Exploding Head (Persea Books, 2024) chronicles a woman's childhood onset and adult journey through obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which manifests in fearful obsessions and counting compulsions that impact her relationship to motherhood, religion, and the larger world. Cynthia Marie Hoffman's unsettling, image-rich poems chart the interior landscape of the obsessive mind. Along with an angel who haunts the poems' speaker throughout her life, she navigates her fear of guns and accidents, fears for the safety of her child, and reckons with her own mortality, ultimately finding a path toward peace. Whether or not you have a diagnosis of OCD, these poems will make you feel seen at a deep level that's rare in today's world. Cynthia Marie Hoffman is the author of Exploding Head (Persea Books, 2024), Call Me When You Want to Talk about the Tombstones (Persea Books, 2018), Paper Doll Fetus (Persea Books, 2014), and Sightseer (Persea Books, 2011). On this episode. I interview Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming State, the arguably greatest Senator of our generation. Senator Lummis has spent her entire career advocating for Wyoming families businesses and values, and most recently for crypto. Lummis became the first crypto owner in the Senate's history. And now, Lummis is leading the legislative push to build a regulatory framework that will support crypto markets. Senator and I also discuss the joy and wonder of working with Democratic New Yorkers.

105: "My learning is your learning." Boundaries & discovering individual agency through Kapwa with Cynthia Marie Antonio Siadat This episode is also available on YouTube: https://youtu.be/UMw6RoRzzNQ (https://youtu.be/UMw6RoRzzNQ) Cynthia, Jen & Nani have a heartfelt discussion about the internal friction commonly felt by Pinays trying to uphold their identities as both Filipinx & as Americans. On one hand, we thrive in our collective nature, or Kapwa - our shared Filipinx identity, found at the heart of our Filipinx culture. But on the other hand, as we traverse through the American diaspora, we also feel pulled to investigate self-exploration. The friction between the two leaves us at a disadvantage in learning how to navigate our lives honoring both sides. Stressing the importance of storytelling, the three conclude that sharing the lessons we learn in our individual journeys of healing & decolonization actually helps our brothers & sisters to increase their awareness of the connection between their own identity & mental health, in turn advancing our collective as a whole. Even though it can feel like a constant juggling act, integrating healthy boundaries with our families creates space for a new objective appreciation. Through this practice we learn to lean on family as our systems of support, rather than developing a codependency crutch. Cynthia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from Vallejo, CA currently residing in LA who has held her 100% virtual practice since pre-pandemic times. She also shares how she carries Kapwa into her work aesthetic, especially when working with BIPOC clients, and how helping them to connect with their own identities by way of their culture makes way for incredible transformation. In her journey of learning to honor her own mental health needs, she aims her professional focus using one simple question: "how can we allow those outside of our community to experience the beauty of Kapwa?" Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is characterized by six months or more of chronic, exaggerated worry and tension that is unfounded or much more severe than the normal anxiety most people experience. Cynthia Marie shares her daily battles and coping mechanisms with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres. There is irony in the fact that a dancer and performer would have to experience such a debilitating disorder. Or is it? When she performs she fully loses herself in a character, uninhibited, fully committed to the existence of an alternate reality. This temporary disconnection could be a key to greater health and awareness. Cynthia hopes by sharing her journey, she can assist the over 7 million adults out there who also fight this battle in their own lives. Women are twice as likely to be affected, so she is empowering females of all ages to find their own tools and inner strength through role playing and the performing arts. You are not alone. LARP(Live Action Role Play) has been an obscure subculture since the 1970's. Expert Larper, Cynthia Marie, sits with America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, to explain the history and mystique behind this rapid new popular pastime. In recent news, Crisis Actors who have vandalized and wreaked havoc in the name of ANTIFA have been labeled as Larpers. But in the end, it's just a group of people with a common interest in storytelling and fully immersing themselves in a fictional character full of imagination and wonder. It requires weapons, wardrobe and makeup, as well as the uninhibited will and ability to become an actor in an improvised setting. As Cynthia says, "Larp is a hybrid fusion of Dungeons & Dragons and Cosplay", both of which have become mainstream as of the year 2020. So why not LARP next? Cynthia Marie, Kai Norman, and Ryan Omega are finally back together for this episode of Life. Action. RolePlay! The topic is "Making Character Backgrounds" and we start with a test to see what KIND of character we like playing by taking the "Bartle Test" that tells us how we like to game.We also segue into the idea of "Play to Lose," an advanced concept in roleplaying where you make bold narrative choices that could end badly for your character. You can take the Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology at this link here: https://matthewbarr.co.uk/bartle/
Meet Cynthia Marie, a dancer, gamer, role player and cohosts the podcast Life.Action.Roleplay with former guest Ryan Omega. In this episode, we continue our journey through the LARP'ing world of LA and get into the best skin care routines for this Los Angeles climate. About The Show: LA is a city of 4 million spread over 503 miles, 114 neighborhoods and can take over an hour to get from one side to the other. With that many people bumping up against each other, how is it possible to feel alone and isolated. It's a city of paradox: dreams and heartbreak. Lifelong locals and those just coming in for a shot. Each week, I sit down with a Los Angeles resident to connect. Talk about our lives and what got us to where we are today. Talking. What does it mean for two people to get to know each other? It's also a show about connection in the larger sense, because each guest introduces me to the following week's guest. And as the weeks progress, it'll filter up a chain of people who can all be linked back to each other through who they know. That person we pass in the street, get behind at the grocery store, sit next to at the bar. They are all more connected to us than we may realize at first glance. A couple handshakes away...or, for the bold, maybe just one. I'm Ana Fernatt and I don't know anyone in LA. But...now I know you. Cynthia Marie, Ryan Omega and their guest, Lex the Chameleon talk about the differences between roleplaying in LARP and roleplaying while on camera in a livestream. They use examples from their own shows such as LA by Night and Blank Slate as well as the LARPs they've attended, such as Twin Mask and Vampire LARPs.We also address ideas like, "How much of your roleplaying is performing when you know you are watched on camera?" and "What kind of characters are more difficult to roleplay in a LARP vs Livestream?"
Born in New Jersey and raised in New York's Hudson Valley, Cynthia Marie loves to drive cross-country - she's done it six times. On one of those trips, she found herself nearly out of gas and calling Roy's in Amboy, CA, asking them to keep the pumps open for just a bit longer so she could gas up and make it to Joshua Tree for the night. As is the desert way, the obliged. Still working in graphic design, Cynthia went to art school to study Printmaking. The school required their sophomores to take one class that felt out of their comfort zone - Cynthia chose metal fab(rication) sculpture and fell in love. Cynthia has worked in both the artistic and production sides of welding. Starting making furniture and then moved over to the production side which found her working on huge entertainment sets in Hollywood and Las Vegas and even to Rio de Janeiro building the NBC stage for the Olympics. In the episode she talks about the challenges of working out of the country, which included some difficulties getting clean laundry. Once in the desert, Cynthia quickly found herself meeting local folks through volunteering with the Desert Institute, where she continues learning and experiencing the desert up close and personal. We have very frank discussions about our own experiences and discuss practical solutions on what to do when a person is overwhelmed from a situation in LARP or how to deal with a person that makes you uncomfortable. We also talk about the phenomenon "The Broken Stair" in LARP and how this affects the safety of the LARP community and what can be done to fix it.

Have you played a character concept in a LARP and realized you don't know where to take your character in the story? Or have you played a long time character, about to start another, but completely clueless where to start?Hosts, Ryan and Cynthia Marie are joined by guests, CW Fox and PJ Megaw, to discuss different ways to avoid getting stuck with your character and brainstorming new character concepts. At least it started this way. There's going to be a lot of discussion about Cheesy pizza places and bad accents in this podcast.
It was 110 degrees when we were sharing a bottle of pink wine and Ryan, Cynthia Marie, Kai and Tobias McCurry talked about stories of long time friendships from LARP and roleplaying. While segueing into other topics, we talk extensively about reaching for the safety of communities in LARP as the foundation for many of these friendships and relationships to grow.
Cynthia Marie and Ryan Omega do a last minute get together with P.J. Megaw and Courtney Kraft to talk about the game "Arcana High," everything from the inspirations behind this game among friends to becoming a Dungeons & Dragons game as a show on Maze Arcana on Twitch.Over a large bottle of unfiltered sake.
*Trigger warning* This episode contains details of an assault. Cynthia Marie pops in to talk about the exotic dance industy and the climax of escalating harassment here in Evansville.
For this episode posted on Valentine's Day, we discuss the boons and cautions of roleplaying an in-character romance with another player. We cover how much "consent" and "bleed" are used to manage affection and the relationship between roleplayers, including roleplaying with someone else's real-life significant other with the hosts, Cyn, Kai and Omega and our friend and guest, Poisal. We brought Poisal to the show, not just as a previous head storyteller for the game La Sangre de Los Angeles, but as a player who plays an in-character relationship with our host, Cynthia Marie.
There are many relationships fostered as a result of roleplay, prominently in-character but also extend beyond gaming. Dating is not uncommon in the LARP world and many even get married in Real-Life as a result of having met their mate in game.Cynthia Marie and Ryan Omega cover attraction, dating and the crossover of feelings from in-character to real-life in this podcast. With our guests who run a LARP, we also cover how those relationships are managed at events.Joining us are our special guests, John and Angela Basset, a married couple who met doing LARP years ago. John is also the creator of the LARP, Twin Mask, and Angela is the Head of Logistics for that same LARP. *editors note: John and Angela were our first guests for this podcast but due to the timing of the issue of the previous podcast, the podcast with Kai Norman was released earlier. - R.O.

Burning Paper at Lazarus Cemetery The woman who works in the cemetery in her blue smock bends to pick a scrap of paper from the earth and drop it in the barrel as a god would drop a bird into a sputtering volcano. A white smoke rises and disappears. All around her, crosses are popping up like crooked weeds. Listen to the little river swish along the walls of the canal. Nearby, a fresh grave is plump with flowers, a mound like a dozen girls fainted in their ruffled party skirts. What better place to be set into the ground? The trees lower long necks to the water, their many flat faces nodding at their own reflections. The woman bends. Another bird is lit afire.
