Named after the founder of bourbon, Reverend Elijah Craig, this whiskey packs a 12 year age statement and is bottled at barrel proof without chill filtration. Three batches are put out every year, and this particular one is the first for 2023. Taking a closer look at the name A123, the “A” denotes that it is the first batch of the year, “1” is the month that it was released in (January), and “23” signifies the year it was released in. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof A123 is bottled at 125.6 Proof (62.8% ABV) and has a retail price of around $69.95 USD. Mike Ryan from Big Stick Bourbon and Semper Fi Spirits joins us to talk about their unique product. Big Stick Bourbon is unique because before bottling they add a charred New American White Oak Stick into every bottle. The bourbon to stick in bottle ratio is 99.8% equivalent to that of bourbon in a 53-gallon barrel. Similar to a “Double Oaked” whiskey, this added step allows their bourbon to integrate with new oak for a second time. FYI! Picks Packs are live! Go to www.picksshop.com to get yours today! The packs are super cool and contain three blind whiskeys along with some tasting notes that the community has crowdsourced about the whiskey and QR codes which allow you to reveal your whiskey after you have tasted. They're great gifts for the whiskey lover in your life or also great for you to hone in your palate with blind tastings along with the community! It's 20% off at www.orcacoolers.com until 12/15/2022 so head over there to get your discount while you can!
For the first time in its storied history, the Jack Daniel Distillery is introducing a 100% malted barley grain bill with the new Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled Special Release American Single Malt Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks. The 2022 limited edition Special Release features American Single Malt Whiskey twice barreled and bottled straight from sherry casks at 105.7 – 107.8 proof. Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled Special Release American Single Malt begins with 100% malted barley that is ground, fermented and distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The whiskey passes through Jack Daniel's traditional charcoal mellowing process and is then matured in new, charred American white oak barrels for at least four years. It is then finished for an additional two years in the finest quality Spanish Oloroso sherry casks from the Antonio Paez Lobato Cooperage before bottling at cask proof. THE SPIRIT OF WOMEN is a female driven piece that takes an intimate look at the women paving the way for females in the male dominated world of whiskey and bourbon. The film will sit down with these trailblazing women, who are changing the entire landscape of the what the world thinks it knows about women and whiskey and most of them are the first in their field. This includes the first female bourbon taster in the world, the first female Master Distiller in Kentucky, the first female African-American Master Blender, the first female African-American CEO of any major spirit brand among others. We will also take on the important social issue of sexism, as well as how womens involvement in the alcohol industry has been buried throughout the ages. June 17, 2022For his inaugural episode, Still Life host Andy Nelson turns to friend and podcast pro John Edwards for pointers, and the conversation takes some surprisingly personal turns. John Edwards is best known as one half of the award-winning podcast Dads Drinking Bourbon. After his prospects as an athlete were cut short by an injury in college, he turned his attention to radio, working as a sportscaster and reporter for a series of national and regional stations before changing gears again to pursue a thriving career in IT. Somewhere along the way, he developed a taste for whiskey, which, when combined with his natural gift for talking into a microphone, led him and friend Zeke Baker to create Dads Drinking Bourbon in 2016. Over 350 episodes later, DDB has gone become one of the most popular and well-regarded spirits-related podcasts around.
