In this episode of Inside Employment, hosts Drew Pearson, Lucy Boyd, and Stephanie Blancquart unpack the evolving landscape of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. They explore the growing regulatory momentum in Australia – particularly the upcoming Gender Undervaluation awards review at the Fair Work Commission – and what it means for employers navigating modern award obligations and pay gap reporting. The discussion also touches on the global shift away from traditional DEI initiatives, contrasting it with Australia's intensifying focus on systemic reform. With key decisions expected to roll out from November into the new year, this episode offers insights for employers preparing for change.
V novém dílu podcastu Pay Gap jsme diskutovaly platformovou ekonomiku a práci pro digitální platformy. O těchto a dalších tématech jsme mluvily s velmi erudovanými hostkami, a to se socioložkou Markétou Švarcovou a ekonomkou Alžbětou Mangarella. Chcete nás i vidět? Send us a textThis week, I'm calling out what the gender pay gap really represents: and it's not a few cents on the dollar. It's a power gap that has quietly stripped women of wealth, visibility, and recognition for decades. I unpack why women in both corporate and entrepreneurial spaces keep getting excluded from positions of influence, how “equal pay for equal work” misses the point entirely, and why midlife women are waking up to a system designed to profit from their silence. This episode dives into leadership, authority, and what it takes to step outside the system and start architecting your own. Caution: It may trigger you into rebellion. Have you ever wondered why so many women still earn less - even when they're doing just as much (if not more)? The numbers are staggering: on average, there's a $1 million lifetime earnings gap between women and men. That's not just a statistic, it's a wake-up call. In this episode, I'm joined by Roxanne Calder, Managing Director of EST10 and author of Earning Power: Breaking Barriers and Building Wealth for Women. Roxanne has spent her career helping women take back their power and rewrite the rules around worth, confidence, and money. We dive into the deep roots of the gender pay gap - why so many women still don't ask for more, how societal conditioning to “be liked” holds us back, and what it takes to confidently claim your value. If you've ever hesitated to ask for a pay rise, raise your prices, or step into your next level - this episode will give you the mindset and motivation to change that. Key Episode Takeaways: There's a $1 million difference in women's lifetime earnings compared to men, awareness is the first step toward change. Taking back your power starts with asking for more, even when it feels uncomfortable. Societal conditioning to be “liked” can hold women back from advocating for themselves. Small, brave steps - whether it's negotiating a salary or trying an ice bath (Roxanne's form of meditation!) - build the muscle of confidence and courage. About the Guest: Roxanne Calder is a recruiter, career advisor, and employment expert. As the Managing Director of EST10, one of Australia's leading recruitment agencies, Roxanne has spent her career navigating the intricate intersections of talent and opportunity, reshaping how individuals and businesses approach success in the workplace. Chcete nás i vidět? Today’s glossys were stacked. Jimmy Kimmel is officially back after his suspension, with a star-studded petition and Howard Stern firing up about censorship. Then came the tea from The View — Sherri Shepherd revealed she and Rosie O’Donnell were on $3 million back in 2007, while Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck were pulling in just $750K. Over in Swiftie-land, Travis Kelce’s mum is pushing hard for grandkids, while Jason Kelce jokes he’s still number one thanks to his kids. John Maytham is joined by renowned human rights activist Mark Heywood to unpack a growing global movement that challenges not poverty alone, but the unchecked accumulation of extreme wealth. Summary: In this episode of "The Morning Report," Willie Lawson addresses the burning question: "Why don't WNBA players get paid like NBA players?" Throughout the episode, he explores the economic disparities between the NBA and WNBA with a factual lens. By breaking down critical metrics such as attendance, revenue, and TV viewership, Willie challenges the rhetoric surrounding the gender pay gap in professional basketball. The episode delves into the striking difference in revenue generations, highlighting that the NBA's massive earnings stem from much higher ticket sales, advertising, and broader viewership compared to the WNBA. The conversation touches on the reality that player salaries are directly tied to the income their leagues can generate. Willie insists that while the WNBA is experiencing growth in viewership and attendance, it is yet to reach the profitability potential of its male counterpart, thereby affecting salary structures. As the discussion draws to a close, Willie emphasizes the importance of honest support over empty slogans or pity when it comes to women's sports. He argues that societal change begins with expanding the audience and market for women's sports, not with superficial comparisons. This episode is a call to action for fostering growth and opportunity in women's basketball based on merit and market realities. Key Takeaways:The NBA garners significantly higher revenue than the WNBA, driven by larger attendance, greater team revenue, and extensive TV viewership.Currently, the NBA earns approximately 60 times more revenue than the WNBA, with a consistent audience pull of 10 times that of marquee WNBA matchups.Despite the salary gap, WNBA players proportionately earn more of the revenue their league generates compared to their NBA counterparts. The WNBA is witnessing rapid growth, with a significant increase in attendance and viewership, partly credited to prominent players attracting wider attention.A sustainable approach to bridging the pay gap in sports involves increasing revenue through growing fan bases and market interest, not through slogans alone.Notable Quotes:"You don't get paid based on your effort. You get paid based on what your product earns.""The gap in salary reflects a gapping value creation, not a gap in human worth.""The NBA simply makes more money than the WNBA.""The WNBA is growing fast. The attendance is higher than it's been in 22 years.""Support women's sports with honesty, not with pity, cash or guilt checks."Resources:Willie Lawson's Twitter: FollowWNBA Official Website: WNBA.comNBA Official Website: NBA.comListen to the full episode for an in-depth understanding of the dynamics shaping professional basketball's economic landscape, and stay tuned for more thought-provoking insights on "The Morning Report."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/morning-report--3694168/support.

Marketing has a big pay gap problem and for many people it's getting worse. Exclusive new data from Marketing Week's 2025 Career & Salary Survey shows the marketing profession has an ethnicity pay gap for full-time workers of 13.3%, up sharply from 8.5% in 2024 – based on a sample 82.9% of whom identify as white. Marketing's gender pay gap has also widened. Female marketers are paid on average 17.8% less than their male peers. This figure is based on a sample of more than 3,500 marketers – 59.9% of whom are female – and is up on the 16% pay gap revealed in 2024. Analysis of the data also finds a socio-economic pay gap for full-time workers of 15.3%, flat compared to last year's figure at 15.9%. Furthermore, 74% of the sample identify as middle-class, up on the 70.1% figure reported in 2024. On this week's podcast, deputy managing editor and head of insight Charlotte Rogers, managing editor Lucy Tesseras and senior reporter Molly Innes dig into what is causing these pay gaps to be so persistent. Meanwhile, marketing's recruitment challenges continue. From drawn out interview processes to ghosting and mental health pressures, the jobs wheel isn't turning as it used to and is having a detrimental impact on many. Listen to find out more.

New data has revealed the pay of chartered accountants in New Zealand lags behind that in Australia. A survey by Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand has found members across the ditch took home a median NZ$177,000 compared to NZ$144,200 in New Zealand. Chief financial officers were being paid around $336,000 to New Zealand's $265,000. But Chartered Accountants' Charlotte Evett told Mike Hosking she's not surprised. She says they've always seen higher salaries in Australia than New Zealand, and the big gap in economic performance has been there since the 70s. However, there are reasons for accountants to stay in the country. Evett says a third of Australian accountants felt they were unfairly paid compared to 20% in New Zealand, and New Zealand can also be more affordable to live in.
