Winston Peters is the Program Director of the Entrepreneurs@MC program and the new Entrepreneur Center at Manhattan College in New York. He is a co-founder of WÜLF University and a Principal at MyÜberLife Consulting Group. Winston explains how he purposefully connects and builds trust with his Gen Z students starting with the first homework assignment. He teaches students the skills they want and need for entering the labor market including those not on the syllabus. Winston shares what drives and concerns Gen Z's leaving college. He suggests how we can build bridges across generations and help each other find fulfillment at work.   KEY TAKEAWAYS   [03:15] Winston quickly bores of building high-rises using his civil engineering degree and delves into the New York cultural scene.   [03:54] Winston applies his skills differently to analyze and solve problems, wanting to make an impact.   [05:00] Winston found many creatives don't fully understand the mechanics of their business.   [07:00] An engineer's approach separates the fluff and breaks things down.   [08:08] WULF university was launched to provide critical learning that students don't typically get in the classroom to help them in their careers.   [08:58] Empathy skills are needed to complement students' competitive academic orientation so they can collaborate well in the workplace.   [10:45] How does Winston shift students' mindsets?   [11:22] Looking through different lenses to develop understanding and build trust.   [12:51] How Winston shows up to develop trust, engage on a personal level, and make education collaborative.   [15:24] The importance of checking in and understanding how each student is (really) doing.   [17:02] Setting the tone at the beginning by understanding where people's energy is.   [17:54] Human beings are judging machines based on pattern matching, and authenticity can be modeled to build a safe space.   [19:15] Winston leads by example.   [20:13] Winston's compelling first homework assignment.   [20:56] Asking people how they learn develops understanding and context.   [23:12] The four +1 types of entrepreneurship students Winston teaches at Manhattan College.   [25:08] The importance of being anti-fragile and having multiple revenue streams.   [26:44] Some want corporate jobs to learn about corporate structure (for their own future venture).   [27:27] Two areas Gen Z's believe are going to be key to their future success: understanding financials and creating contacts.   [29:25] Leaving college in debt, many students only explore the highest-paying jobs, not what will be fulfilling or give them security.   [31:05] Many Gen Z's are entering the workforce taking jobs to survive.   [32:00] Why Winston doesn't give extra credits in his class.   [33:54] The fundamental teaching orientation for Winston is human-centric—how to solve humans' problems and sell to them.   [35:37] Winston is excited to work with students on a competition for a Blue Economy project—to convert water into reusable electricity.   [36:44] How Winston effectively enforces his “no phones in class” policy!   [38:24] Winston asks what students want to learn beyond the syllabus for their preferred career.   [40:02] IMMEDIATE ACTION TIP: If you are older, have more empathy for Gen Z: the world they are growing up in is very different; they are under a lot of pressure. Ask Gen Zers deeper questions about fulfillment. There's no job security, so how can you help each other find fulfillment and what does that look like?     RESOURCES   Winston Peters on LinkedIn Twitter @WinceP_ofMUL Instagram @Professor.p_ofMUL Entrepreneurs@MC at Manhattan College News about the Entrepreneur Center at Manhattan College MyÜberLife Consulting Group's website     QUOTES (edited)   “The basic premise of being an engineer is being a problem solver and able to break things down into empirical forms.”   “There's no difference between hard and soft skills. Soft skills are just more human skills that aren't taught in the classroom that everyone needs.”   “In your professional career, you will most likely be collaborating with people. And so the sooner you learn the skills of collaboration the better off you'll be, “How can we win together? Instead of how can I beat you?''”   “Trust is the most important thing. I don't care how smart you are, but if you don't have the trust of a young person, good luck trying to convince them that what you're saying is true.”   “Gen Zers want to be more entrepreneurial. They're looking for financial freedom and financial stability, as well as fulfillment.”   “I have a three-strike no-phone policy in my classroom. If by the third strike, I see someone with their phone, I don't take away that person's phone, I take away everyone else's phone….Now everyone's working as a team. Everyone is accountable.”

Having graduated from the University of Southern California with an undergraduate degree in Public Policy, Winston is currently a Vice President at the Nashville headquarters of Bernstein - a wealth management company that manages over a hundred billion USD for its client's - Winston is leaving footprints in the finance world through his dedication and life philosophy of leadership through service. At Bernstein, Winston works as an asset manager to multigenerational families, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits. Winston has been the recipient of numerous decorations and awards including the Walter Payton Philadelphia Man of the Year award in 2010. Winston relocated to Nashville in 2010 with his wife and their 3 children. Show Notes I hope you're all excited for today's episode, as we're being joined for the first time ever, with a former NFL star, Winston Justice. Winston has had an exciting and diverse career in the sport, corporate and entrepreneurial world. On today's show, our guest Winston will be shedding light on some of the knowledge, pitfalls, and emotions involved in these industries. Get to find out how Winston was nominated for and helped in solving the 2008 NFL lockout and how this event shaped his passion and future career in wealth management. With an insider look at wealth management, Winston offers us the blueprint that goes into financial management for different groups, ranging from athletes, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and other interested parties. There's no doubt that hard work, passion, and commitment, is what football players and other athletes dedicate to their careers. But despite it all, a lot of failures and disappointments are experienced in this industry. From financial nosedives, short-lived careers, and bad advice, Winston explains to us the various challenges -mentally, emotionally, financially and physically- that athletes have to fight through every day, and why, in spite of landing lucrative deals and lifestyles, some athletes end up with almost nothing to show for at the end of their careers. We also cover Winston's personal experience working as an NFL player and how having a supportive wife and team staff was the cornerstone of his success in football and in life. Having learned a lot from football. Winston has applied some of this knowledge in his other endeavors, such as the coffee shop he started with his brother in law and wealth management for his clients. With so much discipline and passion for helping people and learning new things, Winston enjoys every bit of work put into the process of helping companies and individuals in managing their wealth and portfolio, something he describes as the beauty of building a legacy through finance. Quotes Unlike a business owner that sells his company, when a player gets drafted and then gets a new contract, everyone knows it. And on top of that, you're mostly surrounded by people very different from you, who are genuinely not the best type of people. Half the battle is surrounding yourself with the right type of people. Unlike in other professions, failures that athletes encounter financially are magnified by the media. You think about it the first time you put on your pads. It's so finite. You know that any play could be your last play, and it's all very scary too. It's almost like asking a doctor, ‘What are you going to do if you're not a doctor?' - Winston on football players thinking of another career. As men, we find our identity in what we do. Throughout any career, there's going to be some really extreme highs, and lows as well. Through playing football, you learn a lot of life attributes. Like I remember my coach telling me there are no mistakes, only opportunities to get better. And I applied it to every aspect of my life. You never know when the best time is to pursue a different career or path in life. But you don't want to look back and have any regrets, as well. You should give your all to the present moment, and even if that moment is coming to an end, you should enjoy it to the fullest - Winston's advice to athletes. "Delusion" by Winston Clements #46Tagline: "The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do."Winston Clements is inspiring people all across the world as we speak, to truly break through their own limitations and what a perfect guest for a show with a similar ethos. Now unlike many of us who struggle with adversity in our life, Winston had a rare form of brittle bone disease that sadly caused him to break over 150 bones just by the age of 12!!Yes, painful! However despite going through struggles and questioning whether he would ever be able to live a normal life, what Winston was doing throughout this journey was building an incredible amount of resilience to help him battle any adversity life would throw at him. He swiftly found a turning point in life that transformed him into the person he is today, moving onto TedX stages, inspiring 1,000s and soon 1,000,000s of people across the globe. He is also a specialist in building resilience, diversity and overcoming adversity. Yet the beautiful thing about Winston's story is there is no sense of self pity, only a purpose driven goal to just help others with his story. How Winston knew that he was destined for big things in this world as a child, and how he used that as fuel to propel himself forward even during the hard times. Why even though he was born with a physical disorder, he says he’s overcome more mental challenges than physical ones. Winston’s gratitude for the support of his family and friends and how he came to this realization at a young age. How his parents pushed him to figure things out on his own, and gave him the extra encouragement to be brave and proactive at school by initiating conversations and playing with other kids. Tony Robbins once said that we are thrust into action out of inspiration or desperation. And sometimes it’s a little bit of both! Entrepreneurship can be overwhelming, and it isn’t always as easy to stay driven day after day – especially when the end goal seems so far away. Today’s guest shares his story of working through those challenges and developing the grit to continue.  Winston Henderson is the Chief Visionaire at 5 Years 2 Mastery, an enterprise that seeks to equip and empower others to overcome the limiting beliefs that are holding them back as they work toward their goals, creating the life they’ve always wanted. He was introduced to entrepreneurship by his cousin at the age of 18. After several failed attempts to establish various businesses, Winston studied IT at university – and hated it. But the blessing in disguise was that he also discovered a love of marketing and a renewed interest in business. At 24, Winston spent a year and a half working a traditional job in sales before starting his own home-based hot beverage business. Though Winston’s venture was doing well enough that he could quit his full-time job, he struggled to develop the necessary discipline to run a successful business on his own. As things fell apart and Winston entered a state of depression, he took a look at his options: He could either go back to a full-time job, or he could dig in and make it work. The birth of his daughter in 2011 motivated him to choose the latter, and Winston has built a business that serves ten countries and brings in a monthly revenue of $130,000. Inspired to share his systems and help others reach their full potential, Winston has expanded his work, adding Digital and Content Marketing Strategist and Break-Through and Consistency Mentor to his job title. Listen in as he explains how consistent daily activities lead to big wins and how ‘celebrating the process’ keeps you moving forward as you grow into your most powerful self!   Key Takeaways The challenges of entrepreneurship Mental and emotional discipline ‘Dig in and make it work’   How Winston shifted his mindset to acquire the necessary discipline Desperation for financial independence Strong, emotionally compelling reason to push through the challenges Pain of regret stronger than pain of developing discipline   How Winston selected the products he promotes Saw a demand/need Capitalized on service aligned with that demand   Winston’s advice for building a lucrative business Consistency Start small Visualize the end goal Focus on daily activities Refuel by celebrating the process   Winston’s secrets to success Faith Figure out what’s holding you back Develop your communication skills   Connect with Winston Henderson Website
