In this episode of Whiskey Rocks, we sit down with one of the fearless founders of Old Line Spirits—Mark McLaughlin- a former Navy pilot who traded fighter jets for fermenters. Based in Baltimore, Old Line is making serious noise in the American Single Malt game with bold flavors, unapologetic storytelling, and a rebellious spirit rooted in brotherhood and adventure. We dive into how a chance encounter with a defunct distillery launched their journey, the risks they took to honor tradition while breaking the rules, and why American Single Malt might just be the next big thing in whiskey. Along the way, we pair their flagship whiskey with some high-octane rock anthems and unpack what makes a great bottle—and a great story. This one's got jets, jams, and just the right amount of char. Buckle up.To learn more about Old Line Spirits visit: http://www.oldlinespirits.com/
Coopers have used everything from torches to infrared lamps to toast the inside of barrels. Now, a technique pioneered by the wine industry is making its way into whisky: the use of heated Icelandic magma stone formed by volcanic lava. It's said to provide a more consistent toasting than other methods, and Dewar's is the first to use the technique in whisky. We'll talk about it with Dewar's master blender Stephanie Macleod on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, more tariffs on whisky could be coming this week, while Whisky Magazine hands out its annual World Whiskies Awards and Icons of Whisky Awards.

Introduction to Lqd Assets: Morgan Salsman, founder of Lqd Assets, joins us to explore her business and its unique focus on bourbon barrels and real estate. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Lqd Assets has three main areas: a bourbon barrel investment fund, bourbon warehousing, and brand development. Investing in Bourbon Barrels: Morgan explains how investing in bourbon barrels can be a lucrative venture, with parallels to real estate. From sourcing barrels to aging bourbon, Morgan shares how her team handles everything from barrel acquisition to brand partnerships. How Bourbon Barrels Appreciate Over Time: Bourbon barrels, like property, can appreciate in value. Morgan walks us through the timeline of barrel aging, from initial filling to significant appreciation milestones, like the “Kentucky Straight Bourbon” label at the two-year mark. The Real Estate Connection: Lqd Assets' warehousing facilities for bourbon barrels are key to their business model and tie directly into Morgan's background in civil engineering. She describes her journey from real estate to bourbon, highlighting how warehousing and land use play a central role in the business. Production and Brand Partnerships: For brands unable to build their own facilities, Lqd Assets offers a solution by aging and storing barrels. Morgan explains the sourcing and blending process, where brands customize the barrel contents to suit their product needs, much like winemakers selecting grapes. Returns and Financial Structure: Morgan provides insights into the financial side of bourbon barrel investment. Despite industry shifts, her company has seen impressive annual returns of 20-30%. She also discusses how the aging process impacts the barrels' value, akin to property appreciation. Bourbon Warehousing Expansion: Lqd Assets recently expanded its warehousing, allowing them to store up to 160,000 barrels. Morgan talks about designing the warehouses, using her engineering expertise, and scaling their storage to meet market demand. Key Takeaways: Unique Investment: Discover how bourbon barrels, like real estate, appreciate over time and provide a tangible asset-backed investment opportunity. Blending Real Estate with Bourbon: Morgan draws clear parallels between bourbon barrel investment and real estate, from warehousing to asset appreciation. Growing Demand: As the bourbon industry grows, so does the need for warehousing and aged barrels, positioning Lqd Assets for significant growth. -Get Interviewed on the Show! - ================================== Are you a real estate investor with some 'tales from the trenches' you'd like to share with our audience? On this week's episode of Drinks At Work, we've got deep, deep expertise. I'm talking to the master blender for The Glendronach, Dr Rachel Barrie, about her career — she has, as she says in the chat here, nosed somewhere around 170,000 barrels of whisky to date. That is just a crazy number of whiskies to have been exposed to in one lifetime. We talk about what a week in the life of a master blender looks like, and we get into the new campaign for The Glendronach, which is all about Raising Expectations.

Fah Mai Holdings Group Inc (OTC:FMHG) UK head and manager of @whiskybullauctions Jacob Carter speaks to Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the benefits and strategies of investing in casks. Carter explained that investing in casks is a promising opportunity due to the strong correlation between age and value. He highlighted that the market for rare and collectable casks is growing, making it an attractive alternative to traditional assets like real estate or stocks. Cask investments offer more liquidity compared to bottles and can provide returns within 3 to 5 years, especially when stored longer to increase value. Carter also mentioned that cask investments are free of capital gains tax, classifying them as wasting assets with a predictable life of 50 years or less. He described the different types of casks available, including barrels, Hogsheads, Butts, and specialty casks like Madeira drums and Port pipes, each offering unique profiles and market preferences. Regarding investment strategies, Carter emphasised the importance of considering the desired length of investment and conducting market research to make informed decisions. He also outlined various exit strategies, such as selling to private investors, wholesalers, distilleries, or through auctions. Additionally, bottling the cask is an option, although it involves duty and VAT calculations. Carter advised investors to consider macroeconomic conditions, such as trade tariffs, which could impact whisky investment returns. He also reminded investors to factor in storage and insurance costs when planning their investments. #WhiskyInvestment #CaskInvestment #JacobCarter #FahMaiHoldings #WhiskyMarket #InvestingInWhisky #WhiskyCasks #ProactiveInvestors #AlternativeInvestments #WhiskyCollector #InvestmentTips #FinancialAdvice #WhiskyAuctions #RareWhisky #WhiskyTaxBenefits #ProactiveInvestors #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

In this episode of the Vint Podcast, Brady and Billy hear from the founder and CEO of Rocky Mountain Barrel Company, Skyler Weekes. Skyler's business competes in a unique sector of the wine and whisky market as a reseller of used barrels and casks. Much of RMBC's business is selling "finishing" casks to producers and amassing a diverse stock of Rum, Sherry, Bourbon, and Port (and much more) casks to be sold for a second use. Sky's insights into both worlds of wine and spirits really ads color to a part of the industry that we knew very little about...He is also formally trained as a sommelier and talks a bit about how he uses his instincts for tasting, blending, and flavor pairing to advise clients toward the right casks for their final product. We hope you learn something new about the wine and whisky market through our conversation! For more information on the Vint investment platform, please contact us anytime at brady@vint.co or billy@vint.co. Tasting Notes: Looking for well-aged product at ridiculous price points with pedigree, history, and an age statement, that's damn delicious! BUY MORE RUM! In this case, buy Appleton Estate's "Rare Casks" 12yr old, an 86-proof blend of Jamaican pot still and column still rums. The nose explodes with rich earthy funk and florals, pineapple, banana, and coconut with touches of barrel spice as well. On the palate, the barrel aging asserts itself first with cinnamon and vanilla, then rounds out with coffee beans, honey, and bitter chocolate. The key is that it's NOT TOO SWEET, so you really can enjoy sipping it for hours. People keep trying to make rum the "new" bourbon. Thankfully they haven't because the deals and value are still there in spades.

Lets talk our favorite maturation casks. Each of the crew take us through their favorite maturation casks and to be honest it's not that surprising, although just a little bit skewed for a couple. There is also an opporunity to win yourself a 100ml sample of a very special whisky from Vik, you just have to solve a riddle and let us know the answer. we will pick someone at random that answers correctly and let you know who that was in a couple of episodes time. CBP Stories showcase individual members who have an inspiring story to tell. Spencer Moore is currently the Production Manager for Lock 27 Brewing in Dayton, Ohio. in 2015, when his wife was stationed in the United Kingdom, he found himself on a food tour at a brewery in which he spontaneously asked for a job. He then began his brewing career at Calverley's Brewery in Cambridge, UK, a very traditional cask brewery. He moved back to the states in 2018 where he spent time learning new brewing techniques at Line Creek Brewing in Peachtree City, GA. He began doing cellar work, learning packaging, and growing his skill set that ultimately led him to be their Head Brewer. He is also an Ambassador for Aseptic Fruit Purees, enjoys running on trails, and drinks way too much coffee. The diversity of Irish whiskey today is in a new league compared to just 20 years ago when a few big brands dominated the market. One of the things that defines a modern Irish whiskey is the story behind it, and few have as compelling a story as Slane Irish Whiskey. Distilled on the grounds of Slane Castle—a site famous in part for hosting huge outdoor rock concerts since the 1980s—the brand uses water from the mythologically important River Boyne and homegrown grain, prioritizes measurable sustainability practices, and weaves the legacy of its rock-n-roll history into their finished products. We are thrilled to be joined this week by Slane Irish Whiskey co-founder and global brand ambassador Alex Conyngham. We speak with Alex about growing up at Slane Castle, his family's environmental legacy, and what it was like to build a competitive global brand in a competitive spirits marketplace. We also discuss what it means to be truly sustainable in the distilling world, as well as how artisan food and drink producers collaborate to support one another in the Boyne Valley.Dyed Green is a project of Bog & Thunder, whose mission is to highlight the best of Irish food and culture, through food tours, events, and media. In this episode, Matt tastes the Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled Special Release American Single Malt Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks.
For the first time in its storied history, the Jack Daniel Distillery is introducing a 100% malted barley grain bill with the new Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled Special Release American Single Malt Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks. The 2022 limited edition Special Release features American Single Malt Whiskey twice barreled and bottled straight from sherry casks at 105.7 – 107.8 proof. Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled Special Release American Single Malt begins with 100% malted barley that is ground, fermented and distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The whiskey passes through Jack Daniel's traditional charcoal mellowing process and is then matured in new, charred American white oak barrels for at least four years. It is then finished for an additional two years in the finest quality Spanish Oloroso sherry casks from the Antonio Paez Lobato Cooperage before bottling at cask proof. For this week's show we will be trying something from one of our favorite spirits categories and it comes highly recommended from someone who has never led us astray. While in chat during one of his gaming sessions, Andrew had this bourbon recommended to him by fellow bourbon lover, Berserkr. Fortunately for us, Andrew was able to grab the last bottle at our local Total Wine so we could share it with you. For this episode we will be trying the Rabbit Hole Dareringer Bourbon. This bourbon is finished in PX Sherry casks and comes in at 46.5% ABV. What did we think? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch. If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@gmail.com.
Bob introduces Brad to director Jason Reitman's 2011 dark comedy Young Adult. Reitman made this film as a follow-up to Up in the Air, and it reunited him with Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody. How will Brad react to the mean-spirited character at the film's core? Meanwhile, our hosts revisit the Johnnie Walker brand, this time for a rye-finished blended called Select Casks. It seems this expression was intended to launch a new line for the brand, but those plans have since been abandoned. Does that suggest something about the quality of what's in their glasses? In this episode, we welcomed Carsten Vlierboom of E&A Scheer back to the show to discuss the single cask side of the business—The Main Rum Company. If you've ever enjoyed an exceptional independently bottled release, there's a good chance it was sourced from Main Rum.We dug into not only what they have in their aging warehouses, but what actually goes into managing such a large selection of rare and limited rums from all over the world. How do you know when to sell a particular cask? How do you decide which location to age each cask in? Which casks would Carsten most want to bottle for himself? And what exactly is an "infinity" cask?!You'll hear all this and a whole lot more.P.S. Did you know you can support The Rumcast on Patreon now and get cool extra stuff? You can!
