Host Jeff Plumblee interviews Dennis Young, Principal Consultant and CEO of YCA LLC. From his experiences as a US Marine, mining, construction, IT, and more, Dennis explains his view of project management and how he works only in planning and control, why he schedules from the front instead of working back from a deadline, and what the most important (and timeless) skillsets are to be successful in high-pressure environments of project management. Leadership and project general knowledge are the two most critical skills a project manager needs. Dennis explains how to push the worry curve to the left, and shares experiences of working on major NYC buildings and forestalling a tenancy disaster at One World Trade.Listen in to learn the essentials of large-scale project planning. Key Takeaways: Dennis tells of his career from electrical engineering, the U.S. Marines, the mining and steel industry, and going into business for himself in project management. He lists some of his clients and client industries. Dennis reads the definition of project management and explains what project management success and project excellence mean. He states the importance of time in project work. Dennis explains his process. It starts with acquiring a team. He tells why he front-schedules projects instead of back-scheduling from a deadline and he defines the lowest-cost way to deliver a quality-to-spec to a task. What is the worry curve and how do you push it to the left? Dennis tells what he looks for in a project manager. A leader needs good communication skills and strong content knowledge. Dennis shares his experiences, including working on One World Trade and other NYC buildings. How does Dennis get work? Word-of-mouth! The specific project planning software is not as important as building the model, planning, and executing the project. Dennis tells how he uses Post-It® Notes and why he doesn't have PMP Certification. Dennis gives his final advice to project managers. EVERYTHING I’VE HEARD Present BILLY BOGUS as 4th guest mix. - Billy (real name Niccolò Bruni), Pizzico Records' founder, started as a DJ in the mid 90s when he was only 18: he was a squatter and he used to arrange unusual performances with endless rotation of FSOL & Klaus Schulze music, filming everybody with a VHS camera and broadcasting everything in the community, creating peculiar vibes and feelings all around. Today his approach to DJing has the same feeling, also with contemporary dance music. Rare vinyls, mp3s, scratchy CDs, the format doesn’t matter, the central themes are what is important to him: italo disco, slow motion funk, trippy techno, every kind of dance music is like a magic mean to a shiny groove and he aims to spread this energy among the people via his own label, Pizzico. Pizzico was founded in 2007, among the others they have discovered and produced artists such as Jonathan Kusuma (Space System), Ichisan, Discodromo, Kid Who, Sare Havlicek, MA Spaventi and many more. After remixing the legendary band The Units and Dennis Young from Liquid Liquid, Billy’s career as a producer began to grow steadily: singles, remixes, three official albums and a jazzy under the moniker of Strata-Gemma. The word about his work was on everyone's lips, including household names like Laurent Garnier and Dimitri From Paris. His tracks have been regularly played by disco legends like Dj Harvey, Stevie Kotey, Gilles Peterson, Ivan Smagghe and Bill Brewster. - More about Billy Bogus : Discogs : http://www.discogs.com/artist/1456389-Billy-Bogus Soundcloud : https://soundcloud.com/billy-bogus Pizzico Records : https://pizzicorecords.bandcamp.com/ - Tracklist : 01. This episode is an ode to collaborations and their importance in the everyday creative practice. The first and most significant treated in this episode is the life-long partnership between Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius, the two prolific pioneers of teutonic electronic music and fathers of Krautrock. They’ve been working together, since the early 70’s, making music as a duo as well as teaming up with Conrad Schnitzler (under the name Kluster), Michael Rother (forming Harmonia), Conny Plank, Brian Eno (in Harmonia 76), Gerd Beerbohm, Karl Renziehausen and many more. The sonic heritage that they created influenced the subsequent generations of german artists, including some who are featured in this episode. Last but not least, this tracklist is a brief extract from the rich catalogue of the defunct Hamburg based label Sky Records, born from the experience of Brain that today evolved into Bureau B. The episode features: Dennis Young, Eno Moebius Roedelius, Hearts No Static, Roedelius & Schneider, Asmus Tietchens, Conrad Schnitzler, Cluster, Moebius & Beerbohm, Harald Grosskopf, Vono, Faust and Qluster.
Why would a secular foundation enter into a partnership with faith organizations? In the words of one our guests, Dr. Brenda Richardson Rowe, "Mental health is truly everybody's business, and when you look at the history specifically of the African-American culture, you see that the foundation of all of our information comes from our pastors and our faith leaders." In 2014, the Hogg Foundation launched a groundbreaking new initiative; the African-American Faith-Based Education and Awareness Initiative (AAFBEAI). The foundation awarded grants to 11 faith-based organizations to start or strengthen dialogues about mental health—both within their respective places of worship and in surrounding communities. The AAFBEAI has recently come to a close. Those who have taken part are proud of what they've achieved. Joining us for a look back are Dr. Brenda Richardson Rowe, a licensed professional counselor at Harmony Counseling Center in Dallas, and Dr. Dennis Young, pastor at Missouri City Baptist Church in Missouri City, TX. Ep 9. In 1990, 19-year-old Robert Shafer and 16-year-old David Steinmeyer handed themselves into police in St Charles, Missouri and confessed to the killings of two men; Dennis Young and Jerry Parker. Shafer and Steinmeyer claimed at first that they had hitched a ride with the victims who they claimed attacked them and that they killed in self-defence. However, two years later, in July 1992, Robert Shafer confessed to killing both men and requested the death penalty. Despite having requested the death penalty, just three weeks after arriving on death row, Shafer sought the help of an attorney to appeal his sentencing. Eventually in 2004 he succeeded in his appeal after it was ruled that he wasn’t mentally able to comprehend the consequences of representing himself in 1993. He is currently serving a life sentence. David Steinmeyer received a 12-and-a-half-year sentence for his part in the crime. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
They like to claim that their legislation and policy decisions are based on facts, on evidence and on science. But the gun legislation introduced by Justin Trudeau's Liberals this week is based on emotions and obfuscation. Veteran researcher Dennis Young has been asking the government for information on the evidence that their gun legislation would keep Canadians safer and found they had nothing.
