in the new Suicide Squad isekai anime, setting the stage for a bigger conversation about why game studios need to listen to their fans.Ever wondered how "Logan" managed to stand out in a crowded superhero landscape? We discuss "Logan's" mature and gritty tone, exploring how "Deadpool" might have paved the way for its success. As Anthony gears up for an appearance at Supercon on behalf of Crunchyroll, we're also teasing an upcoming Star Wars-themed episode designed to help newcomers navigate the expansive galaxy far, far away. Whether you're into movies, TV shows, gaming, or novels, we've got tips for every type of Star Wars fan.Daphne Keen's portrayal of X-23 is nothing short of phenomenal, and we break down her fierce fight scenes and emotional depth. The film's poignant portrayal of aging heroes like Charles Xavier and Wolverine adds another layer of complexity, making "Logan" a truly unique entry in the superhero genre. As we reflect on the themes of mortality and legacy, you'll hear why this movie resonates on an emotional level. Stick around for a sneak peek at Dakota's Time Saber whip and an invitation for Star Wars enthusiasts to join us next time for more geeky goodness. Apologies for Anthony's bad audio. Old Man Logan is an alternative version of the fictional character Wolverine appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. This character is an aged version of Wolverine set in an alternate future universe designated Earth-807128, where the supervillains overthrew the superheroes. Introduced as a self-contained story arc within the Wolverine ongoing series by writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven, the character became popular with fans. After the death of Wolverine, Laura Kinney took the Wolverine mantle but an Old Man Logan from the similar Earth-21923 was brought in to serve as an X-Man and featured in his own ongoing series. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rangerryan/message

0:31 Alex WardDo you think the title Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness is a nod to the HP Lovecraft novel "In the Mountains of Madness"? If so, do you think we could see some Lovecraftian-inspired horror in the Nightmare realm and others, such as Cthulhu and the like? Similarly, do you think we'll see Shuma-Gorath show up? He's a pretty Lovecraft-esque Doctor Strange character.1:33 Steven 84 and Gio(Steven) Some noticed that Black Panther 2 was announced for May 2022, while Marvel's February 2022 date was skipped over. Do you think the film for this date was not part of the presentation at D23 because that film will be an adult leaning film like Blade or Deadpool, and they didn't want to send the message to younger fans at a Disney event that they should get their parents to let them see it?(Gio) Wouldn't the February release be further along in development? Do you believe there is a reason to keep that one hidden? If it was a sequel I don't see why not just reveal it, unless it's a brand new franchise. MS has been taking that approach with introducing brand new franchises early in the year (CM, BP, Shang-Chi). If it is a brand new franchise for MS, who would you guess?7:42 Anthony LawreyI can't be the only one that's confused on the plan for WandaVision. D23 confirmed that Darcy Lewis and Jimmy Woo will be in the series, SDCC confirmed Monica Rambeau and IMDB says that John Walker and Sharon Carter are in it as well...how? What's the story here?10:09 Phil HanSean. Any word on if the Disney+ shows are going to be like Netflix or the way DC does it on their service? Will all the episodes be released at once for each series, or one episode a week?10:48 Kerry VanderbergUp until Endgame, the movies mostly took place in real-time, but now they have the 5 year time jump. What are the benefits that you think this provides for the storytelling in the MCU?14:42 DavidGreetings Sean. I found myself pleasantly surprised to be snapped out of my Spider-Man funk by the casting announcement of Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, a.k.a. The Black Knight, in Eternals. With not having the richest comic book history, I'm excited to see what Marvel Studios will do with this character as I think he has a great deal of potential. As he is not himself an Eternal, I'm curious what you think his role will be in the film.16:23 Zack ButsonHow well do you think the news of Spidey not being in the MCU has/will permeate the general audience? Will the moviegoing public still go to Spidey movies thinking they are part of the MCU, will the “in association” intro be really be enough? Do you think a dip in box office should be expected?23:49 LincIs it time that we start calling the MCU the "Marvel Studios Universe", now that the "C", for "Cinematic" is going to rapidly become less relevant, as the next 3 years gives us 5 movies, so 11ish hours in the cinema, and 8 series, so 60ish hours of home entertainment, rivalling the cinematic hours to date?25:57 Mookie JohnsonDo you think that Disney and Sony could work out a smaller agreement for a character like Kraven to show up in Black Panther 2, or maybe another Spider-Man villain show up in other MCU film or have the current state of the Spider-Man talks proven that impossible?29:26 Anthony LawreyLet's say Sony/Marvel don't strike a deal and Spider-Man 3 is only under control by Sony. What is it that scares you so much about the fate of Spider-Man 3? I understand the trust issues with Sony's portrayal of the character in the past has something to do with it but I'm trying to set that aside.35:29 Mookie JohnsonHypothetically,  If Sony  and Disney strike  a Spider-Man deal within a few months, what's your best guess for when it hits theaters based on available information?35:58 Cory KostiukHey Sean hope all is well. With the deal between Sony and Disney over for the time being do you think Sony can use the Disney designed Spiderman suit? Also how do you thinking Spiderman will go about getting his suits without access to Stark tech?38:17 David RosenIf we don't get captain marvel 2 before the premiere of Ms Marvel, how do you see them going about making the connection between those two characters considering how little earth has seen of captain marvel so far?41:29 Cory KostiukHey Sean what are your thoughts on a Moon Knight and Deadpool team up movie?42:05 EdAssuming there are going to be kids in WandaVision, would you expect those kids to be Wiccan and Speed, or Viv and Vic? Or even different kids entirely?43:27 LincWould you rather see the X-Men come into the MCU in a splashy all in one film, or slowly introduce mutants in, and unite them under Xavier later, allowing an Avengers-esque culmination in an actual Uncanny X-Men movie? Or a third option?46:12 BrentacPrimeI've seen reports of a tug of war going on for Jon Watts between the MCU and Sony. If you were given the choice to pick his next projext, would you want him to stay on Spider-Man to keep as much consistency for Holland's movies as possible, or would you prefer to have him stay in the MCU but on a new project?49:23 BrentacPrime When Kamala Kahn is introduced but isn't an inhuman, do you think they would retcon that in the comics? Part of me wonders if they will have her be a mutant and join the X-Men.50:14 Mookie JohnsonWho would you pick to lead a Champions/ Young Avengers team based on current outlook?52:10 GioDo you mind going into a bit more detail on the Red Guardian costume from the BW footage? From how little you saw of it how does the costume compare to the Captain America costumes, since RG is Russia's answer to CA, or also to the comic books?53:05 GioWho do you believe or want to see as the antagonist in WandaVision and why? 54:23 GioWhenever the X-Men are introduced, to give it some variety and to make it a bit different from the Fox X-Men, do you think they would opt for X-23 (Laura Kinney) as the MCU Wolverine instead of Logan?

Jerry powraca do "Thora" Jasona Aarona, a konkretnie do drugiego tomu wprowadzającego do serii "Potężna Thor". A jako że powrót ten zbiegł się z wydaniem pierwszego tomu "All-New Wolverine" serwowanego przez Egmont w ramach Marvel Now 2.0, jest do dobra okazja na swoiste kobiece double-feature. Jak Jerry ocenia rozwinięcie wątku tożsamości Potężnej Thor? Na czym polega specyfika albumu "Kto dzierży młot?"? Jak wypada Laura Kinney jako Wolverine? Jakie wątki eksplorują Aaron i Taylor w swoich opowieściach? Komiksy „Thor. Kto dzierży młot” oraz "All-New Wolverine. Cztery siostry" kupicie oczywiście w sklepie wydawnictwa Egmont.

Y fuimos a ver The Wolverine. Larga vida a Logan. Bienvenida Laura.  Se convierte ya en un nuevo clásico. En la cinta a vencer.

Travel with Joe and TJ to the year 2029 for a gritty, dark take on X-Men's Wolverine — a compelling and worthwhile, if violent story. This film is a film first and a comic book adaptation second. Episode Series: X-Men

Art Smitten - The Podcast

Logan is the brand new marvel film under the banner of 20th Century Fox, adding to the long running series of X-Men Films. Logan concludes the trilogy of Wolverine, the two previous films, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and The Wolverine, being mildly successful, but for the most part not critically rated very highly. This all changes with Logan, which has been met with massive praise, easily trumping the average reviews of the previous films. However, does the film really deserve the praise? I went into Logan ready for the best superhero film I’ve ever seen, as that is what I got from the reviews. I was prepared for the best Marvel film I’ve ever seen, and I’m not a big fan of marvel films. To begin, I agree wholeheartedly that Logan is the best film in the trilogy of Wolverine films. It deals with some very real issues, the acting is great from all performances, and it reflects on the long X-Men trilogy in a simple, brutal light. However, for myself, it was not the best superhero film I’ve seen. Logan is not a bad film, not by a long shot. Honestly, nearly up there with the best superhero films to be made in my opinion. It's up there with X-Men: Days of Future Past, Captain America: Winter Solider and Spider Man 2. These three films are what cement good superhero films to me. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is something I’m not even close to a fan of. Perhaps it's my background in film culture or script writing. Maybe I’m just a film snob. Either way, the films listed to me are the best superhero films ever made, as they present something more than just a hero and villain plot, an action sequence, and smooth editing effects. They reflect society, have a message within them, and stand out among the rest. I’m battling with the idea that Logan is up there with these three masterpieces, as it does really do a lot right when it comes to reflecting values and issues in society. Before clarifying why I didn’t love the film as much as I thought I would, I need to address what the film does shine in. Logan is the No Country for Old Men in the Marvel Franchise. The plots are different, but the cinematography, brutality, and characters reflect the film. It's a Western at heart, the main character being a lone wolf who holds strong, moral values, and is willing to sacrifice himself to save others. The character of Logan is this clearly, a man who still holds strong values, yet is alone in an ageing and near apocalyptic society. The R18+ rating for Logan shows, and was clearly needed. Going back to watch the M rated X-Men and Wolverine films, you notice how much is lost without bloodshed and violence. I’m not advocating violence in films here, but in Logan it is a necessity. The film would not be the same without the violence which is shown, as it adds to the realism in the society the film portrays, and shows that nothing is that far from death. The performances in Logan is another aspect which shines, and defines the film. Hugh Jackman is still great as Logan, however brings something new in this installment. Logan is a lot older and more mature, and broken in this film. His limp is consistent, his yells are shaky, and his emotion is clear. Patrick Stewart however gives us something which is completely different to anything he has done previously as Professor X, and alongside this applies a message which comes from outside the film. Professor X displays clear symptoms of dementia in Logan, due to his age. The way the film shows this idea is the backbone which make this film shine. Stewart portrays a clearly lost man, lost in his thoughts, lost in his way of life and lost in where he even is. When we are first introduced to Xavier he is rocketing around on his wheelchair yelling about random stuff, completely different to anything we’ve ever seen of him before. The most powerful moments however are the episodes that he has. A normal old person who has an episode is fair enough. It’s manageable but hard since it does affect the people around them. However this is Professor X, who has the power of telepathy. When he has an episode in the film everyone in a one mile radius are affected, and as mentioned early in the film, can kill some people. The way the film deals with dementia is simple yet explosive I thought, as easily one of the best aspects of the film. Dafne Keen does a great job as Laura Kinney, or X-23 for all the X-Men fans out there. I didn’t quite enjoy the reveal of her talking, as it was suppose to be pitched as a big deal, but wasn’t really to me. Stephen Merchant as Caliban was great, however was a bit of an odd change from Tómas Lemarquis, who portrayed him in X-Men: Apocalypse. Alongside the performances, visually the film was very impressive, and I really liked the change in scenery from orange to green, with each location having very different styles, characters and emotions. The music of the film was good too, however the editing of sound was better, especially with Professor X’s episodes, how the audio was made high pitched and tinny, with an added screen wobble. Finally, why was the film not everything I had hoped it would be? I’ve listed so much that is good with the film that even I’m confused why I didn’t love it. I guess it would probably be the ending. It’s quite stereotypical, and can be called a mile away, even before seeing the film. I understand what they were going for, but I feel as though it didn't add a great deal of emotional distress, which was that they were going for. The ending is important to this film, as it wraps up the trilogy and should give us something powerful and meaningful. It's just simple, plain, and obvious though, which is a disappointment. However, perhaps this is the point. X-Men films are known to be big, bold and action packed. Logan is the least of all these three. It has action, but it never reaches the spectacle of Days of Future Past or Deadpool. It deals with some big plot developments, but nothing majorly changes in the world they reside in. Finally, it's not that big; they don’t travel far, or make big impacts to the world. This is the point of Logan. Logan is a peaceful tragedy. It's a plain, simple film, which deals with sensitive issues and portrays them honestly and brutally. I don’t consider Logan a superhero film, meaning it's not my favourite superhero film. I think Logan is a perfectly timed, structured, acted, and directed tragic Western, which deals with a man who has come to the end of the line, and needs to perform one last act to save himself.
