This week, I'm speaking with Wayne Kramer. When it comes to lives, Wayne has lived several. As the founder of seminal rock band MC5, he began his musical career at just 16 years old. By 1967, the MC5 were serving as the house band at the Grande Ballroom and Wayne was working full time. As racial tensions reached a fever pitch around the the country and in his hometown of Detroit, he crossed paths with poet and activist John Sinclair who shared his revolutionary fervor and would become a mentor throughout his life.Shortly after the MC5 imploded, Wayne found himself in federal prison, which he documents at length in his book, The Hard Stuff: Dope, Crime, the MC5, and My Life of Impossibilities. After serving 2 1/2 years of a 4 year sentence, Wayne headed to New York City where he remained for a decade, playing music, continuing to use drugs, and living what he describes as the same year, ten times. In the mid nineties, Wayne began a new life in Los Angeles, where he signed a recording contract and began touring only to see his efforts come crashing down as a result of what he calls, ‘an inside job'. Tired of carrying on the facade of sobriety, Wayne turned to Bob Timmons to help him take the steps toward a better life. Now 24 years sober, Wayne discusses how talent isn't enough, why he thinks NWA picked up where MC5 left off, and his work with the C.A.P.O. Center and the non-profit Jail Guitar Doors, named after The Clash song he helped inspire. Please enjoy Wayne Kramer on The Days Between..

Welcome to Day 2146 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Gospel of John – 14 – God's Specialities_Impossibilities – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 05/08/2022 The Gospel of John – Part 3 Authentication Of The Word – God's Specialty: Impossibilities Today we continue our Good News series according to John the Apostle. Last week we completed the mock trial of Jesus where He, as a defense attorney, left us with only one logical choice, to accept Jesus as Lord of the Sabbath, and also equal with God. Today we are transported to another time and place in John's narrative. Today's passage is John 6:1-21, on pages 1655-1656 in the Pew Bible. I am reading from the NLT because it flows so well. I will read it in segments of the passage throughout the message today, so keep your Bibles open to follow along. Sometime after His clash and mock trial with the religious elite in Jerusalem, Jesus returned to Galilee, where events gave Him an opportunity to offer His disciples a divine perspective on earthly challenges. This was a crucial lesson for the men He would later commission with the words, Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” (John 20:21). Sometimes, life on planet Earth can be a demoralizing struggle. Some challenges loom more significant than our meager resources. Some demands far outweigh our ability to meet them. Some answers float high above our intellectual reach, and some problems are too complex to solve. Let's face it; the world is huge, and we are small. And to make matters worse, we are naturally predisposed to think only on the horizontal plane. Nothing is impossible for God, yet we habitually think in terms of what we have to offer and what can be accomplished through natural means. Some might call this a lack of faith or a failure to believe, but not John, the apostle. He remembered a time when a small band of men had chosen to believe in the Son of God and had left everything behind to follow Him, yet frequently, they struggled to understand Jesus' words and repeatedly failed to comprehend what they saw Him do. Theirs was a completely different problem from the lack of belief Jesus encountered among the religious leaders in Jerusalem. The disciples failed to understand what they saw and heard, yet chose to believe in the Son of God; the temple officials understood better than anyone who Jesus claimed to be, yet chose to reject Him. Disbelief and ignorance are distinct problems, and Jesus handled them accordingly. He condemned disbelief while He patiently transformed the minds of struggling believers. —6:1–3— 1 “After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. 2 A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. 3 Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. Likely six months passed after the events of 5:1–47. Again, John provides snapshots, not a chronological timeline. During this time, the Lord continued to minister in Judea and Galilee. As He healed the sick and proclaimed the good news, multitudes began to follow. In fact, they didn't merely follow; they relentlessly dogged His every movement. The other Gospels tell us that the disciples had...
Here's Part #2 of Rich and Doug's discussion regarding overcoming massive 'impossibilities'. What do you think about the episode? Comment below or email us: http://waw.fm/hello
Dogs have been man's best friend for millennia, so it stands to reason that man's best friend will follow man into the depths of hell, that is, war. This wasn't simply to rip and tear the throats of man's enemies (though that certainly would play a part) or to serve as cannon fodder. Oftentimes, the dogs utilized in war—war dogs—would outshine their human counterparts in acts of heroism. This has been going on for thousands of years, but it became apparent just how valuable dogs were during the Great War of 1914-1918.Among the most famous of all war dogs serving in the First World War was the Paris street orphan dog Rags, who was discovered by Private Jimmy Donovan during leave. After he brought Rags into the fold, the little mutt became the mascot of the First Division, soon learning how to retrieve messages, spot broken signal wires, literally save lives, and even saluting his fellow (human) soldiers. Rags became the most photographed dog in the world and lived until 1936, longer than most dogs even of his size. He was frequently honored by his former human comrades and even met figures like General Jack Pershing. He also was responsible for dog shows creating a new category of “Hero Dog” to allow for mutts to be entered. The only downside was he needed to be given his first and only bath.In this installment of the Infinitesimal Impossibilities series of History Impossible, we'll be looking at the life of Rags and where he fit into the grander events of the First World War. His epic adventures took him all over Europe and the United States where he met hundreds among the adoring public. For all who own dogs (and even those who don't), his story will make you laugh, cry, and appreciate just how much we should value our furry friends. In the end, Rags was a war hero, an adventurer, a mangy mutt, a lovable nuisance, and in his own way a smart ass. But above all else he was a good boy.History Impossible has been made possible by the following generous supporters on Patreon, Substack, and PayPal.
