Poet, editor, and writer John Freeman and novelist Omar El Akkad join co-hosts Whitney Terrell and V.V. Ganeshananthan to talk about the final issue of Freeman's, a literary magazine founded in 2015. El Akkad, a contributor to the volume, describes founding editor Freeman's intense and uniquely broad interest in literature, as well as his unusual ability to curate collections of pieces that are in conversation with one another. Freeman explains the work and support that made the magazine possible, and reflects on the moment when he decided to pursue it, as well as how he decided to conclude it. They discuss the publication as a project that created a valuable network of literary connections and gave many writers a new context and outlet for their work. El Akkad reads from “Pillory,” his story which appears in the final edition of Freeman's, and talks about how he came to write it. The arrival of the final ever quarterly print edition of Campaign brings together in the studio UK editor Maisie McCabe, art director Chris Barker, creativity and culture editor Gurjit Degun and features editor Matt Barker. The quartet discuss the magazine's cover design (a throwback to the news story-loaded front pages of yore), with Chris giving a little insight into his creative thinking, before introducing the manifesto questions concept that runs through the issue.Gurjit chats about her “Will we win the war against the robots?” piece (spoiler alert: yes, quite possibly), while Matt explains the thinking behind his “Is this really entertainment?” feature. Maisie then talks about her equally provocative-sounding piece, “Will advertising agencies survive?”, before Chris rounds everything up with a sneak preview of what's to happen next, as Campaign begins a new chapter as a solely digital presence.Further reading:The Autumn issue of Campaign is out nowWill advertising agencies survive?Campaign's final quarterly print issue is a map of the future'From its launch in 1968, Campaign has been the jewel in Haymarket's crown' Hosted on Acast. Marvel's November solicits for Star Wars comics stated, matter of factly, that issue #75 is "The Final Issue" for the flagship monthly series that debuted in 2015 and has been a consistently solid seller. While the publisher offered no explanation, it did tell us to "... stay tuned for more info to come next month!" This, seemingly, means a relaunch is likely but, as to whether it will focus on The Empire Strikes Back era, Sequel Trilogy or something else is, for now, a tightly held secret.Still, we've got some thoughts about what this portends, when a relaunch could begin and what it may mean for readers and collectors. We also look at the trajectory for Doctor Aphra that was set forth in the same solicits and ponder that monthly title's fate, too.

It was a tough decision on whether or not to proceed with tonight's podcast or to observe an evening of silence. In the end, we decided that what would most honor Mr. Lee would be to press on with the show.Every week Agasicles and Steven run down 6 books and do an on-air review of them in excruciating detail, then we call out The BEST Thing I read this week (TBTIRTW), and wrap things up with any honorable mentions. We also then publish our pull-lists for the upcoming NCBD so that YOU know what to expect on next week''s podcast.THIS IS A SPOILERY REVIEWS SHOW. WE WILL HOLD LITTLE TO NOTHING BACK! After SEVERAL technical difficulties this week, we're finally able to publish a shorter episode, but there's still plenty to talk about! News -New comic series coming from Marvel -Bob Iger says they will be more careful about the volume and timing of future Star Wars movies going forward Upcoming Canon This Week: -25th: "Solo: A Star Wars Story" Blu-Ray Release -26th: Marvel's "Poe Dameron" #31 (Final Issue) -26th: Marvel's "Doctor Aphra" #24 Mailbag Questions 1.) Ryan Shepard - So since we are getting spin off films of major characters do you think we will get novels about smaller characters like cad bane, jango fett, quinlan coz, maybe even one of mother Talzin and other minor characters? Also, I'm a big fan of canon I love that its all connected including everything that's not a movie. I have a bookshelf too, of all the books,tv shows, and comic volumes in chronological order. I don't include young reader books and comics or forces of destiny on to my canon book self. So I was wondering if I should include resitance and what u consider canon and if excluded anything or like modify it in anyway or take to heart that anything published after April,14,2014 is 100% canon. Thanks, Ryan. PS I love ur podcast I think its one of the best 2.) Benjamin Balliet - With Disney and Lucasfilm kind of pumping the brakes on film production volume, do you think we'll ever see two films a year now? And I know Brian mentioned last week that there should be a break between 9 and 10. Do you think that will happen now as well? Therefore, we have gotten support from our friends at LindaX to make sure that the prize pool will be no less than $25K. That means that if Battle7oken goes up in value, the prize pool could be more. But admittedly, I only played H3 and H5 online. In that case, you asked for a why. H3 brings with it all the feelings and nostalgia of my first online experience that had a competitive scene with it in MLG. I never play H2 online so this was the first time for me that there seemed a real possibility to play for money. Whether or not I ever reached that level of play, the fact that there was an opportunity was a big deal. I would still like to play H3. I wouldn’t say 99% nostalgia for me. But it did play a big part in my life for a couple years. I sort of had a “relationship” with H3 if you want to call it that. Maybe like 60%-80% nostalgia for me. Goalie Sniper H3 for me. It was my first online game. (First game I ever played online I got MVP!!!). It was the game that I convinced all my friends to get xbox360’s for. The amount of custom games I played with friends was insane. It was a routine with my friend group. Get home from school. Play halo 3 all night. Laugh our asses off have a great time. Go to school the next day and laugh about the stuff that happened the night before. It was easy for anybody to pick up and have fun. But hard to become really good at it. So it’s 99% nostalgia why I love that game so much. Jonathan (DaddyTrax) Halo 2. Fast paced and the best maps. Sander Halo 3, remember that I liked it more then going to a bar on a friday night, so addictive and fun. Salty1 H2 365 24/7 Halo Infinite News Halo 3 for me. I am sure there are some people out there who legitimately think Halo 2 is better. However I feel like some people say that because they want to seem cool/different/ old school, or maybe don't remember the game as it really was. Mark Francis & Alex Sauer My favorite Halo of all time is Halo 5 because of the new Spartan Abilities, and Overall Online experience. I feel like this is the most competitive Halo yet. Due to the abilities, I feel like you can be more skillful at Halo 5. They give the game more depth. Halo CE is my # 2. Alex Sauer - Agreed Just Simon Who doesn't agree about H2 ? all the H3 kids ... everybody knows that H2 was the best Halo . all the glitches combos ( BXR , BXB, RRXYYRRX, Supernades , double nades , etc ) name them. Even for the casual players with their hyper bounces. *Sid was here* Mc donald emblem , writing TJ Campbell Grunt 4500 I loved H4’s MP, it includes some of my most fond memories and I always have a fun time playing it. So yea, you could say I said Halo 4, even Halo 5. Joshua Gutierrez Waay too many fucking memories with Halo 3. It was my first game that I beat in one night, I played countless matches of Rumble Pit and FFA, not to mention the endless hours spent with my siblings in custom games. Halo 3 is the best game ever. Dust Storm I'd have to say H2 only because there are some critical things missing from H5. HE had something for everyone and still fostered that LAN party environment, which you just can't get most of the time these days. Weapons feel great, BTB maps are awesome, and the genesis of customs. JJCoolJua I picked Halo 2, 100% for the nostalgia factor. Halo 2 was the game I played with my dorm mates in college. Spending hours doing custom games, or learning how to super jump, or escaping maps. After three years and nearly two hundred episodes, the end is finally here! Thank you...all of you, for downloading and listening to the final episode of JUST ONE OF THE GUYS. We've come a long way on this journey, from Hal walking the Earth like Kane from Kung Fu, John dealing with the Mosaic world, Guy going from GL to tattooed morphing Guy, and Kyle lucking upon the most powerful weapon in the universe and becoming one of he greatest Lantern's ever. And in issue 181, Kyle faces his greatest challenge...what to do with Major Force, a brutal killer who just...WON'T...DIE! Does Kyle get the ending he deserved, or does he get ridden out on the rails in favor of Hal Jordan returning under the pen of Geoff Johns? You'll have to listen to find out. Plus I spend some time cleaning out the JOOTG e-mail bag, as well as giving a personal thank you to all of the wonderful guest hosts who were kind enough to come on this show and talk with me about these comics. There are SO MANY wonderful people who helped elevate this show above what I could have ever made it to be, and I can't thank all of you enough. And as an added bonus, the songmeister supreme, Dr. Bill Robinson, has offered up a little spoken word song celebrating the show's ending. Stick around until the end for that...you won't be disappointed (especially you, Michael Bradley). So what are you waiting for? Hey!! Welcome to Episode 13 of The Podcast That Goes SNIKT!! hosted by Jason Venable. Happy Apocalypse Everyone!! I figured since this was the last day on earth before we're all obliterated, it was only fitting to post a special minisode about the last issue of Wolverine's solo book. So here I focus on Wolverine #317 (with spoilers, of course!) and talk about the upcoming Not 1, but 2! Marvel Now! Wolverine books that would be replacing it if we still existed in 2013. I also have a brief discussion based on a FB thread on some things we might try next on the podcast, but alas, this will probably be the last episode unless they have podcasting in the afterlife! Enjoy, Share, and please come back (even if it's as a ghost or zombie)!! e-mail sniktcast@yahoo.com www.facebook.com/sniktpodcastfanpage Follow on Twitter: @sniktcast
