The Justice for Gerard Movement presents...... "Turning A Moment Into A Movement" Friday April 19, 2024 8:30 PM EST TOPIC: "Black Women and Inequality in Healthcare" Black Women faced a “systemic and historical pattern” of racial abuse in the health sector worldwide. Mistreatment ranged from verbal and physical abuse to denial of quality care and refusal of pain relief. As a result, Black women experienced increased complications during pregnancy and delayed interventions, leading to preventable deaths during childbirth. There's an urgent need for systemic change to ensure equitable and respectful healthcare for all individuals, regardless of their racial or ethnic background. So, it's essential that we continue to raise awareness and advocate for reforms to address these disparities. In this episode of the First Day Podcast, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D. is joined by Jay Love, Co-Founder and current Chief Relationship Officer of Bloomerang. Jay emphasizes the necessity of prioritizing donor stewardship to improve retention rates. He suggests personalized approaches such as handwritten thank-you notes and phone calls, as well as involving board members in expressing gratitude to donors. Additionally, Jay stresses the significance of recognizing donors of all gift sizes, as major donors, although constituting a small percentage, provide the majority of funds. By implementing comprehensive stewardship strategies, organizations can build stronger relationships with donors and mitigate donor fatigue. The episode highlights the nonprofit sector's deplorable state with an average retention rate of only 43-44%, significantly lower than what is required for commercial businesses to thrive. This discrepancy is attributed to various factors, including high turnover rates among fundraising professionals and a lack of expertise in donor nurturing among board members. Despite the immense importance of retaining donors, many organizations find themselves on a constant treadmill of seeking new donors rather than fostering relationships with existing ones. The episode underscores the importance of treating donors as valued members of the nonprofit's family and acknowledges the need for consistent communication and recognition. Strategies such as segmenting donors and maintaining a communication plan are recommended to ensure that donors feel appreciated and engaged with the organization's mission. Ultimately, fostering a culture of gratitude and stewardship can lead to higher donor retention rates and sustained support for the nonprofit's initiatives.

The Justice for Gerard Movement presents...... "Turning A Moment Into A Movement" Friday November 3, 2023 @ 8:30pm TOPIC: Community Conversation: ACCOUNTABILITY & JUSTICE! Accountability and Justice are two important concepts in the criminal justice system. Accountability refers to the responsibility of law enforcement officials to act in a transparent, fair, and collaborative manner with the communities they serve. It is important for police departments to be held accountable for their actions when they deviate from that standard. There are generally four mechanisms for holding law enforcement accountable: community-based, political, civil, and criminal. Justice, on the other hand, is about ensuring that the legal system is fair and equitable for all individuals. It involves taking responsibility for one's actions and correcting broken or fractured systems.
