In this episode, Kelly celebrates being “Fempowered”, together with Samantha Joy. We delve into inspiring stories about personal development, career, and relationships, discuss important issues addressing traumas, and provide empowering and healing experiences to uplift and support women everywhere.  [5:57] Be in Safe Spaces.  A big part of how I was able to move through the pain was being in safe spaces in community and telling my stories [10:24] Being Too Much.  Being too much gave me the life of my dreams. This is the most incredible dream come true [15:23] Own Your Life. I have this big beautiful rich life. I have all these incredible women and all these incredible people. I'm safe, I'm held, I'm worthy, I'm going places. [22:43] Choosing Myself.  Saying “No” at the altar as I did; I was saying yes to myself. I knew it wasn't right and that experience really was the catalyst to my greatest life journey. [25:30]  Traumatic Experiences We all experience trauma, whether big trauma or little trauma, and I feel like I carry that throughout my life. [29:00] Love Is Blind. I just got really lost in him. It's not that I was not myself but I didn't know who I was...I was losing myself. [36:35] Be Sensitive.  You have to facilitate that. You can't just open someone up to their wounds and be like “ok go out in the world again”. You have to really be with them and make them feel safe. [37:23] Knowing Your Body.  You need to learn your body and you need to learn to love your body and get intimate with it. [42:27] Traumas Don't Define You.  Those parts of you that are angry, that are disappointed, that whole chain, the whole guilt, that whole grief. They're just parts of you. They don't define you. Today's guest, Samantha Joy, is a writing coach and the bestselling author of “The Less Effect: Design Your Life for Happiness & Purpose.   I recently connected with Samantha and bonded over our shared interest in authenticity and vulnerability on social media. At the time we met, we were both going through a similar situation, and we decided to hop on a call together to talk through it. I enjoy her approach to social media, as well as her approach to life.   Samantha shared with me how writing a book changed her life, bringing her from her darkest place to her most vibrant and empowered phase in life. I wanted to bring her on the show to talk about things like understanding how to be comfortable with discomfort, what a mindset shift means, and how to take care of yourself so that you can shed the things that hold you back and show up in the world as your authentic self.    Samantha is able to share how she came out of her darkest times in a very comfortable and understandable way. How she rose from the ashes to become her best self, which I think is an incredibly powerful story. It really put the power back in my life.”  Remembering Who You Are [6:00] “It's in there somewhere and your identity doesn't need that part of the outside world. We're all human too and we can fall in that trap, and there's an awareness to bring us back.” The Journey of Identity [8:12] “We're on a forever journey of discovery and it doesn't mean you can know in an instant.” The Energy of Sex [12:57] “You get to the point where sex feels like sugar, you crave it, and then at some point, realize, you don't really need it.” Challenges of Celibacy [15:09] “It is rough at first. You feel lonely and disconnected, but if you are feeling disconnected when you cut off a vice, it means you are not connected to self, and that's a problem.”  Celibacy [26:09] “It is admirable to sit with yourself and not look for another vice to go out in a different way.” On Dating and Sexuality [33:50] “I'm on a love journey, and at one point, I fell in love with this woman. Even then, I had shame around it. This might be uncomfortable for them.” “There's no shame in living outside the box.” Personal Development, Self-Love Journey and Personal Awakening [41:42] “A dark side of us could actually be our strength but we hide from them because of the stories and the limiting beliefs, and because it's been changed for a long time.” Life As a Game [46:56] “We have the privilege, why not use it and make it fun? Samantha Joy joins me on the podcast this week as an Enneagram type 7, and author of the book The Less Effect: Design Your Life for Happiness and Purpose. Her mission is to educate people on how to step into their authentic self by letting go of items in your physical, social, and habitual environments. On today's episode, we dig deep into how she was possibly mistyped as a type to the helper for years and years and years before she finally uncovered that she was an Enthusiast on the Enneagram personality testing system. We talked a lot about parenting and her career in upper level management in the financial industry before she set out on her own. Samantha is running a program right now based on how she went from food stamps to six figures in nine months. If you enjoyed today's conversation, please share it with one person. And while you're at it, leave us a five star rating and a written review on iTunes or Spotify. That really helps us get the message of the podcast out to more people. Where do you find your identity? So many of us struggle with losing our true selves within the clutter of life. In today's episode we'll be hearing from Identity Coach and Best-Selling Author, Samantha Joy! We'll be answering questions like: What is the "Less Effect"? How can I implement minimalism into my physical, social, and habitual environments? How can I practice saying "no"? Why is changing my environment important? What role does minimalism play in a healthy relationship with social media? "What is your message that you live by?" Minimalism: stripping away the things that don't serve us to find ourselves and our true identity and then being intentional about what we fill those spaces with. Don't suffocate who you are with things, people, or routines that take away from your true identity. When most people think of minimalism, they think of it in regards to tangible clutter. However, minimalism can be extended way beyond that. Samantha likes to make three environmental categories: physical, social, and habitual. Physical refers to the things we have. It could be clothing, books, any physical objects that you own. Social refers to the people we spend time and interact with. People can have a big impact on who we present ourselves as. They can make a positive impact on our lives or they can drag us down. It's important to be discerning in who you choose to spend your time with. Habitual refers to our routines and the things we our consistently doing. Are there people you are always trying to please? Are you living for yourself or for someone else? Does your daily routine make your day easier or harder? We have to note which of our consistent behaviors are adding to or taking away from our lives. "There are a lot of things you have to work through to be okay with being by yourself." How do you feel when you're completely alone? No phone. No music. Nothing. Being alone with our thoughts can be very unsettling, uncomfortable, and sometimes scary. Who are you when you're by yourself with only the company of your own mind? You might not be able to answer that question. We often use distractions to suppress memories and thoughts that we don't want to come up. So when you strip away everything you use to keep those unwanted thoughts away (people, work, music, social media), they come about and we are completely unprepared to deal with them. In order to feel okay being alone with your mind, you need to confront those things that you are trying so hard to suppress. Only once you're at peace with your mind will you be at peace with your life. "Things can change because we can change." Humans are not complacent beings. We grow and we change. One of the best ways to do so is learning how to say "no." Start showing up for yourself and your needs. If we don't treat our time as sacred then who will? By not constantly saying yes when you want to say no, you'll start recognizing your own worth. When you start recognizing your worth, others with start recognizing that same worth within you. Once we are able to change, we start seeing our perspectives change. Connect on IG @samantha_joy__ And check out her website! www.thelesseffect.com
