Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X, and listen on Apple, iHeart, Spotify and all major podcast platforms.Stagg bourbon has earned its reputation as what the Scotchy Bourbon Boys call "the perfect man's bourbon" - a barrel-proof powerhouse that delivers without compromise. This episode brings Super Nash back to explore what makes Stagg special and how it's evolved since dropping the "Junior" designation in 2021.The boys taste multiple batches side-by-side, comparing the last Stagg Jr. (Batch 12 at 130.9 proof) with recent 2024 releases. What emerges is a fascinating portrait of consistency - the signature brown sugar and cherry notes remain intact across batches, proving Buffalo Trace's commitment to maintaining quality while increasing availability. The team discusses how Stagg has become more accessible in Ohio and beyond, with multiple 2024 batches (A through D) hitting shelves this year.Perhaps most intriguing is the comparison between standard Stagg and George T. Stagg from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Many bourbon enthusiasts actually prefer the regular Stagg despite the significant price difference, describing it as "the working man's bourbon" versus "the rich man's special bottle." At $59.99 MSRP, Stagg represents extraordinary value compared to secondary market prices of $200-400.Beyond the tasting, the episode captures the camaraderie that makes bourbon special - sharing bottles, standing in line at releases, and planning adventures like the upcoming Kentucky Bourbon Festival tour. As bourbon availability increases across Buffalo Trace products, the community benefits from greater access to exceptional whiskeys like Stagg.Have you tried different Stagg batches? Colonel E. H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey is the 13th release to join the famed E. H. Taylor Collection from the Buffalo Trace Distillery. This rye is uncut and unfiltered. Even though little is known about the age or mashbill of this whiskey, it comes in at a whooping 126 proof. This release has been rumored for many years, but the fact that it is finally here is very exciting. However, the reviews on this one have been incredibly mixed with some expressing love and others describing it as lackluster. What do we think? You'll have to listen to find out. Once again, we are joined by our good friend Jason from Arsenic Culture. Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. is known as the father of the modern day bourbon industry. Not only is he a central figure in creation of what we now know and love as the Buffalo Trace Distillery, but he was also instrumental in the passing of the Bottled-in-Bond Act and even served as Mayor of Frankfort for 16 years. Though his beloved "EH Taylor" label has been owned by many different distilleries over the years, Sazerac purchased the label in 2009, effectively bringing Taylor home. This week, the guys uncork the once a year release of EH Taylor Barrel Proof Bourbon. This is the 12th release of its kind and clocks in at a whopping 131.1 proof. Will this bourbon be "hot to be hot" or will it delight our senses? Step into the world of sophistication and indulgence with Cigar Talk Episode. Hosted by Rob Jones, this week's episode is a journey through the finer things in life, featuring:
This week Matt, Chris, and I discuss 1987's Predator. We try a flight of whiskies once again starting with Jefferson's Tropics aged in Humidity. Then we compare a single barrel store pick of Frey Ranch rye from Hi_times wine cellars and a Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof rye store pick from Everson ROyce.
There's a lot to be said about the Stagg (formerly Jr.) brand: it's bold; it's brash; it's full-bodied; it's legendary. BUT, in yet another This is my Bourbon Podcast turn of insanity, we have NEVER reviewed one. No, not George T Stagg, the bigger, badder brother of Stagg. We're talking Baby Stagg. This week, Eric and Perry (hello that's me again) get into two of the three releases from 2023 and talk about the ongoing legacy and love of Stagg amongst bourbon drinkers. They also drink on something that may or may not even be released yet. Enjoy. The first review of 2024 is in, folks, and it couldn't be more appropriate that Larceny Barrel Proof A124 claims that honor. In the wake of an incredibly successful year for Heaven Hill with the Larceny Barrel Proof batches, we take a look at how far this line of products has come and whether they can continue the trend of excellent bourbon release after release after release. We also take the time to catch up on what we've been drinking recently, a somehow relevant Flying Blind, and discuss the newest big conspiracy sweeping bourbon nation: are there multiple batches of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C923, and if so, why? We've got a GREAT episode of TIMBP for you this week, full of the content that you've grown to know and love since we've been doing this crazy little thing known as podcasting! We start off with an exceptionally unique and special Flying Blind before diving into a revisit of a bottle that Eric may or may not even like in the first place, and we find ourselves reviewing a rye that Eric has had unopened in his basement for quite a while now.
