We go back to the church for a rousing celebration for the converted and soon-to-be-faithful. That's right, we're in the pews and joining in the hymnal, at least for this two hours, as Sunday morning forgiveness will always follow Saturday night's sinner's baptismal. We're going to hear the echoes of the past century's gospel songs with a general theme of being saved and born again…and there is certainly plenty to go around whether that's southern Baptist, Appalachian harmonies or classic African American celebratory gospel. We've got it this morning including The Dixie Hummingbirds, Hank Williams, Carl Story, Lonnie Farris, and some contemporary selections from Shannon McNally, Bob Dylan and Solomon Burke. Let's join in, you the faithful congregation of Deeper Roots from the past century of America's music, for two hours celebrating that incredible wellspring of gospel sounds.

Another morning of covers, from country to soul and a little bit of rhythm and roll in store. This week's show celebrates the songwriters and performers who found themselves honored with tributes and covers that honor the sense of a piece. We'll hear covers of Tom T. Hall, Arthur Alexander, Robert Hunter, Derek Martin, Hank Snow and JJ Cale in the show today. The idea is to find a cover worth noting and put it up alongside the original. Just over a dozen songs to pick from in our two hours this morning featuring covers by Shannon McNally, Charley Crockett, Amy Black and Teddy Thompson. Join Dave Stroud for another episode from those dusty digital bins and turn up the volume for straight interpretations and a few wild takes in another covers show on a Friday morning from the KOWS studio in downtown Santa Rosa, California.

Singer-songwriter Shannon McNally joins Rhett from Austin, Texas to talk about her life as a songwriter, and her recent collaboration with Terry Allen and the Panhandle Mystery Band. Shannon tells Rhett about her songwriting process, and the new methods of collaboration that she's enjoyed through writing with a full band. You'll also hear about a transformative experience that she had when she was 15 at a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert, her “unreasonable standard for guitar playing,” and why it's a good thing that it's become harder to make money as a musician. Shannon McNally is a singer-songwriter from Hempstead, New York. She has released 9 studio albums and contributed valuable additions to many others, including records with Dr. John, Neal Casal, Luther Dickinson, and many more talented musicians. In this episode you'll hear about some of those collaborations, and about her unique path as an artist. She recently released an album titled The Waylon Sessions, which is now available on all streaming platforms. Wheels Off is brought to you by Osiris Media. Hosted and produced by Rhett Miller. Grammy-nominated Shannon McNally is a prolific, wide ranging singer-songwriter whose recent album, The Waylon Sessions, revisits the songs of Waylon Jennings. Shannon tells Maggie about putting the album together with some of Waylon's former bandmates and the many musicians who were influenced by his music. The two discuss the early days of her career, the collaborations with artists like Dr John and Charlie Sexton that have contributed to her rich musical catalog, and Shannon shares her perspective on the power of being a woman in the music industry.Over her nearly twenty year career, McNally has produced a long catalog and longer list of peers with whom she has written, recorded and toured. Her music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990's with bands like Robert Randolph and Derek Trucks. She writes as well as she interprets the songs of others, has a top tier musicality to her craft, a soul stirring voice that immediately grabs one by the heart strings and a troubadour's wanderlust, not to mention as it turns out, and is also an excellent electric guitar player.Salute the Songbird is brought to you by Osiris Media. Nos vamos con lo nuevo de los Georgia Thunderbolts que vienen a añadirse al trono del rock georgiano donde reinan los Blackberry Smoke.⦁ Jesse Daniel, Lookin' Back⦁ The Divorcees, Losing Hand⦁ Charlie Marie, 40 Miles From Memphis⦁ Charlie Marie, Ramble On Man⦁ Charlie Marie, Heard It Through The Red Wine⦁ Son Volt, Livin' In The USA ⦁ Son Volt, Diamonds and Cigarettes⦁ Son Volt, Reverie⦁ Juanes, Pump It Up ⦁ Shannon McNally, Help Me Make It Through The Night⦁ The Brothers Comatose, Too Many Places⦁ Chestnut Grove, Ain't Got Nobody⦁ Johnny Tucker ft. All The Lilacs In Ohio". Su versión junto a Rodney Crowell de "I Ain’t Living Long Like This" es soberbia. On Top Of The World”. Escuchar audio

The USWNT soccer star and activist spoke with Terry Gross last year about her World Cup wins, being one of the first openly gay players on the national team, and taking a knee in solidarity with Black Lives Matter — and the repercussions she faced. Episode 173: It takes a bold woman to cover "Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line," but Shannon McNally has been fearlessly facing down naysayers in the music business for 20 years. Nashville based after turns in LA, New Orleans and Mississippi, she's one of the most underrated roots singer songwriters in roots music, with a deep catalog and numerous distinguished collaborations to her name. Her lifelong love of Waylon Jennings inspired her at last to round up a band and cut songs by him or inspired by him, and the collection is getting raves. Also I speak with Oliver Wood, the guitar playing, songwriting half of the Wood Brothers, about his first-ever solo release.
For the last twenty years Shannon McNally has been crafting songs and performing her music in front of audiences. She has developed a unique style with both her voice and her guitar playing. Her most recent album is a tribute to the songwriting legacy of Waylon Jennings. A long time fan of his music, she wanted to interpret his songs with a bit of her own style thrown in. The result is fantastic. Fans of Jennings will recognize the vibe of his songs, and her voice brings a fresh outlook to the tunes. I recently chatted with Shannon about this album. I hope you dig it. Thanks to Shannon for chatting with me about this album. And thank you for listening. Don't forget to subscribe to the show wherever you listen. And check me out social media. Just search up Roots, Rednecks and Radicals. Have a good one everybody. I'll catch you next time.
Shannon McNally talks about ‘The Waylon Sessions' and the perspective that was already there that she resurfaced from the legendary outlaw's music. She also shares the power behind selenium, the gangster's behind record labels, and the challenge of changing narrow perspectives.
Atención a It's About To Get Western, su nuevo álbum. El álbum …but i’d rather be with you, too. Escuchar audio
Roots music singer/songwriter talks about her need for liberation on the bandstand.
This week Singer/Songwriter Shannon McNally joins Maylee and the Texas Homegrown Music Crew. Originally aired 05/16/2021 on 95.3 FM KYHI the Range in Dallas, TX.
Our guest this hour is Shannon McNally, who dropped by to chat about her upcoming record, The Waylon Sessions, a covers album of Waylon Jennings songs which she recorded with an all-star band and special guests like Jessi Colter, Buddy Miller, Rodney Crowell, and Lukas Nelson. McNally's put together an album of classics that challenges our perceptions and assumptions about just what made them classics in the first place, providing a feminine perspective that only a restless, and truly creative spirit like hers could conjure.

Escuchar audio

Linda's was the final episode for 2018, and what pleasure to have her as a guest. In Linda's words: "Music has been at the center of my life since I can remember. Early influences include Karla Bonoff, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell: many other female singer songwriters since then have shaped my taste in music: Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris, Mia Borders, Caroline Herring, Susan Cowsill, Lynn Drury, Shannon McNally, Amy Mann and Brandi Carlile. This list is actually pretty endless--I would also have to include the Beatles, the Stones, and the women of the early blues movement, such as Memphis Minnie. I write Americana music, rooted in my life experiences. Many of my songs tell stories, and they are all different; I don't want to write in just one style--I am open to a variety of music, from country to soul. In short, I am a work in progress and I hope you like what you hear. Little Queenie was released on my birthday in 2016, and No Limits, my second album, was released in October of 2017. I am currently writing and recording songs for my next record, due out in the spring of 2019. My style continues to evolve! You can hear my songs here, as well as on Seattle Wave Radio and Local Roots Music NW Radio, available for purchase on CD Baby and BandCamp." A simple but important point is made in this interview as a recurring theme throughout all; music is for everyone and although it helps, no special skills or education are required to enjoy listening to or creating your own. But as seen below, Linda is a bit of an overachiever. EDUCATION-- Writing Fellows Institute, University of Washington, Tacoma; September - June, 2009 Adjunct Faculty Institute, Tacoma Community College; January - March 2006 Summer School for Applied Aesthetics, Lahti Finland; August 18-23, 2002 The School of Criticism and Theory, Cornell University; June 20 - July 26, 2001 The School of Criticism and Theory, Dartmouth College; June 17 - July 26, 1996 Ph. We love starting our day off with great new music, and this week’s haul was exceptional. We threw in a few requests/dedications for our wonderful listeners, before heading off into “upcoming concert” territory. We finished with a dusty old pile of vinyl records, in honour of the upcoming screenings of Allan Zweig’s documentaries about obsessive collectors!

Today, a very special visit by our old pals, Jesse DeNatale and Scott Nolan (along with Joanna Miller!). These guys are great on their own, but together, it’s pure magic!

We've got plenty of music that's new and notable this week. We also are treated to some brand new music from one of our favourites, Keri Latimer from Nathan, who stopped by after a long, long absence to play some of her new solo songs. And speaking of special guests, we were joined by a new co-host "Tony" who sounded a whole lot like our old pal Carter.

This week, we're pre-taped, but boy have we got a great show for you in my absence. This is one of those timeless classic episodes that you won't mind listening to over and over again. It doesn't reference any particular time or date, all it does is contain some of the GREATEST MUSIC ON EARTH. We've got some old classics you haven't heard in a while. We even have a theme! Yes, in response to all of those folks who (rightly) complain that we don't play enough great female artists (although I swear, it's pretty close!), this show is a He Said/She Said workshop featuring a full hour of male artists and a full hour of female artists. We're keeping it even! And boy, are there some good ones to hear.
