Getting more people into work is a key target of the Labour Government in Westminster. Wales has the highest rate of economic inactivity in the UK. The UK Government have recently launched a trailblazer programme with the aim of boosting employment support. Denbighshire, Blaenau Gwent, and Neath Port Talbot have all been chosen as pilot areas. To discuss the causes of economic activity, and how to tackle it, James and Fliss are joined by Public Health Wales' National Director of Health and Wellbeing Professor Jim McManus and Dr Edward Thomas Jones, a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Bangor University. They also speak to Wales' Westminster Correspondent Ewan Murrie about his interview with Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch.

Today we're heading to Denbighshire in Wales to meet dairy and beef farmer Huw Foulkes. Huw was brought up on a dairy farm but was initially put off farming when he saw his father having to sell his herd. He got the farming bug at college though and ended up re-establishing a dairy on his family's farm with a micro-dairy of 15 red polls. For his beef he crosses Welsh black heifers with Wagyu bulls. The whole system uses regenerative techniques. Huw also works on another local dairy farm to supplement his income.Image credit: Huw FoulkesMeet the Farmers is produced by RuralPod Media, the only specialist rural podcast production agency. Please note that this podcast does not constitute advice. In the most recent episode of the Welsh Witch podcast I am joined by Andrew Philip Smith, Author of the book "Pages From a Welsh Cunning Man's Book: Magic and Fairies in Nineteenth-Century Wales", which only recently released. In this book Andrew explores the lost "Llyfr Cyfrin" (mystic/secret book) of a Denbighshire cunning man, which included spells to call upon and conjure the Tylwyth Teg, Welsh fairies. Here's what I had to say about the book in an endorsement: "Anyone with an interest in magic, folklore, or even Welsh history in general will find something in this book...read it and revel in the magic of Wales' traditional folk magical culture". During this interview we explore the interplay between fairies and magicians within a Welsh cultural context. Glossary: Llyfr Cyfrin - A "mystic book of secrets", a book kept by a cunning person, where they recorded all their methods and knowledge. Byd y Dyn Hysbys - A book by Kate Bosse Griffiths, published in 1977, which not only explored Welsh cunning craft, but also the Llyfr Cyfrin of an unnamed cunning man from Denbighshire Tylwyth Teg - the name given to fairies in Welsh. Translated, it means 'the fair family'. Helen Mark joins a group of asylum seekers as they help with a tree-planting project in Denbighshire. She hears how - without a car, and with rural buses both scarce and expensive - refugees rarely get access to the countryside. The group of people she meets have travelled to Wales from Liverpool for the day, but come originally from all over the world. She hears about the experiences of four of them - from Iraq, Iran, Namibia and Togo. They spend the day working alongside local conservation volunteers from the nearby village of Tremeirchion, sharing food, stories and songs. The project is organised by the charity Action Asylum, which has joined forces with the North Wales Wildlife Trust to get more than two thousand trees planted on former farmland near Offa's Dyke path. For the asylum seekers, who are not allowed to work while their cases are being assessed, it's a chance to contribute and do something constructive. With incredible views of the mountains in the distance and the Welsh coast spread out beneath them, Helen hears how working in the countryside is beneficial for both the environment and the refugees' mental health.Produced by Emma Campbell

Thursday night LIVE, The Outer Realm welcomes all the way from the UK, special guest Gari Jones. HE will be discussing his new book " The Denbigh Lights – A Truthful Argument For The Existence Of UFO" About Our Guest: Gari Jones has been witnessing strange paranormal and supernatural events for as long as he can remember. Since childhood, he has been curious about the strange and wonderful world around him. He knows the UFO/ET phenomenon is real because he has had several personal UFO sightings. He has researched the subject for the last 17 years and decided to investigate cases involving these strange and highly unusual crafts 8 years ago. Without fear of being mocked, he has dedicated himself to discovering who and what is out there—or perhaps sharing this planet with us About the Book: The Denbigh Lights – A Truthful Argument For The Existence Of UFOs by Gari Jones is a detailed account of a UFO sighting that happened in a quiet village in Denbighshire, North Wales on January 3rd, 2012. A family of four in the early hours of the morning at approximately 3 am saw from the upstairs window of their home during a windy, rainy, stormy night, a mystical oval outline that had bright lights coming from its exterior. Video recordings were made of this object and the local police in the area were also called to try to ascertain what the object might be. Shortly after a local UFO researcher did an initial investigation and discovered some initial evidence that he was convinced that there was no rational explanation for this sighting. Six years later, the author (Gari Jones) came across the case and in April 2018 conducted an in-depth investigation and put together a video report concluding that indeed this was a genuine UFO sighting with great corroborating evidence. This book details the full investigation carried out by all concerned. Photo analysis of the video taken that night and one-to-one interviews with all of the witnesses involved. Gari Jones puts together a powerful argument for his conclusion that the object witnessed that night in 2012 remains UNIDENTIFIED and UNEXPLAINED.

All Things Considered

A programme to mark Mothering Sunday that has our presenter’s name all over it; Mary Stallard explores the relevance and significance for us today of Jesus’s mother, Mary of Nazareth. We hear about some of the long-standing traditions that have evolved around Mothering Sunday. It’s a day on which many church communities will honour their mothers and grandmothers as well as Mary herself. During the programme we hear from both Roman Catholics and Protestants about what Mary means to them. We also learn how Mary is the inspiration for contemporary religious movements and prayer groups. While Mary is loved by many to the extent of prayers offered to her, she has become a divisive person for others. Certainly, the ‘Magnificat’ - Mary’s poetic expression upon hearing she would be the mother of Jesus - has been seen as a powerful text. But with lines such as ‘he hath put down the mighty from their seat’, it can also make for an uncomfortable message. Finally we consider another text - the ‘Stabat Mater’, Mary’s outpouring of grief at the foot of the cross upon which Jesus is being crucified, and explore whether it has anything to say to us during the present pandemic. Our guests are the Very Revd Sarah Rowland-Jones OBE, Dean of St David’s Cathedral; the Revd Dr Gareth Leyshon and Revd Fr Matthew Roache-Saunders; Lucy Williams from Cwmbran and a member of ‘Focolare’, Revd Fr Damian Jackson SJ from St Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre in Denbighshire, and the Revd Dr Jennie Hurd, Chair of the Synod Cymru district of the Methodist Church. Music in the programme includes extracts from ‘Ave Maria’ by Robert Parsons, The St David’s Service by Neil Cox, ‘Stabat Mater’ by Giovanni Pergolesi and popular Marian hymns including ‘Daily daily’, and ‘Immaculate Mary’.

It was lovely to spend time talking to Sam on her sunny farm in Denbighshire in North Wales. Sam, who met her husband, Alex whilst backpacking around Australia and Thailand came back to the farm a few years ago. Both had been diving instructors in Thailand and had seen the destruction and pollution being created by humans. On coming back to Wales, to take over the running of the family farm, Sam has taken on the gauntlet of 'If we want to be SEE the change, we need to BE the change'. Sam is building up her flock of sheep, and her herd of goats to work with the farm, not against it. Living alongside a river that floods annually, she is reclaiming tenanted land back along the river and returning it to meadow land, to ease erosion and take advantage of the nutritious silt that is left behind. Being curious, asking questions, working on other farms and taking advantage of training by Farming Connect has been invaluable. Sam's passion for what she has achieved and will achieve is inspiring! On January 23, 1974, villagers in the community of Llandrillo in the Edeirnion area of Denbighshire, northern Wales, experienced a tremendous jolt and noise a little after 8:30 p.m., akin to a magnitude 3.5 earthquake.  Highly strange, colored lights were seen over the surrounding hills at the same time.  Another unusual occurrence was that the British Military was immediately on the scene as if they were tracking the "geological event" in real time.  The official Ministry of Defence conclusion was that the event was caused by a simultaneous earthquake and meteor impact, with the meteor being the cause of the freakish light show.  However, a meteor impact that would cause a shock of that magnitude would have left a visible crater, which was not found.  And of course, there were reports by witnesses on the scene of the military carting off bodies and wreckage.  Does this sound familiar to you?  It did enough to some tabloid papers at the time who dubbed it, "The Roswelsh Incident."  What's your conclusion?
