For our second anniversary, we're looking back at one of our first episodes! ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: It's not hard to find gruesome, macabre images or videos – they're on TV, in horror movies and online. But what if you wanted to see them in person? Through a series of donations and transactions, the body of a 98-year-old World War II veteran from Louisiana ended up on a table in an Oregon hotel ballroom where attendees paid as much as $500 to view a public dissection. Dr. Gail Saltz, associate professor of psychiatry at the New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill-Cornell School of Medicine and host of the “How Can I Help?" podcast, explains what drives people to seek out such spectacles and what that fascination with death can tell us about ourselves and our society.

Can one partner give you everything? In this episode, we talk to "Monique,” a woman in her fifties who was happy with her husband, but not getting her sexual needs fulfilled by him. "Monique" decided to explore her sexuality and desires outside of her marriage and her affairs have made her a better mother, a better wife, and helped her regain the identity she felt she lost after kids. She says that she thinks her husband might suspect she is having these affairs, but that he doesn't mind because of how they make her a better and more grounded person. Dr. Gail Saltz also joins to discuss the impact motherhood has on women's sexual desire and we speak with sex expert Dr. Ashley Thompson who breaks down the myth that your spouse should be able to fulfill every one of your needs – a falsehood that can place a lot of pressure on a partner.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, we are diving into Dr Gail Saltz's thoughts on how seasonal change affects our stress levels and therefore our skin. Seasonal stress is a topic which is very under-discussed and sometimes we don't quite understand why it's happening to us or how it indirectly impacts our skin. Today, we will be discussing how the change in seasons affects how we feel. I ask Dr Gail whether SAD lights really work, whether underexposure to sunlight makes us less resilient to stress and why spending time outside is good for both our mental health and skin health.Find Dr Gail Saltz: Website: https://drgailsaltz.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drgailsaltz/?hl=enDiscover your own skin wellness ritual at ernolaszlo.com. We will learn: What a brain difference is, and what traits are associated with it.  How to shift your focus from your diagnosis to your potential.  How we can foster the qualities of geniuses and high achievers in our own lives.  Did you know there is an association between creativity and major mental disorders? And did you know this has been known for hundreds of years? The ancient Greeks thought of both as "having been touched by the gods.” And Aristotle said, “There is no genius without having a touch of madness.” So what does the science say? How can we transform the source of our struggles to be the origin of our greatest strengths? That's what we're talking about today. Our guest is Dr. Gail Saltz. She is a bestselling author of numerous books, serves as a Medical Expert for the Physicians for Human Rights, and is the host of the podcast “How Can I Help?”. Dr. Saltz is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the NY Presbyterian Hospital Weill-Cornell School of medicine, a psychoanalyst with the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, and has a private practice in Manhattan. Special Guest: Dr. Gail Saltz Every parent wants his or her child to be happy and successful. As parents, we learn from many books, experts, our own parents that there is a formula for this—they get enough sleep, we feed them right, we send them to school, give them love and boundaries, make sure they do their homework, we put them in the right sports, get them involved with enrichment activities—the brain and body develops and our child will be successful. Of course, in practice, this is often not such a clear-cut picture. No child is the same as another. No brain is the same as another. And sometimes, when children don't seem to be following the preconceived pattern that we expected, that we learned about, maybe that we hoped for, we might wonder how our child, who is different from the norm could become happy and successful. It turns out, as some have already discovered, that there is a power in being different and as parents, we can help cultivate, inspire and build upon that difference and that's where the magic can happen. What magic you might wonder? What is the power of different? That's why we are privileged to have our amazing guest, Dr. Gail Saltz, for today's podcast episode. Many of us experience anxiety. It's normal to feel it before a big test, speaking in public, competing in a sporting event, and so on. Though a little bit of anxiety can be a good thing, we must be careful not to let these levels increase beyond the point of becoming a disorder. Dr. Gail Saltz, psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, columnist, podcast host, and television commentator joins Wes Moss to explain how anxiety can be alleviated with a little awareness and what happens when happiness and anxiety converge. Dr. Saltz starts the episode by sharing her thoughts on anxiety and how it can go from good to bad, as well as the most generalized anxiety disorder. Dr. Saltz and Wes also discuss how anxiety would have been treated 100 years ago, her favorite book she's written, and the most common diagnosis in children. To wrap up the episode Dr. Saltz opens up about the most effective way to help people struggling with anxiety, if she believes teletherapy works, where we are in the evolution of helping more people, and provides Wes with key advice for how he can be a better partner. It's not hard to find gruesome, macabre images or videos – they're on TV, in horror movies and online.
