POPULARITY
Do you remember your first job? For our guest today, Andy Lang, it was a rollercoaster ride into the finance industry at the tender age of 16, which sparked a lifelong passion. Join us as we journey with Andy, now the founder and CEO of Munny, from his early involvement in the financial services industry to charting his unique path in financial services education.Andy's story is a testament to overcoming challenges and finding purpose. He dives deep into his transformative globetrotting experiences, his hands-on involvement in debt management and banking, and an impactful volunteer trip to Rwanda. As he narrates his journey, we also get a sneak peek into his venture, Munny. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in financial awareness through free education and resources tailored to cater to different age groups. Moving beyond just empowering individuals, Andy also shares his vision for businesses to adopt financial well-being programs for their staff. But, how can we possibly talk about finance and not address the elephant in the room? The stress and anxiety that often accompany the lack of understanding and knowledge around money. Andy sheds light on how Money is revolutionising this space by fostering open conversations about financial matters, boosting financial confidence, and encouraging informed decision-making. We also explore how Munny is extending its reach to schools, colleges, councils and even corporate businesses. Can financial literacy really make a difference? Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Unfortunately greed can't help your videogame character afford everything in the town shop, even though all they sell are hotdogs and potions for some reason. The only thing that can solve that is the solution to honestly every problem on the planet - MONEY. On today's bonus episode we talk about forms of currency in gaming and even look up some of the wealthiest characters to ever exist. Dana and Tom start their month of Best Picture winners with the winner from 1992, Unforgiven: directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, written by David Webb Peoples, with Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris, and Gene Hackman. Plot Summary: William Munny (Clint Eastwood) is a widowed farmer with a dark past. Munny left his gun fighting days behind him to marry his wife. However, with his wife now deceased, Munny is approached by a want-to-be gunfighter, the Schofield Kid (Jaimz Woolvet), to assist him in killing 2 cowboys that cut up a prostitute in Big Whiskey, Wyoming. Facing a hard future as a farmer, Munny eyes the $1,000 bounty as new hope for his family. He soon recruits his ex-partner, Ned Logan (Morgan Freeman) and joins in the effort to kill the cowboys. Little does he know that the cowboys are protected by the local sheriff, Little Bill Dagget (Gene Hackman), a brutal, violent enforcer of the law, and a showdown looms. What does this 1992 Clint Eastwood film tell us about mythologizing of cruel figures in the so called ‘Wild West'? How does the character “English Bob” reflect the sanitizing fictions that were circulated in the press and popular culture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries? How does the film illustrate the real emotional and moral impact of killing? How do the differing reactions of Munny, Ned Logan and the ‘Schofield Kid' illustrate the moral deadening and injurious effects of a lifetime as killer and outlaw? How does the character Munny illustrate that in lawless circumstances, in order to exact justice or retribution, or provide security, society often employs hard men, but then tends to push them aside when the emergency has passed? How does the treatment of the women in the film illustrate the morally shocking nature and misogyny of brothels? The victim of a viscious attack is treated merely as property that had been damaged. How do the women respond when they find they will not be protected by Little Bill, the sheriff? How does the film illustrate arguments in favor of legalizing such work which eventually carried the day in Nevada? How does the parasitical nature of the writer W.W. Beauchamp, and his desire to latch on to the three main characters illustrate the moral risks and harmful consequences of ‘yellow journalism?'

On this episode, we discuss the sixty-fifth Best Picture Winner: “UNFORGIVEN.”Disgusted by Sheriff "Little Bill" Daggett's decree that several horses make up for a cowhand slashing a prostitutes's face, Big Whiskey prostitutes, led by the fierce Strawberry Alice, take justice into their own hands and put a $1,000 bounty on the lives of the perpetrators. Notorious outlaw-turned-hog farmer William Munny is sought out by neophyte gunslinger "the Schofield Kid" to go with him to Big Whiskey and collect the bounty. While Munny insists, "I ain't like that no more," he needs the bounty money for his children, and the two men convince Munny's clean-living comrade Ned Logan to join them in righting the wrong done by Sheriff "Little Bill" Daggett. Directed by Clint Eastwood, “Unforgiven” stars Clint Eastwood as Bill Munny, Gene Hackman as Little Bill Daggett, Morgan Freeman as Ned Logan, Jaimz Woolvett as The 'Schofield Kid', Frances Fisher as Strawberry Alice, and Richard Harris as English Bob.Here on The Envelope, we discuss & review every Best Picture Winner in the Academy Awards History. He created his first toy with Fisher-Price at the age of 18 and was and was at the forefront of the designer toy craze in the early 2000s with his work at KidRobot, creating the Dunny and Munny art toys.He is regularly commissioned by a roster of clients that includes Nike, Versace, and even Barack Obama. These days, Eaton is one of the most prominent street artists working today. His large scale mural work features a meticulous, visual collage of pop imagery mixed with his unique personal style, all executed with freehand spray paint on a colossal scale. In this conversation, Tristan discusses how toy design was a natural evolution from the world of street art, but why he ultimately felt a calling back to his roots. "Being deeply in the middle of Hypebeast culture and being a slave to people's shopping habits and how you make your art--that was never why I wanted to make art. I didn't want to retroactively design my art for a seasonal release-or a shopping habit."Tristan sees his creative career in chapters, but no matter the reinvention, he is forever cast under the spell of spray paint's alchemy. His art is a permanent catalyst in his own life. "A lot of my girlfriends in the past have hated my art because it's a strange force. It gives me my sense of who I am and my work ethic. Sometimes the people in your life want to be the ones that give you that. But I'm very lucky because I find this power and strength and peace from my own art."In this episode, you will learn the importance of self-reinvention to escape formulaic mediocrity, how to know if your subconscious is driving your work, and why inviting people into your own invented universe is perhaps the only way to get clients to give you free rein.Follow @OvershareTalks on Instagram and Twitter. Jeff Munn in for Brad Monday. “Munny” is taking a wait-and-see approach with Kliff Kingbury's offense after Oakland Raiders' safety Lamarcus Joyner called it “pretty-boy football” after their win in Glendale last Thursday. The pre-season can be mis-leading…as we've all seen before. NFL Network Senior Fantasy Analyst Michael Fabiano (35:04 on podcast) joined Jordan Hamm to look ahead to the upcoming season. Plus, the Diamondbacks appear to be struggling down the stretch and Jeff thinks a 9:00A Pac-12 football start time makes zero sense.
"Any man don't wanna get killed...better clear on out the back." On this week's episode Dustin and Mike sit down to talk about Clint Eastwood's morally acute meditation on violence and redemption, and his last word on the western genre, Unforgiven. It's the story of William Munny and Ned Logan who aint bad men no more, they're just quiet farmers trying to make their way in the world. But after Munny is faced with a difficult choice they set out on one more fateful job as hired guns to make a little money and kill some men they guess probably got it comin'. Download the show, listen to the discussion, and see if the film gets the judgment it deserves.
