GUY GARDNER: WARRIOR #0 (1994)It is our first podcast guest in a LONG time as Shawn's brother -- the mighty Brian Marek -- joins us to talk about pivotal (to Shawn and Brian at least) 90's comic GUY GARDNER: WARRIOR. It is the Zero Hour issue that reboots Guy as a descendant of a race of peace-keeping aliens who have been traveling the cosmos in a quest to create the perfect, well, warrior. This all gets SUPER body horror pretty quick, with veiny cannon arms and flesh syringes. For the most part, we put this over pretty strongly because the Guy Gardner aesthetic from his era is totally 90s and totally pro wrestling and it's the best. All this plus we chat about the Ultimate Warrior's corpse running amok in the DC Comics offices, Power Girl's forgotten baby, Guy's Irish heritage and which foods you should NOT bring to an orgy.[ONE MORE THING — this podcast was recorded using Streamyard and may eventually come out as video on our YT channel. That being said, the audio does have some aberrations and skips that were unavoidable or skipped over so please bear with us. It was our first time recording the podcast in this format and will need to fine-tuned. In 1967, the small town of St. Paul, Canada declared that they were a place that welcomed everyone, even the aliens. They did this by building a giant UFO landing pad, hoping to attract intergalactic tourists. They timed it to coincide with Canada's centennial celebrations.Although most of the town saw it as a light hearted joke the driving force behind the alien parking space Margo Lagassee, was a firm believer in the outer space community. Paul Boisvert who was the part of the original crew behind the landing pad tells Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty how St. Paul became a destination spot for extraterrestrial visitors. He also makes clear if aliens do descend on St. Paul he “would be pleased to feed them some Pierogi, Garlic Sausage and Pea Soup.”Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from football in Brazil, the history of the ‘Indian Titanic' and the invention of air fryers, to Public Enemy's Fight The Power, subway art and the political crisis in Georgia. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: visionary architect Antoni Gaudi and the design of the Sagrada Familia; Michael Jordan and his bespoke Nike trainers; Princess Diana at the Taj Mahal; and Görel Hanser, manager of legendary Swedish pop band Abba on the influence they've had on the music industry. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the time an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at the President of the United States in protest of America's occupation of Iraq; the creation of the Hollywood commercial that changed advertising forever; and the ascent of the first Aboriginal MP.(Photo: Paul Boisvert on the landing pad. On this episode I sit down with Casey Marielle, one of the two sisters behind Jaju Pierogi. Sixty years ago, their Jaju (dziadziu, or grandfather) started a Polish food business with his brothers and sisters in Western Massachusetts—hand-crafting pierogi, golabki, and kielbasa for their community. Fast forward to the ‘90s and you'd find the girls spending their weekends cutting, stuffing, and sealing pierogi in the back kitchen alongside their elders. Finally, in 2015, Vanessa & Casey decided to head to the family store and dust off their grandfather's recipes. They started selling at farmers markets and grew the business! They are now available in 2500 stores nationwide! We chat about their history, leaving the corporate world and some of the dynamics of running a family business. Discernment, as we have said, is the fruit of humility. Having removed the impediment of pride and having purified the heart of the passions, one comes to comprehend the things of the kingdom and the will of God. St. John gives us one example after another of how discernment helps us to perceive the things that lead us to God and that teach us to embrace that which endures. As one progresses in the spiritual life, however, discernment is not simply the ability to know God‘s will, but rather also the ability to fulfill it in the way that God desires. In this, a soul can begin to trust in the action of the Spirit within the mind and heart. Therefore, although spiritual guides may be lacking one is not abandoned by God. Rather, God makes all things work for the good of those who love him. In fact, the more one lays side ones will and turns to God in prayer and fasting, the more one lets go of the need to be driven by creativity, productivity, and one's own intentions as a whole. The deeper the communion becomes with God, the more one finds joy in being drawn along whatever path He desires. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:08:12 FrDavid Abernethy: page 204 number 105 00:46:02 Rebecca Thérèse: I think Teresa preferred the priest to be learned rather than just intelligent because she thought that even holy priests could be misled. BONUS - Not So Nefarious Criminals FEATURING Bob Motta, Defense DiariesCW/TW - Foul LanguageHey there, it's Courtney! While we're taking a breather until season six, we're putting our mental well-being first. In the meantime, we've got a special treat from our Patreon archives for you - an episode from 'Not So Nefarious Criminals,' our fun and quirky podcast that takes a light-hearted look at petty crimes and dumb criminals. In this particular episode, we're joined by Bob Motta from Defense Diaries, and it's a gem we couldn't keep to ourselves any longer. During this episode, we delve into some classic Florida man antics, discuss food a lot (ever heard of Pierogi spaghetti?) and, of course, aliens make their usual appearance. We also touch on some… um… different cases involving potatoes and a rather peculiar $150 burglary. Yes, you guessed it, it's another wild Florida man story! So, if you're looking for a dose of humor and levity in the world of true crime, give this episode a listen. And please be sure to stay tuned for more captivating content coming your way soon. Before we dive in, I want to offer a slight disclaimer. The timing of this recording was challenging for me due to the recent loss of my mother, but I was determined to continue with 'Not So Nefarious Criminals' because I needed that sense of normalcy and laughter. I even felt like my mom was right there with us, sharing in our good time. Join us as we explore the lighter side of crime and remember, even in the darkest of times, there's always room for a good laugh. You can check out Bob Motta / Defense Diaries HEREOUR LINKS -Become a patron! Scammers have used our systems against us, like shipping, rental cars, and rental homes. They've learned how to stay off the radar and, in order to stop money laundering, we need to address fraud one step at a time. Today's guest is Pierogi. Pierogi protects the innocent and vulnerable from internet scammers through his channel Scammer Payback. He exposes these criminals and helps victims through his technology and cybersecurity knowledge. Show Notes: [1:07] - Pierogi shares his background and how he got into cybersecurity. [4:25] - His drive to help people and get back at scammers is why he started Scammers Payback. [6:03] - Scammers can get access to a bank account and ruin everything. [8:32] - Pierogi shares one of the projects he worked on that actually resulted in an arrest. [9:56] - Scammers know how to stay under the radar. [11:31] - Those involved in organized crime consider their victims as customers. [14:32] - Pierogi describes how a well-trained scammer can cater their manipulation to each individual situation. [17:26] - It's a numbers game. At some point, a scammer is going to connect with someone. [19:04] - Scammers can learn so much about you on the internet that makes their false claims that much more believable. [20:56] - A lot of the time, scammers know when to give up and move on. [22:18] - Never send a text message of any type of personal identification. [26:11] - Focus on the mental aspect of this. [27:52] - Employees at different stores that sell gift cards are on high alert and typically do not sell certain numbers of gift cards. [30:14] - In some cases, banks are even calling out possible red flags. [31:31] - Financial institutions can use technology to determine behaviors that are not normal for you to indicate possible fraud. [33:29] - Hackers are using known processes that are good but for bad purposes. [34:58] - Major corporations have a budget for cybersecurity but regular people don't. [36:28] - Phone carriers are trying to do more to prevent scam calls. [38:03] - While playing different roles, Pierogi shares that he actually “married” a scammer. He shares some of the craziest things scammers have done. [39:32] - Pierogi is also learning different languages so he can learn more about where scammers are located. [41:39] - A lot of the experiences of the victims and how scammers talk about them makes Pierogi emotional. [44:40] - These experiences are sometimes hard to listen to. [46:28] - A lot of people say they'll know immediately if they are talking to a scammer, but it isn't that simple. [48:54] - If we know this information, we need to talk about it to others and educate. [51:16] - Scammers are very good at what they do. We portray them as silly, but they are very intelligent and convincing. Thanks for joining us on Easy Prey. Be sure to subscribe to our podcast on iTunes and leave a nice review. Learn more about your ad choices. For our last episode of this semester, Dr. Guha is joined by Dr. Amber Nickell and Hollie Marquess, as well as three students who accompanied them to Poland as part of a Study Abroad trip earlier this year. Alex White, Sarah Keiss, and Ashlyn Carlson discuss the experience of studying Jewish life before, during, and after the Holocaust in Poland. They also discuss pierogis, of course!

Today's guest is Vanessa White. Awesome story about her and her sister starting Jaju Pierogi, back in January 2016. In January 2020, they started with 100 stores and through hard work and hustle in March of 2023 they're up to about 1500 stores and moving into different parts of the country. This is a phenomenal story about entrepreneurship. Just sweat equity, but also the personal development that goes along with the professional development. So, check the conversation with Vanessa and her stories of joy and hard work.
Joshua, Jude, and Brendan kick open the Pandora's box of podcast machines to talk about what we know when it comes to Notre Dame football - which certainly doesn't have much to do with spring ball due to the lack of info. Cool. In this episode: Hello! Easter Candy VS other candy. Pierogi Pop. REVIEWS! An amendment was made. Still not speaking Spanish. We continue our villain series with a special focus on the 2023 football season. While we don't want to spoil our picks by listing them off in the show notes - there are several big surprises. Also... I have to let you know that there might be a massive Big 10 VS ACC showdown inside (and that's for SEO purposes). Rank Everything takes a look around the group of five (and still finds enough glorious pettiness to fill an Easter basket). And plenty more weaved in and out of the show (like... a lot). In this episode with artist Daniel Zeller, we talked about the inherent unity between the macro and micro cosmic scales of reality. We talked about natural systems and how we can visualize the interdependent nature of life. We touched on psychedelics and the importance those compounds might hold in our evolution. We also dove into Daniel's creative process, meditation, and how visual art can function in ways that language seems to fall short. ---------------------- Daniel Zeller earned his MFA in Sculpture from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and a BFA in sculpture from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, though he is now known for his abstract, labor intensive drawings. He has had solo exhibitions at Pierogi in NYC, Daniel Weinberg in Los Angeles, G-Module in Paris, and Michel Soskine Inc., in Madrid. His work has been included in group exhibitions both in the states and internationally, and is included in the collections of MoMA, the Morgan Library, and the Whitney in NYC, LACMA and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, NASA and the National Gallery in DC, the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, The Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, the Portland Art Museum in Oregon, among others. He has been awarded a Pollock Krasner Foundation grant and a Civitella Ranieri fellowship, and has an MTA permanent installation at the Bay 50th stop on the D line. One of my favorite bakers (and favorite people) is Nicole Rucker, owner of Fat & Flour in the Grand Central Market here in L.A., and the very first guest on my very first podcast, Lunch Therapy. In today's episode of "You've Got to Taste This," Nicole sends me a recipe for Silesian Heaven crispy pierogis from "Pierogi" by Zuza Zak. These pierogis are stuffed with dried fruit and well-seasoned pork, boiled, and then fried in butter with sesame seeds. Spoiler alert: they were out of this world! They were also a huge hit at Nicole's Cookbook Club, which is why she was inspired to send the recipe my way. In today's chat we talk all about her cookbook club and also cover the food she cooks at home, healing from a burn, why she's done putting miso into sweet desserts, and her hacks for banana bread. Get the recipe for these pierogis on amateurgourmet.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
