Can you talk about hard things? Can you negotiate your salary with a new boss? Can you tactfully comfort someone who's just had a devastating loss? Can you be open about your sexual needs with your partner? Anna Sale is the host of the Death, Sex, and Money, a award-winning podcast that “explores the big questions and hard choices that are often left out of polite conversation.” She's also the author of Let's Talk About Hard Things, a bestselling book that teaches you to have that conversation. She sits down with us this week to talk about tactics to have those challenging talks. Anna's philosophy is: “hard conversations” are inevitable in life, so you might as well learn how to have them. In this interview, she talks about why the three topics of death, sex, and money (all unavoidable sooner or later) can make people so uncomfortable. We discuss how your upbringing and background influence your life choices, and what happens when you choose to go off-script, as well as how hard conversations with your family of origin can be—and why that's completely normal. Anna also offers practical tips on how to start a conversation that might be awkward and uncomfortable, what to listen for in a difficult talk, and how to be direct, but at the same time kind. "Life isn't about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself." ~George Bernard Shaw Have you ever wondered what you're here to do and who you're meant to be? Like, what is your purpose, and what were you sent here to contribute and leave behind. It's a big question but when you start getting curious about it, it opens a door to passion and creativity! This question points you to ask yourself, "What lights me up?" And from here, you can really start living a more creative life. Whether you'd consider yourself creative or not, if you're human, you're a creator! We're all creative in our own unique ways and when we can learn to follow what lights us up -whether it's numbers, plants, people, writing, speaking, running a business, painting or crafting- we will thrive and begin creating our lives from a heart space, not just a headspace. “Everybody has a little bit of creativity in them. It’s how you bring it out of yourself and stick to it. You just have to keep at it and you can teach yourself." In this episode, I talk all about living a more creative life with Victoria's Secret PINK Graphic Designer, Harley Davidson Riding Chic, and owner of the cool lifestyle brand Bananna Bones, Anna Santaguida. She shares how she finds inspiration in her designs, how she got started and how she always maintains the attitude that growth is a process that requires patience. SOME GOLDEN NUGGETS from this episode: ~ Everyone has a unique style. Figure out your style and really work on that style. ~ How to turn comparison and competition into fuel and inspiration. ~ How to love your own self, style & art. Learning to love what makes you unique. ~ How you turn your creativity into what you do for a living and be patient in the process. ~ Always be lead by curiosity. CURIOSITY > FEAR every time. . As Anna says in this episode, "You'd be so surprised if you stay creative and curious, where that will take you." . Our guest this week is Anna Rubano, of In Tune with Anna K. We're talking about self care for moms who have ADHD and we're talking about food choices. This is a sore spot for a lot of us moms. How do we plan for healthy eating when we're barely surviving on handfuls of goldfish crackers and sandwich scraps leftover from our toddler? Take a deep breath and relax. This isn't a chat on the benefits of paleo vs. keto, or how to count your macros. Anna will encourage you no matter what your food choices currently are. Our discussion isn't about what you look like, or achieving that goal weight, or the perfect meal plan. Instead, we talk about: -how can we take care of ourselves through making small changes in our food choices -using food as fuel to nourish our bodies and feed our ADHD brains -how Anna stays committed when she does not have motivation -what you can do to get started when you are feeling overwhelmed -ideas on how to stick to your meal plan when you don't really feel like eating that thing any more Anna is a holistic health coach, helping women integrate whole health into their lives, looking beyond just healthy food choices to what is happening off the plate and in your life. She's not pushing diet culture. Instead she guides women on how to work on our physical health with big picture view - not nitpicking the details - which is a great match for our ADHD brains. Taking care of yourself is a basic requirement of living - like food and water - not a luxury item. Self-care can and must be done in every stage of motherhood. Get ready - let's figure out what self-care truly fits you. You are worthy. You are valuable. You are not alone. Anna's journey is part of our March Mama Madness Series. Be sure to listen to part 1, when Anna shares her ADHD diagnosis story of being diagnosed later in life after her son was diagnosed with ADHD. We covered aaaaaaall the feelings of shame starting in childhood, feeling like we're not good enough, and the grief & relief of having your diagnosis. Anna's soft spoken strength gives us hope that we can find our strength, too. Get ready to laugh and cringe as you hear parts of your life woven through Anna's story as she shares her ADHD journey with us, and witness her honesty and vulnerability through her struggles with ADHD.
