GUY GARDNER: WARRIOR #0 (1994)It is our first podcast guest in a LONG time as Shawn's brother -- the mighty Brian Marek -- joins us to talk about pivotal (to Shawn and Brian at least) 90's comic GUY GARDNER: WARRIOR. It is the Zero Hour issue that reboots Guy as a descendant of a race of peace-keeping aliens who have been traveling the cosmos in a quest to create the perfect, well, warrior. This all gets SUPER body horror pretty quick, with veiny cannon arms and flesh syringes. For the most part, we put this over pretty strongly because the Guy Gardner aesthetic from his era is totally 90s and totally pro wrestling and it's the best. All this plus we chat about the Ultimate Warrior's corpse running amok in the DC Comics offices, Power Girl's forgotten baby, Guy's Irish heritage and which foods you should NOT bring to an orgy.[ONE MORE THING — this podcast was recorded using Streamyard and may eventually come out as video on our YT channel. That being said, the audio does have some aberrations and skips that were unavoidable or skipped over so please bear with us. It was our first time recording the podcast in this format and will need to fine-tuned. Thanks!]*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:16:24 ***Promo: #JSAPRIL (https://fireandwaterpodcast.com/podcast/jsapril/)Follow Brian on Instagram for dog pics and pierogi stuff (https://www.instagram.com/pieroguy/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. In our continuing series on the Iron Age Green Lantern, twentysomething ‘90s dude Kyle Rayner gets a new girlfriend (Donna Troy, formerly known as Wonder Girl, currently serving as a Darkstar), goes on a space adventure with his teammates in the Titans, meets Iron Age Flash Wally West and former Corpsman John Stewart, and is tempted to make a deal with the (literal) devil. But his biggest challenges will be confronting Major Force (the man who killed his previous girlfriend) and justifying his stewardship of the Green Lantern legacy when Hal Jordan returns and demands the ring back. And if he survives all that…he just might screw things up with Donna.Discussed in this episode: Green Lantern #59-70 and Annual #4 (1995), plus crossover issues of Guy Gardner: Warrior, New Titans, Darkstars, and Damage.

Today on JUST ONE OF THE GUYS: A GREEN LANTERN PODCAST we continue out look through the Judd Winick era of Green Lantern with issue 160 of the book, where Kyle apparently tangles with a very large...ummm, adult entertainment provider. Hey, looking at that cover, I really can't think of any OTHER line of work she would be in. But inside the book we actually get an update on the recovering Terry Berg, a look at how the newly reborn toddler Guardians are doing, and Kyle and Jenny having to take on...this...Amazon...space hooker?!? And I thought the ridiculous costumes went away after Arisia's from the Guy Gardner Warrior run. So unless you want an episode devoted to Big Lebowski references (which might be preferable to some), I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! It's time for another listenable episode of Just One of the Guys: A Green Lantern Podcast (I'll leave it to His Excellency Magnus to have the ball-smashing episodes) as we continue our look at the Judd Winick run on Green Lantern with issue #136, part three of the "While Rome Burned" story arc. After rescuing Alan Scott from the demonic constructs of Alex Nero, Kyle is forced to call in the big guns (read that Superman and the rest of the JLA) in order to take down the menace with whatever means necessary. Plus, Guy Gardner Warrior comes to defend his adopted home of New York City from this devestating attack, rather than being left out of the book the last time a major threat hit the Big Apple (*cough* Day of Judgment *cough* Geoff Johns *cough*). Plus we continue our look at the fifth week event Circle of Fire, where the Atom must team up with sibling Green Lanterns Hunter and Forest (I'm not making that up) to try and deductively reason which villain could be behind the creation of Oblivion, the brand new, superpowered being threatening to destroy the universe...or something, most of these near godlike beings have the same shtick. But there's all that as well as your feedback. Hey everybody! Thanks for downloading the latest episode of Just One of the Guys, the greatest Green Lantern podcast on the Two True Freaks feed. Here's hoping that there's never another Green Lantern podcast on the feed or I'll have to give away that title. Anyhow, I've got a could of comics to cover this week, starting with Green Lantern #113, the first part of the "Burning in Effigy" story that introduces the Firestorm knockoff and Green Lantern foe, Effigy. Yes, we finally find out what happend when you give a hipster douchebag superpowers after a seesion of alien abduction and probing, and it doesn't turn him into a hero. Plus I'm covering the second annual for the Green Lantern books, and this will take you back to the halcyon days of the early 90's, where DC thought chasing the Image style would be the best...IDEA...EVER!!! As you will hear, this annual is part of the Bloodlines crossover that introduced the world to some of the greatest heroes every to be produced by DC, like...Nightblade. A kid who can throw knives really well. And can regrow limbs in a Guy Gardner Warrior fashion. ... ... ... Oh who am I kidding, it's all kind of a train wreck. But it's marginally more enjoyable than last annual due to the artwork by aforementioned Guy Gardner Warrior artists Mitch Byrd and Dan Davis. So, unless you want to be left atop the Space Needle while your jerkwhistle boyfriend plays super villain, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! No, it's not special in that we learn about those funny hairs growing on our bodies, but it's special in the fact that Thomas Deja (host of Better in the Dark and author of Shadow Legion Volume 1: New Roads to Hell) and I got to sit down and chat with the manliest man in comic-dom, Mr. Beau Smith! We talk extensively about Beau's run on Guy Gardner Warrior, and we also get the skinny on the various projects that were to have sprung out of that. Want to know about the crossover Beau had planned for Wonder Woman? Of course you do! Do you desire to find out how Batman and Guy would have resolved their differences? Without a doubt!! Can you even imagine what creator called Beau up to ask him about the new direction he was going to take Guy? No, you can't, it's just THAT mind bogglingly awesome!!! Hello everyone, and welcome to the end of an era at Just One of the Guys. Sadly as the Image chasing era of the 1990's draws to an end, so to does the Guy Gardner Warrior comic. In issue 44 of the book, the wi-fi of manly manliness, Beau Smith, teams up with artist Mitch Byrd to close out this chapter on the character of Guy Gardner, and they do it in fine style. Guy as written by Smith has never been better, and despite the over the top look and feel that was hefted on the character, Beau sends the character off in style. But I'd be remiss if I didn't include the Green Lantern issue, where Kyle takes on Grayven, a evil despot with daddy issues. Darkstars get taken out, John Stewart almost gets killed, and Adam Strange...is woefully underused. But Kyle has his first "epic save" so there is that... ... ... I'm sorry, I'm still kind of bummed that Guy Gardner is coming to and end. But thankfully I've got veteran podcaster and good friend Thomas Deja (host of Better in the Dark, Damn Your Eyes! Damn Your Ears!, and The Nocturne Travel Agency) to aid me through my grief. We celebrate this hidden gem in the era of big guns, big boobs and pouches, and give our respects to both Guy, Beau and Byrd. So come along and get some Vuldarian justice with us; it's what Guy would want you to do.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Greetings comic lovers, and welcome to another episode of Just One of the Guys, the show that is truly Marvelous! No, I'm not channeling late 1980's Billy Crystal, I'm talking about the Green Lantern book, which features a guest spot from Earth's Mightiest Mortal, Captain Marvel. Together with Green Lantern, he takes down a resurrected Egyptian god and does it without even throwing a punch. That's how fricking awesome Captain Marvel is! But what's even more awesome is this week's issue of Guy Gardner Warrior. This time out, Guy is headed to the 1996 Toy Expo to check out the new line of Warrior action figures and view the pilot of Guy Gardner Warrior: The Animated Series. And as a bonus treat, we get to see the show rendered before our eyes by the late great Mike Parobeck. It truly is one of the most fun issues of Guy Gardner ever published; maybe one of the most fun comics published in the 1990's. If you even have a passing interest in this show, go hunt down this book, you won't be disappointed! So unless you want Buck Wargo to start ripping off his shirt, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening! Hello dear listeners, and welcome to week three of "Co-Host-A-Palooza" here at Just One of the Guys, where my amazing co-host Luke Jaconetti and I are going to be covering the last part of "The Way of the Warrior" storyline in Guy Gardner Warrior and the second part of "The Siege of Zi Charam" storyline in Green Lantern. Parts 1, 3, 4, and 5 will have to be sought out on other podcasts, because it involves the All New Titans, and Thomas Deja has warned me off those issues. However, the Green Lantern book stands well on its own, with some great artwork by Ron Lim and a surprise cameo from the Herald of Galactus himself, Silver Surfer! Wait...that's not Silver Surfer? But it's Ron Marz and Ron Lim on the books, how could it not be? Whatever... Over in Guy Gardner, it's the ultra 90's showdown between Guy and his ancient Tormock foes as Guy, Diana, Hawkman, and...Probert beat the living snot out of some very 90's aliens. Plus, it wouldn't be a 90's comic without an appearance by...wait for it...Lobo! Ass-kickery abounds. Again, many thanks to Luke Jaconetti for sticking around to finish off this storyline. It was a blast hosting with him, and if you want to hear more of him, check out his giant monster podcast Earth Destruction Directive over at the brand spanking new Two True Freaks website. Greetings wonderful listeners, and welcome to another episode of Just One of the Guys. We're hip deep in "Co-Host-A-Pallooza Month" with our show this time covering four more issues in the ongoing storyline of the two most underrated Green Lanterns in comicdom. In Green Lantern #64, we get to see the Justice League take on Parallax. Well, not technically THE Justice League, but it sure is a heck of a lot better than the League that was running concurrently. Plus, we ponder on why the heck is Oliver Queen dressing in Conner Hawke's Green Arrow uniform? Seriously, it's all kinds of wrong. Over with Guy Gardner, we are continuing "The Way of the Warrior" storyline in Guy Gardner Warrior #33, JLA #102, and Hawkman #23. Guy fights alot, Obsidian is mopey, Ice Maiden bitch-slaps Fire, and Hawkman is seriously underused, especially in his own comic. Plus we get the eagerly anticipated return of Probert. Almost as eagerly anticipated as the return of Flicker, so not very much at all. All of this and podcaster extraordinaire Luke Jaconetti, host of Earth Destruction Directive, combine to celebrate the 1990's in all of it's over the top wonder. So, unless you want an entire show dedicated to the backstory of Ice Maiden, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening! EDIT!!! PLEASE READ IF THE MUSIC ON THE HAWKMAN SYNOPSIS IS TOO LOUD!!! Due to an error on my part, the initial file had some overpowering music over Luke's synopsis of Hawkman. If you downloaded the show prior to 1:00 pm Central Time, you will have that file. I have uploaded the corrected file, and Luke's scintillating voice should be audible now. This week, our look at the Green Lantern and Guy Gardner books begins with Green Lantern #61, where Kyle and his snuggle bunny (I'm pretty certain that's the correct term Kevin Dooley mandated she be called) Donna Troy are having a nice little picnic...or the surface of Mars (Hope they didn't tell J'onn J'onnz, because he might be a little miffed with them cavorting all over the barren wasteland that was once his home). But the fun and finger sandwiches will have to wait for our duo, as the Overlord of Apokolips, Darkseid, has sent Kalibak to break up their happy-fun time. And Darkseid also does a little tag popping...whatever that means. Over with Guy, we get a trip to Metropolis in Action Comics 709 where our favorite morphing ginger tries to get some help dealing with his wacky alien hybrid DNA from the Man of Steel. But mostly what he gets is a beatdown in the Metropolis Tunnel, where they appear to be pretty lax in allowing people to transport hazardous materials. This leads into Guy Gardner Warrior #30, where we find out who would win in a fight between Guy and Superman...and strangely enough, the winner is actually SuperGIRL...who saw that coming? Plus we get Mitch Byrd drawing the Last Son of Krypton, which is always awesome for me. But the biggest bonus this episode is I have another wonderful guest host with me this time. Mr J David Weter, host of PAD Smash, Superman Forever Radio, and Green Lantern's Light amongst a myriad of others was kind enough to drop by and add his humor, wit, and charm to the show. Plus he did the synopsis for Action 709, so less work for me...huzzah! As always, David was a blast to have on the show, and you should definitely go check out his podcasts. So unless you want Darkseid to whip out his mad beats on his kickin' sound system, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening! Hello Lantern Lovers, and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys. This week in our coverage of the Green Lantern and Guy Gardner books, we get to see a honest depiction of life in New York City (NEW YORK CITY?!? Get a rope...) which involves demons coming out of dark alleys, superheroes moving furniture, and portals to Hell being opened up then subsequently shut by ancient evil wizards. Thomas Deja will back me up on the validity of these claims. Over in Guy Gardner: Warrior we get Guy being given hero status by then President William Jefferson Clinton, having a heart to heart with the Man of Steel himself, and getting into a tussle with an obvious Hulk analogue, Sledge. Hopefully Guy also has ties to Max Lord level of money, because during the scrap he knocks down THE FREAKING WASHINGTON MONUMENT!!! Which I guess just leaves it open for replacement by the much larger Clinton Monument that was going to be built right beside it. So unless you want a face full of non Mummy Rocket Boots, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hey out there in listener land; welcome back to a brand spanking new episode of Just One of the Guys, where this episode is dedicated to my favorite podcaster (who writes in and co-hosts The Book Guys Show) Professor Alan! Yes, due to him picking up Guy Gardner: Warrior #25 for a measly 25 cents (lucky son-of-a-gun, I had to pay full price!), he will finally be able to experience the majesty and grandeur of this book, which showcases Guy's softer side, his series nemesis, Dementor, and the Phantom Stranger, who despite all evidence to the contrary in other books is generally awesome in this book. But that doesn't mean we are skipping the Green Lantern book, oh no. Kyle is trying to find his way back to Earth, and doing so runs into a bar that just might be found in the most "wretched hive of scum and villainy" that can be referenced with infringing on copyrights. He also gets into a fight with a patron who "has the death sentence on twelve systems" and rescues a blaster wielding princess. Wait, no...he's rescued by the blaster wielding princess, and the princess is actually a former Green Lantern. Plus there's another tragic ending to the story that just makes it clear that women need to not get attracted to Kyle...SERIOUSLY!!! So unless you want to hear the cantina music underscoring the next few episodes, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening! Hello wonderful listeners, and welcome to very estrogen filled episode of Just One of the Guys. Estrogen filled, you say? Why yes, I reply, and not because of my fondness for the movie Steel Magnolias*. No, it's because we are dealing with issue #54 of Green Lantern, the infamous "Women in Refrigerators" issue that Gail Simone used to show how horribly female characters are treated in comics. And this was before Starfire and Harley Quinn were turned into sleazy sex objects. And speaking of sex objects, we get a glorious dose of that over in the issue of Guy Gardner: Warrior, but for some reason, it doesn't come of as sleazy. Not like that Arisia costume from a few issues back. Plus we get more action than both the Stallone Expendables movies in 22 pages of Beau Smith goodness. And to wrap up this bundle of fun, I have an extra special guest and first time podcaster, Mrs. Sally Pascale of Green Lantern Butts FOREVER! She lends her unique opinions on both the death of Kyle's girlfriend and the actual physicality of the women in the Guy Gardner book. Plus, she's a big fan of Guy, so that makes her the most wonderful woman on the internet in my opinion. So unless you want to be sharing some time beside the leftovers, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening! Finally, an extra special thanks to Sally for coming on the show. Despite the website's title, Sally's blog is more than just about Green Lantern butts. She is one of the best spoken bloggers out there, and her reviews of the Green Lantern books have a level of wit and knowledge that surpass many bloggers on the internet. Please go check out her site. You'll come for the Green Lantern Butts, but you'll stay for the amazingly fun posts! *I'm not that big a fan of Steel Magnolias, it's just a better pick than Fried Green Tomatoes.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Welcome back, lovely listeners, to another episode of Just One of the Guys, where this time out I'm rasping my way through an issue of Green Lantern (Number 52 to be precise), where Kyle shows off his ring slinging skills by flying, making a motorcycle, and creating an image of his girlfriend Alex in a bikini that is almost, but not quite as revealing as Arisia's costume from episode 51. The in Guy Gardner Warrior, we get the ultimate showdown between Guy and Hal in another attempt to determine who has possession of the most tropes of the 1990s (I think Hal wins with the Spawn-like cape and incredibly huge shoulderpads). Quipping and punching abound, which is to be expected in a Beau Smith storyline. So, unless you want a supervillain to punch you in the back of the head, popping your eye out, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks!
