Hello, everyone, and welcome to Drum Channel East. The Bronx is in the house today! My guest Tony Cintron, is best known as both a percussionist and drum set player. A native New Yorker Tony has recorded and toured with many of the best in the industry playing R&B, smooth-jazz, Latin-jazz, salsa, gospel, pop and rock. One of Tony's first big gigs out of New York City was with legendary vocalist Roberta Flack at Carnegie Hall, sharing rhythm section duties with bassist Marcus Miller and the late great percussionist Ralph MacDonald. That experience led him to gigs with R&B singers Phyllis Hyman, Angela Bofill, Audrey Wheeler, Lisa Lisa, Phil Perry, and more. In the early eighties, Tony became a band member of the group Unlimited Touch, which had a few dance hits, especially “I Hear Music in The Streets,” which hit number six on the Dance charts in 1981, and was later sampled by producer Sean Combs (Diddy) in 1999 for the Faith Evans song "All Night Long.” Let's Welcome, Tony Cintron to Drum Channel.

"Swing dance" is a group of dances that developed with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s-1950s, the origin of the dances predating popular "swing era" music. The most well-known of these dances is Lindy Hop, a fusion of jazz, tap, breakaway, and Charleston, which originated in Harlem in the early 1920s, but includes a number of other styles such as Balboa, Shag, West Coast Swing, and Boogie Woogie. “Sunday Swing” highlights the music of the swing era and the dances that thrived in the ballrooms and dance halls. Danny Lane guides you through a one hour swing session. Do the Lindy Hop or choose your favorite dance. Just keep swingin'. ***** Join the conversation on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008232395712 or by email at: dannymemorylane@gmail.com ****** You’ll hear: 1) House Party by Ray Anthony & His Orchestra (1951) 2) Too Close For Comfort by Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald & Joe Williams (1956) 3) 'S Wonderful by Artie Shaw & His Orchestra (1945) 4) I Hear Music by Peggy Lee & Nelson Riddle Orch. Noted as one of the great instrumentalist and clinicians in the musical arena, Syreeta Thompson’s musical gift proves to be both sincere and incomparable. The powerful trumpeter has managed to blaze the gospel industry circuit by sharing the stage with many of its greatest icons from the renowned Hezekiah Walker and LFT to the legendary Dorinda Clark-Cole. For many the musical experience of Syreeta Thompson is simply profound as she consistently delivers a stirring performance as an anointed minstrel each time she ministers. For the woman affectionately known as the Trumpet Lady, each opportunity is undeniably an opportunity “to infuse the gospel of Jesus of Christ to all mankind and to touch souls with the gift of music”. Syreeta Thompson is a skilled and educated Psalmist whose speaking and teaching schedules remains as in demand as her musical presentations. In fact, one of her premier achievements to date is her role as the Arts Education Director for Dorinda Clark Cole’s Singers and Musicians Conference, a renowned musical convention that inspires and instructs thousands of ministers and performers each year. In recent times, she has been a featured artist for Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel Industry Retreat and I Hear Music in the Air Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition, she was the featured artist at this year’s Chicago Gospel Announcers Guild. The incomparable performer not only has a signature sound but a signature style that includes performing with a red, white and blue trumpet, all of which are endorsed by T.HINES horns.
Visual Artist, Fashion Designer and Educator Julia Kito Kirtley is extremely talented and well versed in the creative field. Her exhibit “I Hear Music in the Streets” features 13 mixed media paintings that masterfully blend cityscapes, sound and movement to examine the relationship between the city's kinetic energy, the sound of music and the role of the dancer within this sphere. The exhibit also shines even more light on the underground Hip Hop aesthetic. Born and raised in Compton California, Kito has lived in Brooklyn, New York for the past 20 years. A Graduate of Pratt Institute with a BA in Interior design she is inspired by New York's urban environment and the kinetic energy it embodies. Her biggest inspiration comes from dancers with in the underground dance scene. Their movement often inspires many of her works. Her abstract paintings of cityscapes often serve as the foundation of her three dimensional exhibitions that examine the relationship between the city's kinetic energy, the sound of music and the role of the dancer within this sphere. Currently, Kito is a teaching artist and has worked for CAW (Creative Arts Workshop for Kids), Museum Of Arts And Design and Harlem School of The Arts.
