A Fortune 250 company's Salesman of the Year. Devoted husband. Faithful Catholic father and a 17-year addiction no one knew about, including his wife. John Edwards spent nearly two decades living two lives at once. He closed sales by day, chased down his dealer by afternoon, and kept the mask on at home so well that no one knew. It held together right up until the morning he sat in a jail cell on Good Friday with nothing left to control. This is the story of how a man hits the absolute bottom and finds out it was never the end of his story. Today, John Heinen and Devin Schadt sit down with John to talk about what actually drives addiction, why isolation is the devil's first move on a man, and how the wound of "am I enough" sends so many men looking for affirmation in all the wrong places. John Edwards is the founder of Pew Ministries and host of the Just a Guy in the Pew podcast. John Edwards was, for many years, a homeless drug addict and alcoholic. His dramatic conversion at rock bottom launched him into the craziest adventures of being repeatedly buried alive (seen by c.100 million people through the airwaves), walking across whole nations whilst carrying a cross, helping criminals and addicts out of their own prisons of addiction, and more. It is a stunning and heart-warming story.I'd love you to check out: walkingfree.org and get behind John's work.---❤️ Support our work in Burundi: greatlakesoutreach.org/inspired---▶️ Subscribe to us on YouTube

In this episode of The Career Transition Experts, we explore the powerful connection between your brain and your career decisions. Before diving into your job search, the most important question to ask yourself is not what you do, but why you do it. The brain has a dedicated "why network" that is directly linked to motivation, joy, and clarity, and when you pause to align your core values with your career goals, you give your brain the focus it needs to show up at its best. This simple but profound shift in thinking can transform not just how you search for your next role, but how you show up when you get there. Our guest, John Edwards, founder of The Edwards Group, is a leadership futurist with decades of experience in Fortune 100 organizations across HR, organizational development, and organizational psychology. In the first part of this episode of the Curious Realm, host Christopher Jordan welcomes Luigi Sciambarella, residential trainer at The Monroe Institute, a research association whose stated purpose is “advancing the global awakening of human consciousness.” We discuss the various training methods and classes provided by the Monroe Institute and how their groundbreaking work in the science of binaural beat technologies has helped change the way humans are connecting with their highest selves. In the second part of the episode, we welcome author and researcher Gretchen Cornwall to discuss collaborative work on the new book Codes of the Hidden King, which postulates that Sir Francis Bacon was the hidden son of Mary Stuart, raised in secrecy. Utilizing cryptography, symbolism in medieval carvings, and Masonic philosophy, Gretchen and her co-authors John Edwards and William Russell lay out a compelling argument which could well change the pages of Tudor history as we know them! In Psalm 81:10–14, God reminds His people that He is the One who brought them out of Egypt and invites them to open their mouths wide so He can fill them. Yet the passage also shows the sadness of a people who would not listen to God's voice and chose their own way instead. This scripture challenges us to reflect on how open we truly are to God's guidance and provision in our daily lives. It invites us to trust Him more deeply, listen more carefully, and walk in His ways so that we can experience the blessings and protection He desires for us.

It was an ambitious and forward-thinking move that nearly made history, but a sudden change by Twitter threw the plan off course.• Joined Twitter on January 2nd, 2007 when the platform was brand new • Nearly became the world's first political campaign to use Twitter with a senior figure, beaten only by John Edwards by two weeks • Used Twitter primarily to generate media coverage through innovation, successfully getting a full page in The Guardian • Planned to leverage Twitter's SMS functionality to send free text messages to 200,000 Labour Party members • Twitter discontinued their SMS service between printing campaign leaflets and their delivery to members • Key lesson: don't rely on free services for important campaign communications • Few complaints received due to Twitter's limited adoption at the timeIs your strategy still right in 2026? This week, Jake and Bob welcome John Edwards, a fellow guy in the pew, to share his raw and redemptive journey from addiction and secrecy to finding his identity in God. From outward success and hidden cocaine use to the devastating loss of his mother, John reveals how grief, shame, and a longing for affirmation shaped his choices—and nearly destroyed his marriage and family. He opens up about the masks he wore, the lies he believed about God as a harsh judge, and the panic attacks that finally exposed the prison he was living in. With honesty and courage, John recounts the night he chose confession over isolation, and how mercy began to break through years of self-reliance and despair. If you've ever felt abandoned by God or buried under your own failures, this conversation is an invitation to bring your whole story into the light. Key Points: The absence of emotional affirmation from John's father created a deep wound and a longing to feel seen. Addiction to drugs, alcohol, and pornography became a way to numb pain and pursue belonging and control. John describes living behind layers of "masks" to hide his addiction and shame from others. Marriage and fatherhood did not automatically heal John's wounds, and secrecy continued to damage family life. The death of John's mother shattered his emotional security and intensified his anger toward God. Fear of being exposed kept John trapped in lies and prevented him from asking for help. John's arrest and imprisonment brought total loss of control and the collapse of his false identities. In the jail cell, John experienced profound powerlessness and the end of his ability to hide. Surrendering control marked the moment when true freedom began. Jesus met John in his darkest place, revealing that He never abandoned him. Christ goes anywhere to restore broken hearts. It's Monday, Let's raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It's time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let's begin Exploring the Wine Glass! My friend Martha—my fun loving co-host of One Star Winery Reviews—recently made a trip out to Paso Robles. It was the first time we actually met in person and the conversation was effortless, the wine was flowing (along with a few margaritas), and the stories were endless. We even took a detour to see if we could speak to the beyond by seeing John Edwards live. While she was in town, we decided to take our friendship on the road. So, pour yourself a glass of something local, settle in, and listen to our guest appearance on Protecting What Matters, hosted by Barry Fisher. Please take a moment of your time to subscribe, rate and review Exploring the Wine Glass. It's completely free and is a great way to let other wine lovers know about the podcast. In this episode of Just a Guy in the Pew, John Edwards sits down with Pete Burak, Vice President of Renewal Ministries and author of the brand new book, A Man on Purpose: 10 Rules of Life from a Faithful Father. This week, Emily Bazelon, John Dickerson, and David Plotz revisit several favorite segments from Gabfests past to celebrate their 20th anniversary: the consequential and eye-opening “don't call the police” debate, the segment in which John shows Bill Clinton how to apologize with his characteristic eloquence and grace, and that time a data scientist definitively answered the important question: which host interrupts the others the most? For this week's Slate Plus bonus episode, Emily, John, and David revisit one more favorite segment from 20 years of the Political Gabfest: that time in 2008 they fought about the John Edwards love affair scandal. Russell & Robert meet Barbara Dawson for a behind the scenes visit to Francis Bacon's Studio, installed in Dublin's iconic Hugh Lane Gallery. The gallery is currently closed to the public for major renovations so we thought it would be a great opportunity to bring the studio and galleries to life with this exclusive audio tour, while closed to public. A visit to Francis Bacon's Studio at Hugh Lane Gallery gives you a unique opportunity to experience the working process of one of the twentieth century's greatest artists.Born in Dublin in 1909, Bacon grew up in county Kildare. He left home at the age of sixteen and eventually settled in London where he established himself as one of the leading international artists of his generation. Bacon moved into 7 Reece Mews, London, in 1961 where he lived and worked until his death in 1992.In 1998, director Barbara Dawson secured the donation of Francis Bacon's studio from the artist's heir, John Edwards, and Brian Clarke, executor of the Estate of Francis Bacon. Her vision was to remove the entire studio including all of the items without exception, as well as the architectural features, and relocate the studio as it was, to the Hugh Lane Gallery. In the August of that year, as project manager, she assembled a team of conservators, curators, and archaeologists to carry out the move. The archaeologists made survey and elevation drawings of the small studio, mapping out the spaces and locations of all the objects, while the conservators prepared the works for travel and curators tagged and packed each of the items, including the dust. The walls, doors floor and ceiling were also removed.Follow @TheHughLane and visit: https://hughlane.ie/arts_artists/francis-bacons-studio/ Hosted on Acast. The Bondi Beach shooting has seen state, territory and federal politicians agree that Australia's already stringent gun laws need to be reviewed and strengthened. The National Firearms Agreement was introduced after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre to standardise rules about who could own a gun - and why. But experts on firearms legislation say some holes in the rules have become apparent. In New South Wales, applications to have a firearms licence are handled by the Gun Registry - which came under intense scrutiny after a tragic murder suicide in 2018, when an estranged father, John Edwards, fatally shot his teenage children. He had a history of domestic violence which hadn't been flagged to the Gun Registry. Not all the changes recommended after the Edwards inquest have been implemented. Deborah Groarke spoke to Maya Arguello who's a law and criminology expert at the Swinburne University of Technology.
Nick Anderson/Raw Story On this week's show... The Donald Trump Hunger Games begin with the administration doing as little as possible to comply with a court-ordered continuation of SNAP Benefits. For millions of Americans, it means going hungry … just not quite as hungry as Trump had wanted. The Trump shutdown is officially the longest in U.S. history, surpassing the record of 35 days set during the first Trump term. With Trump's administration failing on the economy, foreign policy, healthcare and basic competence in the background, Democrats sweep the handful of off-year elections including flipping Virginia's governor's office and holding on in New Jersey. We'll do a post-mortem on the election, and the impact on Michigan politics, with former Obama Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri. Two updates on Michigan's congressional races: a familiar name enters the GOP primary to replace John James, and new polling shows Lansing-area Congressman Tom Barrett trailing two relatively unknown Democrats. A former top aide to former state House Speaker Lee Chatfield pleads guilty to assorted corruption charges ... and agrees to testify against his former boss. The latest political shocker nationally: Marjorie Taylor Greene is talking about running for President. Of the United States. Yes, that MTG! And the Subway Sandwich Terrorism trial has ended with an acquittal. Sean Dunn was charged with misdemeanor assault after hitting a federal agent with a “sub-style sandwich.” Apparently ICE agents consider mustard a weapon of mass destruction...but the prosecution's case, it turns out, was toast. Dunn reportedly relished the decision. There were, of course, a lot of significant elections on Tuesday. Joining the post-election analysis is guest commentator Jennifer Palmieri. Her credentials include three years as Barack Obama's Communications Director and then Director of Communications for the Hillary Clinton 2016 presidential campaign. Before her service at the White House, she was the National Press Secretary for the 2004 John Edwards presidential campaign and for the Democratic National Committee in 2002, after a brief time at the advocacy group Americans for Gun Safety. She served in the Clinton Administration as Special Assistant to White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta, deputy director of Scheduling and Advance, and finally as a Deputy White House Press Secretary. More recently she co-hosted the political documentary series "The Circus" on Showtime with John Heilman, Alex Wagner and Mark McKinnon. drewsheneman.substack.com

Barrett examines the series of questionable player deals Houston GM Spec Richardson orchestrated during his tenure and attempts to undue the damage to show that with merely competent management, Houston's 1971 team may well have been something special indeed. Why You're Always Busy But Never Fully Caught Up On average, its estimated that the typical worker receives one email every six minutes. This constant stream of emails and instant messages throughout the day continuously pulls people away from their main tasks and leads to workout burnout. Computer science and communication expert, Cal Newport joins us to break down the main issues and possible solutions. Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda (1490-1573) was a Spanish humanist, philosopher, and theologian of the Spanish Renaissance. He is mainly known for his participation in a famous debate with Bartolomé de las Casas in Valladolid, Spain, in 1550–1551. The debate centered on the legitimacy of the conquest and colonization of America by the Spanish Empire and on the treatment of the Native Americans. The main philosophical referents of Sepulveda were Aristotle, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Roman law and Christian theology. These influences allowed him to argue for the cultural superiority and domination of the Spanish over the Native Americans during the period of the conquest. Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss Catherine of Aragon (1485-1536), the youngest child of the newly dominant Spanish rulers Ferdinand and Isabella. When she was 3, her parents contracted her to marry Arthur, Prince of Wales, the heir to the Tudor king Henry VII in order to strengthen Spain's alliances, since Henry's kingdom was a longstanding trade partner and an enemy of Spain's greatest enemy, France. For the next decade Catherine had the best humanist education available, preparing her for her expected life as queen and drawing inspiration from her warrior mother. She arrived in London to be married when she was 15 but within a few months she was widowed, her situation uncertain and left relatively impoverished for someone of her status. Rather than return home, Catherine stayed and married her late husband's brother, Henry VIII. In her view and that of many around her, she was an exemplary queen and, even after Henry VIII had arranged the annulment of their marriage for the chance of a male heir with Anne Boleyn, Catherine continued to consider herself his only queen. With Lucy Wooding Langford Fellow and Tutor in History at Lincoln College, University of Oxford and Professor of Early Modern History at Oxford Maria Hayward Professor of Early Modern History at the University of SouthamptonAnd Gonzalo Velasco Berenguer Lecturer in Global Medieval and Early Modern History at the University of BristolProducer: Simon Tillotson In Our Time is a BBC Studios Audio ProductionReading list:Michelle Beer, Queenship at the Renaissance Courts of Britain: Catherine of Aragon and Margaret Tudor, 1503-1533 (Royal Historical Society, 2018)G.
