The Unmute Yourself - The Podcast is an exceptional podcast that offers valuable insights and practical guidance for professional women. Nancy, the host, is incredibly skilled at breaking down complex subjects and presenting them in an easy-to-understand manner. Her suggestions are not only practical but also spot on, making her a pleasure to listen to. She brings a level of personability, intelligence, and helpfulness that sets her apart from other podcasts.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is how Nancy and Beth tackle important topics with humor, wit, and logic. They seamlessly integrate their own personal experiences into their shows, keeping the audience engaged and interested in what they have to say next. Their real-world guidance is straightforward and applicable to both professional and personal life settings. Applying their advice has truly made a difference in my own life.

Another great aspect of this podcast is Nancy's authenticity. While other podcasts may offer generic advice or impossibly big tasks, Nancy brings her genuine self and extensive experience to her audience. She cuts through the noise with practical ways for women to advocate for themselves. From eliminating self-defeating language in business discourse to negotiation skills, she highlights small changes that make a significant impact.

However, as with any podcast, there are a few potential downsides. Some listeners may find the episodes shorter than desired since each one is focused and concise. Additionally, while Nancy covers a wide range of topics relevant to professional women, it would be beneficial to have more guest speakers on the show to bring in diverse perspectives and expertise.

In conclusion, The Unmute Yourself - The Podcast is an invaluable resource for professional women seeking empowerment and practical advice. Nancy's ability to communicate effectively combined with her authentic approach sets this podcast apart from others in its field. Whether you're looking for guidance on speaking up at work or navigating personal relationships, this podcast provides tools that will help you level up your game. I highly recommend giving it a listen and incorporating Nancy's wisdom into your life.

How to Trust Your Intuition & When to Power Through Your Fear EP140

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 29, 2025 21:05

Today's episode is very near and dear to my heart posters, and it's because the #1 question I am asked is, “What's one piece of advice you would give your younger self? And every single time I'm asked this question; my answer is always the same.  Trust your instincts. Intuition, “gut feeling”, instincts – whatever you want to call it – YOU ALWAYS KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU.  And today, Podsters, we're diving into the science behind intuition and how you can use this natural instinct to further your success. Here's the science:  Your brain is constantly processing information, even when you're not consciously aware of it (even while you're dreaming or binge-watching Netflix).   Patterns, people, behaviors, facts, thoughts, dreams, all of it.   So, when you have this “feeling” or instinct and you feel like it's coming out of nowhere – it's not!   Your subconscious is stepping up and stepping in to help you make these  decisions based on everything you've experienced, felt, and learned up until now.  Even without your knowing. You know that “gut feeling”?  Also backed by science.  Your  stomach is full of neurons (100 million of them, to be exact) that work with your mind to help you make decisions, often before you even realize what's going on. Whether it's choosing a new hire, making a tough call at work, or deciding if that new job opportunity feels right, your gut is feeling the situation before your head catches up.   Wild, right? In today's episode, we talk about when you should trust you're the feeling and when you should toss the feeling with a little game I call Trust or Toss? Some of the best times to TRUST are when your safety is concerned, if it's related to your health, a person who feels “off” to you, and the general bad vibes we sometimes feel.  If something feels off Posters, it probably is. When to Toss is not as obvious so let's make sure you're not mistaking genuine instinct with simply being uncomfortable.  If you're feeling iffy because you're stepping out of your comfort zone, this could be a self-imposed roadblock you've created to keep you feeling safe. So, how do you balance trusting your gut with all the noise around you?   Learning to trust your instincts is a skill, and like any other skill, you can develop and master it over time.  And today's episode is the first step as we share insights to help you step into that intuition and trust that you always know what's right for you. Stop Organizing, Start Living: Why “Systems” Aren't The Answer EP139

Let's face it, Podsters, every time you try to organize your life, it feels like you've been sold a cookie-cutter solution that only makes things worse. Systems that look great in theory tend to crash and burn when faced with the reality of OUR lives.  It's like trying to squeeze into a dress that was made for a different body, except now we're drowning in paper, emails, and photos we don't even remember taking. Cue the overwhelm. Today I've brought in an expert, Joann Krall, who LIVES to help people like us organize our lives.  We're getting real about why most organizational hacks fail, why cookie-cutter systems are a total waste of time, and how to stop beating ourselves up for being “disorganized.” Here's what you'll enjoy hearing about today: Overwhelm, anyone?: The root of your organizational crisis isn't your lack of time—it's your lack of the right system. When the overwhelm kicks in, it's because you're trying to use someone else's formula, and it's just not working for you. Let. It. Go.: If a system isn't working for you, cut it loose. Life's too short to try to force a square peg into a round hole, right? Stop pretending you're someone you're not. Cookie-cutter solutions are NOT for you. We're diving into the mess, not avoiding it. Purge with Purpose: Don't waste time psychoanalyzing yourself before you declutter. Make a quick decision—focus on what you're getting rid of, not the why. You'll have plenty of time for that later, trust me. My new "Photo Friday" ritual: 20 minutes every Friday to clear out the 10,000 photos sitting in my iPhone so I can actually enjoy the photos I have taken De-Clutter in Chunks: The “Chipping Away” method is your new best friend. Forget about doing it all at once. Break it down into manageable micro-sections that you can knock out without wanting to pull your hair out. Reality Check: New systems aren't working for you because—brace yourself—they're not YOUR systems. Time to create systems that actually suit you. How about we stop buying into someone else's idea of “organized” and start creating systems that fit OUR life, OUR vibe, and OUR unique personality? Today, Podsters, we get real with your systems and get ‘er done on OUR terms. Are you still making the same tired New Year's resolutions? Year after year, you swear this is the year you'll change… but then you find yourself right back where you started by February? Well, guess what, Podsters? This episode is about to flip your New Year's resolution game on its head. We're getting real and we're getting tactical—because it's time to break the cycle. In this episode, we're diving into three simple (not-so-simple-to-execute) things you need to let go of in 2025 to start thriving at work, in your relationships, and in your life. Time to cut the cord on those one-sided connections—whether it's friends, family, clients, or coworkers. You know the ones: the relationships where you're putting in 110% and getting back... nada. Zilch. Zero. If you're putting more energy into a relationship than you're getting back, it's time for a serious reevaluation. Are you ready to stop carrying the emotional weight of everyone else? Because you deserve better. No, we're not telling you to lower your standards. But if you've been holding on to unrealistic expectations for yourself (or others) that are just setting you up for frustration and disappointment... girl, it's time to let that go. The constant cycle of “I should be doing this, I should be doing that” will only drain your soul. Instead, let go of that heavy burden and create space for realistic, aligned goals. Trust us—you'll be a lot more productive (and a lot less stressed). Let's talk about the s-word: Should. "I should be exercising more." "I should be more organized." "I should be doing XYZ." Sound familiar? Well, guess what? "Should" comes with a side of guilt, shame, and obligation—and it doesn't do you any favors. Time to swap "should" for “want to” or “would like to.” It's a game-changer, trust us. It's about moving from a mindset of shame to one of intentional action. So, stop repeating the same tired resolutions year after year. Instead, make space for real change by letting go of what's holding you back. Focus on action. Focus on the things that will actually get you closer to where you want to be in 2025. It's time to break the patterns and step into your power. Buckle up, Podsters. This is about to get real. Last year, I threw a big New Year's Day party, and this whole year ended up being way more non-stop than I wanted. So this time, I'm switching it up: I signed up for a two-hour yoga workshop on January 1st. I kept resisting it, fearing something else might come along, but I decided to commit. For me, it's about choosing ease over constant action, so I can head into 2025 with more balance. Maybe you want to host a brunch, run a 5K, or just relax on the couch. Whatever it is, I'm suggesting you think about how your New Year's Day plans could set the tone for the entire year. Let's be intentional about it. Do These Three Things to Beat Overwhelm This Holiday Season EP134

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 11, 2024 26:32

Alright, Podsters, we all know the holiday season can get chaotic, but it doesn't have to leave you feeling stressed, overextended, or completely overwhelmed. So let's break down what each of these really means: Stress: This one feels like pressure. It's temporary and signals that you're working through a challenge. You're still functional, but juggling a lot. Overextended: This is the hard truth—it's when you've taken on more than you can handle. Something's got to give. Overwhelmed: The emotional rollercoaster. Overwhelm is consuming and can cause you to shut down entirely. It's the point where you just can't take another step. Recognizing where you are on this spectrum is key—it helps you navigate the holiday season with more intention and clarity. So now that we know what these are, what can we do about it? Here are three simple steps to take back your peace as you approach overwhelm: Step 1: Sit in StillnessTake 5-10 minutes to simply pause and breathe. This moment of stillness interrupts the cycle of overwhelm and allows you to reset and regain perspective. Just be for a few minutes—you'll thank yourself later. Step 2: Map Out Your CalendarGrab your calendar and write down every single commitment—work, personal, social, and even the "not-so-fun" stuff. Now, here's the big move: cancel THREE things. Yes, you heard me right—THREE! Let go of tasks or events that don't truly matter and focus on what does. Prioritize YOU. Step 3: Block Time for YourselfThis one's essential: carve out a few hours just for you—no agenda, no to-do list, just pure YOU. Whether it's reading a book, taking a nap, or simply doing nothing, this time is non-negotiable for your well-being.  And if you choose to spend that time wrapping presents or getting caught up – go for it! By making space for what truly matters, you'll protect your energy and avoid that dreaded year-end burnout. Let's simplify, streamline, and enjoy the season together. The Glass Cliff: Is It a Step Up or a Set Up? EP130

Podsters, let's get real: ever notice how women leaders often get handed the wheel just as the ship is sinking? Every time we see a woman being tapped to lead during a crisis, it's like, “She's got this! She'll turn it around!” But here's the thing—are they set up to succeed or just positioned for scrutiny? Today, we're diving into the phenomenon of the “glass cliff.” Unlike the glass ceiling that keeps women from reaching leadership, the glass cliff is when women finally do get those top roles…but often in times of major crisis, where the odds are stacked against them. Think of Marissa Mayer at Yahoo, Linda Yaccarino at X, or even Kamala Harris navigating national chaos. These are smart, talented women—so why do they so often get handed a mess to clean up? We're unpacking why this happens and, most importantly, what you can do if you find yourself in a glass cliff situation. Here are three crucial questions to ask before taking on any role that feels a little too high-stakes: What's the realistic chance of success? Look at the resources, the timeline, and the state of the organization. Why me? Are you being chosen because they believe in you, or because they're hoping for a Hail Mary? Understanding the “why” can give you valuable insight. What's the personal impact if I don't succeed? From your career trajectory to your mental health, weigh the risks and rewards for you—because this is about more than just your resume. Remember to listen to that inner voice, too. If the role doesn't feel right, trust yourself. Just because you're offered a high-profile role doesn't mean you have to take it, especially if it seems more like a setup than an opportunity. So buckle up, Podsters! We're digging into the glass cliff—how to spot it, navigate it, and protect yourself while still seizing the career you deserve. The Strategic Pause: Your Secret Weapon for a Total Reboot EP129

Hey there, Podsters! With the holiday season gearing up, it's that time of year when the to-do lists get longer than a CVS receipt. Goals, gatherings, gift wrapping, and maybe a touch of seasonal burnout - sound familiar? So, what's the antidote to all this chaos? A strategic pause. Nope, this isn't about dropping everything and running off to an island (though that sounds amazing, right?). This is about intentionally stepping back, not to quit but to realign and regroup. Think of it as a refresh button for your life and career. Like a solid eight hours of sleep for your ambitions, a strategic pause recharges you. It's your chance to recalibrate, reconnect with your purpose, and figure out your next moves - minus the overwhelm. Let's talk strategy: My favorite way to do this is with a “love, hate, meh” list. Yup, it's exactly what it sounds like. What lights you up about your work? What drains the life out of you? And what's just… meh? This exercise cuts through the noise and gives you crystal-clear direction on what deserves your energy and what needs to be shown the door (or delegated, stat). Athletes don't build resilience by training nonstop; they do it through strategic recovery. And guess what? The same goes for us. Setting boundaries, protecting your mental headspace, and honoring downtime isn't just self-care; it's smart. And here's a big one: revisit your “why.” Our motivations evolve—just like we do. What you wanted three years ago might not be your driver anymore, and that's perfectly okay. Priorities shift, and so should your game plan. So, if you're caught in a hamster wheel of hustle, this is your sign to take a breather. Hit pause, refocus, and make sure you're running toward what you love, not away from what exhausts you. Tell me, Podsters: When are you scheduling your strategic pause? Should I stay or should I go? We've all been there Podsters, feeling like something's not quite right. Yet not sure if we're having a rough day or if it's time to make a big change. For me, this feeling is unsettling - kind of like driving the car when it starts making a strange noise. Uh-oh. Is this bad? Is it nothing? Should I turn up the radio and ignore? Should I take this seriously and pull over to check under the hood? As I said...very unsettling. This happens in our lives as well and here's the thing: If you're not listening to your instincts, you're missing out on some of the best advice you'll ever get, from the person who knows you better than anyone - YOU. What if that gut feeling isn't coming through loud and clear? Well then it's time to really listen to your loved ones. They know you well, and sometimes they see things about us that we can't (or won't) see ourselves. Years ago when I was working in a very toxic, unhealthy work environment, it was a comment from my step-son that got me to stop and truly think. If your warning light is going off, or you're hearing some knocking and pinging in your head; it's up to YOU to figure out if you should stick it out or start making moves. Here are three tell-tale signs that can help you to find the clarity you need: 1️⃣ You're Constantly Behind-Like, All. The. Time. 2️⃣ You Feel Yourself Changing—and Not for the Better 3️⃣ Someone You Trust Says, “Get Over It” Now that you know the signs, here's what to do about it: 1️⃣ Give Yourself Some Grace. 2️⃣ Reevaluate Your Choices. 3️⃣ Phone a Friend. When you realize it's time to go, celebrate that awareness. Take a breath, give yourself grace, and remember you don't need to rush into the next thing. Recognizing the need for change is the first step toward making it happen.

Podsters, today we're talking about the perils of being "overly agreeable" (a.k.a. people-pleasing) in leadership. We've all been there, right? That moment when you nod along in a meeting, even when your gut is screaming, "Seriously?!" It's called being "overly agreeable" (a nicer way to say people-pleasing), and while it sounds harmless, it's about as useful as a screen door on a submarine when it comes to stepping up as a leader. And this applies to everyone Podsters, whether you're running the show, climbing the ladder, or running your own business; bending over backward to keep everyone happy can cause more chaos than it cures. Spoiler alert: it's not your job to be everyone's emotional support person. So, what's a recovering people-pleaser to do? Here are three ways to kick the overly agreeable habit to the curb: Keep It Real: Be Authentically You, Even When It's UncomfortableKnow who you are and the kind of leader you want to be—then stick to it like glitter on a craft project. Someone on your team sending late-night emails like they're auditioning for a role in "Burnout: The Musical"? That doesn't mean you need to chime in at 2 AM. You get to set the tone for your team and you don't have to let someone else's chaos become your status quo. Business Isn't Personal (Unless We're Talking Coffee Choices)Of course, you want a happy team - we all do! So let's make sure you don't let your quest for workplace harmony turn into a free pass for bad behavior. One of my clients made the mistake of being overly agreeable with a drama-inducing employee, which basically made the workplace a soap opera. The result? Delays, disarray, and a whole lot of "Why does this keep happening?" IT IS YOUR JOB to address the bad behavior, set clear expectations and then hold people accountable. Rip the Band-Aid Off: Address Issues Before They Get WeirdYes, those tough conversations are about as fun as a root canal, but avoiding them is like letting a leak drip until you're knee-deep in water. One of my clients learned this the hard way by avoiding a tricky employee. She was worried that calling out the behavior wouldn't seem "respectful." The result? She lost credibility and contributed to the chaos on her team. Respect isn't about making everyone feel warm and fuzzy—sometimes it's about having the confidence to say, "This isn't working, and we need to fix it." At the end of the day, leadership isn't about making everyone like you. It's about creating a space where the work, and your team can thrive! And while a lot of it is super helpful, let's be real: not all feedback comes from a place of positive intent. So, how do you figure out which advice to embrace and which to toss straight into the metaphorical trash? Today, we're unpacking how to process feedback without letting it impact your mental health. The key? Understand where the feedback is coming from. First, assess the other person's values, intent, and perspective. Are they offering insights to support your growth? Hey there, Podsters! Quick question for you: If doctors, pro athletes, and scientists use visualization to transform health, boost performance, and hit major goals, why aren't we doing the same for our own lives? It's time to change that, Podsters and that's exactly what we are going to do today. Today, we're talking about the magic of acting as if you've already achieved your goals. That's right - and this isn't just woo-woo —it's backed by science. Whether it's performance coaches with athletes or doctors guiding patients to better health, the data's clear: When you act like you're already living the life of your dreams, your subconscious gets on board and starts making moves in that direction. So, how do you do it? First, get crystal clear on your goals. Don't just say, “I want a better career” or “I want to be healthier.” Nope - we're talking specific details here. Visualize what your day-to-day life looks like when you've hit that goal. What are you wearing? Who are you talking to? How are you feeling? Get all up in those details, and watch your brain start rewiring itself for success. Why does this work? Simple: confirmation bias. When you start acting as if you've already got the job, the lifestyle, the whatever it is you're after, your brain begins pulling in people, situations, and opportunities that match that belief. You stop waiting for life to happen and start living like it already has. Sounds like magic, but it's science. Let's say you're switching careers. The moment you start “acting as if,” you'll find yourself networking with new people, stumbling on the right job posts, and suddenly, that “impossible” leap doesn't seem so far-fetched. The same goes for health, relationships, finances—you name it. Visualize, act as if, and your reality will start shifting to match. Hey Podsters! Ready to level up your public speaking game? Whether it's the boardroom, a client presentation, or even a networking event, owning the room can make all the difference for you personally and professionally. Today, we're talking about how to leave a lasting impact—not just with what you say, but with how you make people feel. Here are three game-changing tips to help you do just that. Know the RoomI know, sounds basic, right? But this little detail is everything. Knowing the physical space can turn a good presentation into an unforgettable one. Check out the venue online ahead of time. Is it full of windows? You might need darker slides. Is the AV setup tricky? Get there early, do a sound check, and get familiar with where people will be sitting. Trust me, even something as small as a room layout change can throw you off your game if you're not prepared. Pro tip: Let people know what to expect. If the room's cold, remind folks to bring a sweater. Far from the elevator? Tell ‘em to wear comfy shoes. These small touches matter more than you think! Connect with the RoomAnd by "the room," I mean the people in it. Send out a quick questionnaire before the event—find out who they are, what they care about, or the kind of jargon they use. When you step on stage, start with a story. Whether it's a travel mishap, a funny experience, or something current, stories break the ice and make you memorable. People don't remember bullet points—they remember feelings. So, make them feel connected from the jump. Engage with the RoomInteraction is key. Ask questions like, "How many of you have heard of this concept?" Raise your hand, nod—do something that gets people involved. If you see them drifting or scrolling through their phones, reel them back in with a phrase like, "I know we're all busy, but what I'm about to say is really important." And if all else fails? Mix it up! Have them chat in groups or do something interactive. Keeping people engaged will make sure you—and your presentation—are unforgettable. So next time you step up to present, remember: Know the room. Connect with the room. Engage with the room. These tips are tried and true, and I promise they'll help you own any stage. This has been weighing on my mind so we are bringing it back and jumping back to episode #1 with debunking imposter syndrome. You are having a feeling, not a medical condition.  Feelings are not facts. They are a temporary experience.  A feeling.  So now that we know this...what do we do? In this episode, we talk about how to recognize, deal with, and prevent future feelings of being an imposter.  Spoiler alert - men feel it too.  The difference?  They take action anyway. Ready to move out of imposter feelings, here are the 3 R's for success: Remember – Remember that imposter syndrome is just a thought, not reality. 3 Tips to Savor September & Keep Those Summer Vibes Going Through Fall EP119

It's fall, Podsters!  The chill in the morning air, the sweatshirts coming out of storage, leaves falling (yes, my lawn is covered in leaves) all mean one thing – summer is over.  And as summer winds down, you might find yourself feeling a bit of that seasonal stress creeping in.   You know what I mean… the shift from the laid-back vibe of summer to the busyness of fall can be a lot to handle. Enter, September Scaries. You're not alone Podsters and guess what? This is the perfect time to level up in both your life and business, and this week's episode will help you to do just that. Today I'm sharing three key tips to help you smoothly transition into fall while keeping your momentum strong. Summer might have been all about relaxing and recharging, but as we move into the last quarter of the year, it's time to get clear on what you really want to accomplish before the year wraps up. Right now, is the best time for a re-focus.  It's like a second New Year! With shorter days and a busier schedule, it's easy to feel like there aren't enough hours in the day so we have to curate our commitments. How? By taking a strategic approach to your calendar. Before committing to new obligations, ask yourself, "Will I want to do this when the time comes?" With the summer freedom feeling it's easier to say yes to more things, but as we roll into fall we have to manage our energy a little differently. This means, really asking yourself what you want to commit to and leaving some room in your schedule. What if you choose one day  in your schedule where you don't schedule anything at all and simply let things play out and happen for you! Life happens, and it's crucial to create space for those unexpected moments and for times when you just need to pause, play, and regroup. Having this space not only allows you to focus to move your life and business forward and leaves time for those unexpected delightful days of fun with your friends and family. So, if you're feeling that end-of-summer stress, Podsters, I got you. Together, we'll turn those September Scaries into the fuel you need to thrive this fall and beyond. Are you ready make the bold move, step into who you know you are meant to be and finally DO THE THING? You know it's time. You also know there's a whole new life waiting for you on the other side of your fear and this powerful, two-day retreat is where transformational coaching meets tactical execution so you can actually DO THE THING.

Is Your Inner Circle Helping or Hindering Your Success? EP117

Look around, Podsters - and look closely.  Your environment (the people you hang with, the places you go, the information you take in, all of it) shapes your thoughts and beliefs.  Your beliefs shape your behavior.  And we all know – your behavior shapes your outcomes.  So, I ask… Who are you surrounding yourself with? You know the saying, "your net worth is the average of the five people you spend the most time with"? Well, I'd take it a step further and say your value (which is your currency), is shaped by those same people.  How you see and value yourself affects how others do, and if you're not hanging out with people who inspire you, challenge you, and are on the path you want to be on, professionally or personally, it's time to rethink your circle. Podsters, it's true. You become what you surround yourself with. The people in your life, their energy, their mindset, ALL OF THIS has a massive impact on what you think, your beliefs and how you show up. And eventually, you'll start to reflect the ideas, thoughts, goals and opinions of those around you as well - so make sure these are people you admire, people whose qualities and successes you want to emulate. Today, podsters I invite you to take a good hard look around; your friends, your colleagues, your family, your professional networks, how you spend your precious time and who you spend it with…. are these the people who will support you, believe in you and help you get where you want to go? As we get ready for fall, and the “back to school” frenzy, it's the perfect time to assess who you're spending time with on the playground of life. Let's unpack this in a real, practical way. No cheesy quotes or overused memes, just an honest look at how the company you keep can significantly impact your journey. As summer winds down, let's use these quiet moments to re-evaluate and ensure that we're surrounding ourselves with people who are lifting us up, pushing us forward, and helping us to achieve our goals. If really want to level up, it's time to pay attention to who's in your circle. We're in the heart of summer, and distractions are everywhere, so staying focused and true to yourself professionally can be tough. Today, I'm sharing three steps to get yourself back on track when you're just not that into it. First, know and leverage your peak productivity. You know when you're most productive so schedule your most important work during that time. For example, I'm a morning person, so I tackle my big tasks early, and if those “distractions” are calling, I bang out what I need to do a little earlier so I can enjoy whatever it is that's distracting me.  Figure out your peak performance time and plan accordingly to maximize your efficiency. Second, sweep your own porch. This means taking care of yourself and knowing what you need to do to thrive. I keep a “thrive “list to remind me how simple it is to get back to ME.  This list includes things like drinking water, getting some sun, or phoning a friend.  Do what you need to feel good and set at the tone for your life (and your success). Third, step out when you need to. Sometimes, taking a break is the best way to reset. Whether it's a quick walk, a day off, or just some quiet time, honor your need for a breather. It's important to step away from your day to day so that you can and come back refreshed and ready. So, there you have it, Podsters! Three steps to help you get back on track when you're just not feeling it. Remember, it's okay to have off days. Give yourself some grace, lean into that feeling and use these tips to stay focused and also stay true to yourself. Until next time, Podsters, peace out! Join the DO THE THING RETREAT. Learn more HERE, or get in touch to ask me anything! What's up, Podsters? Today, we're peeling back the curtain TRUE self-confidence.  I mean REALLY honoring your decisions, trusting your instincts and the difference between boundaries and simple decisions.   In fact, we are adopting a powerful mantra for the week…are you ready? "You don't get to decide how I react to you." Partially inspired by recent conversations Samantha Parker and upcoming chat with Tiffany Carter, (spoiler alert… both confident and highly successful business women), I'm shining a light on how freeing it can be to not let others dictate our reactions OR undermine our decisions. Pretty powerful. Confidence grows with experience and true confidence is achieved when care less about other people's opinions and more about our own values and decisions. It's about viewing external opinions as simply data points. For example, when someone thinks poorly of you, this is just a fact, not a real reflection of your worth.  Or who you are. Now, let's talk about the magic phrase: ** "I'm comfortable with my decisions."** These five words, when you truly believe them – help you to stand in the power of your decisions and your choices.  This phrase will end ANY additional criticism, unsolicited opinions or debates and will instantly reaffirm your commitment to who you are.   Remember – YOU get to decide how you react to what others are projecting, saying, how they are behaving and what they are doing. Standing firm in your decisions and not allowing others to derail your own path is game changing. I'd love to hear you practice saying "I'm comfortable with my decisions," and then notice the shift in your interactions. It's time to bet on yourself, Podsters.  To truly stand in your confidence and stay firm in your decisions.  And remember, you get to control how you react. And until next time, peace out! Today, I'm shining a light on a topic that has been coming up in many conversations with my clients but rarely discussed: SELF-SABOTAGE. Whether it's in your career, business, health, happiness, or relationships, self-sabotaging behaviors can quietly undermine your success and negatively impact your well-being. At work, these behaviors might include procrastination on important projects, perfectionism that prevents you from finishing tasks, avoiding opportunities to network, or downplaying your accomplishments to avoid standing out. Self-sabotage doesn't just affect your career it can also wreak havoc on your personal relationships. Let's talk about how behaviors like pushing people away, avoiding vulnerability, and fearing intimacy can prevent you from forming deep, meaningful connections. You might find yourself picking fights over minor issues, constantly questioning your partner's loyalty, or feeling undeserving of love and affection. These patterns can make it difficult to build and maintain healthy, fulfilling relationships. Your health is another area where self-sabotage can strike. This might be you engaging in unhealthy habits like skipping workouts, overeating, neglecting self-care, or relying on substances to cope with stress. These behaviors often stem from a lack of self-worth or a fear of change, and protecting this persona of who you think you are.   Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward developing healthier behaviors that nourish your body and mind. Here's the thing, Podsters.  We all do it, and we call can stop. You can change this behavior by recognizing these patterns and allowing yourself some grace; and today I'm giving you specifics on how you can stop the self-sabotage. Summer is here, Podsters! No one loves summer more than I do and as a follow up to last week's episode, we're diving into how you can make the most of your summer- at work AND at home. Today we are talking about the “wait until I'm more focused” approach and how this will always lead you back to bring one of the herd.  We won't do that around here at Unmute Yourself the Podcast so today I've brought in THE leading authority on LinkedIn and global branding expert – Miranda Von Fricken.  This Queen of Cool is walking us through three immediate and actionable steps you can take this summer so that you don't wake up in September and say “oops, should have started sooner”. Miranda lives and breathes LinkedIn and today is not about giving you corporate tips and tricks- today is about showing YOU how you are showing up personally, in the professional world. Many people come to me in May, saying they want to work on their career or business but will wait until after summer. This makes Miranda and me twitch! So, I invited Miranda today to spill the tea on three things you can do to optimize your LinkedIn profile this summer and trust me, these tips are golden nuggets. Whether you're looking to level up your career or turn your side hustle into a full-time job, now is the time to act. Here's why waiting is a bad idea: to stand out in a crowded market, you need to do what others aren't doing. When people take breaks, like in the summer, you double down. You can still enjoy your summer while being intentional about your efforts on LinkedIn. As Miranda says, "If you're not on LinkedIn, what are you even doing?" Miranda also just released an incredible book called "Own Your Awesome on LinkedIn: There Are One Billion Members, But Only One You." For those who think LinkedIn is overrated, this book is for you. A few strategic actions can make a big difference in your networking efforts. So, Podsters, let's not wait!  Start optimizing your LinkedIn profile now and get ahead of the game. It's June, Podsters and who else is here for summer? I am so here for summer. As you know, my summer word is “barefoot” and I'm coming in with a PSA for you… Every year, I have the same conversation in the spring or early summer.  People want to make a move, they want to DO THE THING and the they say, "Let's circle back at the end of the summer." They want to enjoy their summer. I get it, I do.  I love summer as much as you do, and if you're in a toxic work environment, or you want to make THE BIG CHANGE, taking a break from thinking about it is a bad idea. If you're in a job or running a business that doesn't feel good, you have got to take action, NOW. Here's why. When you take that break, summer becomes fall, and then it's back to school, busy budgets, travel, and trade shows. Then comes Thanksgiving, the holidays, and you wake up six months later still in that miserable job. You have to make a change before it changes you. The three lies I hear us going back to the most are: ·       "Summer is not a good time to focus" ·       "Summer is not a good for me to network" ·       "No one's hiring in the summer." None of these are true. Summer is the perfect time to focus, network, and lay the groundwork for future opportunities. Take action now, and make a change before it changes you. You deserve the best because you are the best. It's Okay to Not Be Okay!

Today, I'm here to close the loop on something I've promised to discuss. For those of you who have been following along, you know I've been going through some stuff lately, and I said I'd come back to talk about it. So here I am, ready to share why it's okay not to be okay and why we need to normalize it. When I was going through my rough patch, it was shocking how often people would ask how I was doing, and I'd automatically respond with, “I'm great, how are you?” even when I wasn't. It felt so inauthentic, and that's why I think we need to talk about it, not as a Debbie Downer, but to be honest and authentic and create genuine connections. It's essential to recognize that it's okay not to be okay. We all need help at some point, yet we often say we're fine when we're not. Over the past 12 weeks, I kept telling people I was fine when I wasn't, and it felt like a narrator in my head said, “She was not indeed fine.” every time I said those words, “I'm okay”. No one wants to dump their problems on a casual acquaintance, but with close ones, we should be truthful. It's important to admit when we're struggling, both to ourselves and to our loved ones. By pretending to be okay, we miss opportunities for genuine connection and support. When we say we're fine when we're not, we shame ourselves unnecessarily. I learned that lesson the hard way, feeling like I had always to be great. I wasn't being authentic, and it took a toll on me. It's essential to be honest and seek help when needed. Podsters, let's normalize not being okay. If someone asks how you are, be honest. You don't have to explain everything, but you can say, “I've been better.” Let's be real with ourselves and each other. It's okay not to be okay; acknowledging that is a step towards healing. I'm serving up an oldie, a goodie, and a quickie, Podsters! Get ready for a treat as we revisit one of our most popular episodes: 'Letting Go of What's No Longer Serving You,' featuring the fabulous Beth Knauss, co-founder of Unmute Yourself podcast. It's a quickie, but boy, do we pack a punch as we dive into the art of purging and letting go—be it people, places, things, habits, or beliefs. Because sometimes, making space for the new requires shedding the old. I'll be back with a bang next week and in the meantime, I'm taking a quick break to recharge and recalibrate. Until next, Podsters, remember to let go of what no longer serves you. Peace out! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nancy-medoff/message
