Filmmaker Samantha Pestana-Markey grew up with a passion for texture and story. As a queer storyteller, they're driven to share a different point of view from the heteronormative stories dominating the airwaves. Their autobiographical/fiction short film, I'm [Not] OK, deals with the complex relationships between mothers and daughters, as well as first love between two queer high schoolers. They also share about how their work in costume design fills in story and about getting to work with the likes of Bruce Campbell. Note: there are unbleeped swear words in this episode. TITLE BBF257 Selling is not a numbers game with Samantha Pickering Summary Strap yourselves in for a very insightful chat about marketing and sales with Samantha Pickering. She believes that compassion and creativity are the two key ingredients - not numbers and statistics. It was refreshing to hear such a human take on a process that is so often misunderstood. See some of Samantha’s top tips below: ** Some of the best sales training comes from learning about complaints. Once you understand what not to do, you can sell more effectively. ** Learn your touchpoints. What do they feel like from your customers’ point of view rather than from your point of viewl? ** Consider marketing to be a sales conversation without you being present. ** People are not numbers! KPIs are all very well, but don’t ever forget that you are selling to people. ** Earn the right to progress your sales journey. You should get to the point where you can ask your lead “what would you like to do next?” and they reply “I’d like to buy”. ** Remove the focus from yourself and make the conversation about your lead/customer. In this episode of Business Brain Food you will learn: ** How to use systems to create empathy ** The value of customers who bought elsewhere ** The differences between sales and marketing ** The art of connective conversation ** The exploratory phase of sales Resources mentioned in this episode: ** If you’re a business coach, business adviser or would like to become one, go to: https://maxmyprofit.com.au/business-exceleration.html ** Find Samantha on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sales-leadership-growth-coach-queensland/ ** Samantha’s website: http://www.passionatesalesconsulting.com ** All previous BBF episodes & show notes can be found at http://www.businessbrainfood.com.au ** Join the Business Brain Food Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BusinessBrainFood/ ** Twitter: https://twitter.com/bfewtrell Call to action: Samantha is living proof of what can be achieved if you approach your sales and marketing like a human being rather than like a robot. Wouldn't it be nice to have ONE reliable place you could go to find resources that would answer your questions about parenting and health and wellness for your family? That's what my guest on today's episode of the Gotcha Mama podcast, Samantha Barkley, set out to do when she created her website and blog A Mom Around Town. Samantha's own experiences with a newborn left her needing help finding breastfeeding support, sleep guidance and someone just to have coffee with. I love Google as much as the next mom, but it can get a bit much to wade through to make a decision and find exactly what you are looking for. Samantha created the website resource A Mom Around Town to help other moms find confidence in themselves and the best health, wellness and parenting information to help them get there. We talk about: How A Mom Around Town serves moms and what types of parenting and pregnancy resources she offers The biggest challenges she faces as a mom to a toddler Ways we can be confident in our motherhood journey How to conquer to-do lists and feel accomplished as a busy mom Find Samantha on: Website - https://amomaroundtown.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/amomaroundtown Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/amomaroundtownstl Pinterest - https://www.pinterest.com/amomaroundtown For show notes and resources mentioned: http://www.gotchamama.com GOTCHA MAMA INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/gotchamama/ GOTCHA MAMA FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/gotchamama/

Samantha Clarke is a happiness consultant, lecturer at The School of Life and runs an online Growth and Happiness school, to name just a few of her many achievements. She's also suffered from sickle cell anaemia since she was 5 years old. Her frequent stints in hospital led to an isolated childhood and her ambition and desire to do things on her own means she struggles asking for help when bouts of pain impact her ability to do the things she wants to do today. Our stories may be different but the challenges are universal: How do we ask for help, when do we show our vulnerable side on dates, when do we notice the signs for self-care, is it ok to just stop if you're an entrepreneur where the business is solely your responsibility? 'The hill seems insurmountable but it never is. There's always the resource within you' Samantha says and fills me with hope. Samantha set off to Brazil to prove that she could live a digital nomads life and ended up in hospital wondering if she was going to die. This frank, honest portrayal of an entrepreneurs life while suffering from sickle cell anaemia is an inspiration to anyone who deals with adversity every day!
