Jace and Rocky kick off the new year with the first of the DC Spotlights that will be released every week talkign about all the DC titles to hit comic shops. There are a lot of great titles to kick off the year with Two-Face giving a wonderful procedural feel and startign to show just how important Harvey Dent is to the White Church, the court of crime attempting to keep the peace in the Gotham underworld. The penultimate issue of this era of Batman brings back a fan favorite villain, but just how is is back and why, remains to be seen. We have a new era of Captain Atom, but the mystery of how he got his powers back after Absolute Power and what those powers might be, is yet to be revealed. We also have what may be the best issue of Absolute Superman so far and it is possible that this might be the best era of Superman, ever.

Jace welcomes co-writers Ryan Parrott and John Ridley along with artist Mike Perkins to the show to chat about Justice League: The Atom Project. In the aftermath of Absolute Power, we already know that some people didn't get there powers back while others had their powers altered. Perhaps, of greater concent is the fact that many people, kids especially, who are unprepared to weild powers have found that they now posses dangerous abilities. It is up to the combined skills and brain power of the two superheroes who go by the monikor of Atom, Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi, to solve this mystery. Just how are they going to do this? Well they need someone to experiment on, enter the third Atom, Captain Atom. His powers have seemingly disappeared, but maybe not completely and how might the experiements change him? As the story unfolding in two seperate time frames showing Nathaniel Adam during the attempts to restore his powers and after something has gone horribly wrong. This story is sure to have major repercussions on Captain Atom and the entire DC Universe so be sure to pick it up.
It's that time of the year for Nathan's birthday pick. He remembers this book fondly from early in his comic reading career, but has it held up after all this time? Captain Atom is taking his powers to new heights - saving people all across the world in the blink of an eye. But is he losing control of his powers, making him a threat to the planet? We start the show off talking about all things geek, like every week – comics, books, wrestling, action figures and more... And throughout… we kind of get off topic. This week, Josh has willed more McFarlane DC figures into existence! (It's been like 2 years now without an error???) (00:00:00) The Geek Matrix reviews DC's Weekly Comics Releases This week, that's: (01:04:13) #AbsolutePowerSuperSon 1 (01:20:27) #WonderWoman 13 (01:29:35) #Superman 18 (01:48:20) #Catwoman 68 (02:05:00) New McFarlane Figures! (02:14:30) #BatmanSupermanWorldsFinest 31 Plus our Honorable Mentions covered each week by Josh! Here's the run down – Jenny Sparks #2 - I can't say anything else about this book except I hate it. Like, with a passion. And that's because King turned Captain Atom into an arrogant evil wannabe Dr Manhattan, quite literally he just wants to be a god… this is beyond stupid. Can barely even consider the art. King shits ALL OVER the characters he writes. He sucks and he knows it and great art can't save it. Nothing redeemable. 3/10. John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #9 - This is the grimiest magic-based noir that I've ever read and it's absolutely great. A while lot goes sideways, and Constantine is getting a bit closer… and… the art fits the book so well. And also? This is weird, but Arron Campbell drew a dress on Clarice that may be the prettiest piece of clothing that I have ever seen on a comic book character. 8.25/10 Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #3 - I didn't expect to go into this liking it more than the original. I'm not there quite yet, but I am getting damn close. And the occasional explosive use of color in this book makes it all even more gorgeous. 8/10 Batman - The Long Halloween - The Last Halloween #1 - Catwoman, Gilda, Two-Face. Calendar Man, Jim Gordon, Batman and Robin all pick up where the last installment left off. This was a really fun read for me. I thought it odd at first that the Long Halloween was being expanded upon, but now? Give me the next 9 issues. 7.75/10 Multiversus - Collision Detection #1 - The only thing that I knew to expect from this one is that it's a video game tie-in. What I didn't expect was it to be so fun for my 8-year-old to read. He loved it and gives it a 4/5 (he won't judge on 1-10 no matter how many times I ask). Joker The World - With an all star cast of writers, artists, colorists, and letterers, going in, you have to know that at least some of this has got to be good, right? Well, it's a whole bunch of non-connected Joker stories. Some art is great. Some is fantastic, some I'm not a fan of but it fits the story so very well. I don't quite understand it, normally, I wouldn't like this kind of thing. But Joker The World was really good. And there's a Joker the World Free Batman Day Special Edition that might still be at your Local Comic Shop if you'd like a preview to all of them. For the book? It gets 7.5/10 Batman Day 2024: Batman / Elmer Fudd Special #1 - This was a way better story than it deserved to be. Way better. I really enjoyed it. We didn't need the backup at all in this book, but it wasa fun quick read as well. I am very pleasantly surprised. 8/10 Batman - Elmer Fudd Special Noir Edition #1 - See above, but in black and white. There's also a whole bunch of facsimile editions - Crisis on infinite earths, Detective 27, variants and foils, etc. so go check those out as well. #DCAllIn #ComicsAreForEveryone #ComicsAreGreat #MakeComicsGreatAgain #AbsolutePower #DCComics #comics #comicbooks #GeekMatrix #TheGeekMatrix #TGM #GeekMatrixPod --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thegeekmatrixcomics/support
Jace chats with creators J.T. Krul and Freddie Williams II about their run on Captain Atom for The New 52. Starting with an interesting prompt for DC comics on how to approach the character, J.T. and Freddie gave us an incredible foundation for the character that is criminally underrated. Also the guys chat about the creative process and collaboration that was a new way of doing things for both of them and it led to the singular vision for the character that we have in this run. We actually have not seen a lot of Captain Atom since this run and it is hugely disappointing that this take on the character wasn't built upon more. Get some behind the scenes information on how the story was built and some ideas that didn't make it into the back as we look back on one of the best titles from The New 52, that no one talks about.

Sumner welcomes Mark Ditko to Hard Agree. Mark is both a successful civil engineer and the nephew of Sumner's all-time favorite comics artist: Pennsylvania's finest, the legendary Steve Ditko! Mark's beloved uncle co-created, plotted & illustrated the adventures of Peter Parker, the amazingSpider-Man, across an amazing 38 issue run that's never been equaled. Along the way, he also designed the most famous, most-instantly recognizable superhero costume of all-time, before creating Doctor Strange, The Question, Ted Kord (AKA the 1960s Blue Beetle), Captain Atom, The Hawk and the Dove, Shade the Changing Man, Mr. A and another Sumner favorite, The Creeper! Mark is the jovial keeper of the Ditko flame and the guardian of his Uncle Steve's legacy - and he's here to discuss many aspects of the great man's career, to shed some light on his personal relationship with his uncle, to lay out his future publishing plans for the Ditkoverse, to update the status of certain pieces of unpublished Ditko work (long speculated about by fans) and to celebrate the launch of Johnstown PA's Hometown Heroes: Steve Ditko Exhibition, curated by the Ditko Family and running from July 15th – Sept 11th 2021!
