In this episode of Dissertation Deconstructed, we tackle one of the most challenging—and essential—parts of the doctoral journey: developing your theoretical framework. Many students struggle to move from uncertainty to understanding when it comes to aligning theory with research purpose. Join Dr. Denise Nixon as she breaks down how to identify, evaluate, and select a framework that provides direction and credibility for your study. An excerpt from a previous episode featuring Dr. Azadeh Osonloo sheds light on key factors to consider when developing the theoretical framework. You'll learn practical strategies for connecting your research questions to existing theory, avoiding common pitfalls, and articulating your framework with confidence. This episode will help you move from confusion to clarity in building a strong theoretical foundation for your dissertation.Dr. Azadeh Osonloo - LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/azadeh-o-b73189b/ Article: Understanding, selecting, and integrating a theoretical framework in dissertation research: Creating the blueprint for your “house” by Dr. Cynthia Grant and Dr. Azadeh OsanlooMusic by Moses Harris from PixabaySubscribe & Follow the Show! http://www.faithpointed.comLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/denisenixon/
In this conversation, Dr. Lacy discusses the importance of investing in dissertation coaching and support for doctoral students. She emphasizes that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a necessary step in navigating the challenges of the dissertation process. Lacy highlights the limited role of dissertation chairs and the need for additional resources and community support. She introduces her program, Qual Scholars, as a way to provide structured support for students, encouraging them to seek help and not to go through the process alone. We are on Temple University main college campus for this episode of The Neoliberal Round: Street Vibes Pulse of the Street Season Part 6. We interviewed two young men who are students about who they will vote for and why. Renaldo also shares that he will vote for the first time: "Tomorrow, I will vote in a US Presidential Election for the first time in my life. And it's on a historical day. For the first time a multicultural woman who identifies as #African, #Indian and American will be on the ballot. It's historical as African Americans and even women weren't allowed to vote. Today an Asia-Africa-American woman is on the ballot. Is this what progress and opportunity looks like? Well, we must first take advantage of the opportunities without politicizing them requiring #Africanunity and spurred by #Africanconsciousness and cultural groundedness?" Renaldo McKenzie. Author T.L Jackson returns to the show to talk about her new book, "Purposed Through The Pain." In the studio was her uncle "Marvin," who joined in on the conversation, briefly, to talk about the book and how his uncle, T. L is his inspiration. He too has a powerful story that we will share on the show later. But T. L., talk about her inspiration for the book and how it differs from her first book, "I'm Not A Hypocrite, I'm Human." She begins this new book in 2021 talking about how she had to remove the masks from her life to reveal her true self. The book is an easy-to-read short booklet talking about her brief period of her life where she found herself. The book also provides spaces to write notes and for reflection asking several key questions about purpose. The interview was another powerful one, and of my best and favorite. We are growing and this one show growth especially int he area of videography. It was also my first live in face-to-face video interviews that I have conducted for broadcast and my first face-to-face for audio in several podcast episodes. It was refreshing and powerful. With Claire Underwood of the University of Cincinnati's Artlitt Center for Education, Research, & Sustainability and Children, Youth, Environments (CYE) Journal What does empathy look like in young children? How can we nurture it? When do we just need to step back and let children sort through the complexities of the natural world? Claire Underwood recently participated in a Community of Practice centred on using a Two-Worlds Approach to develop an empathy model for young children. This work was rooted in Natural Curiosity's four-branch framework of children's environmental inquiry informed by Indigenous perspectives. In this fascinating discussion, Claire shares the findings from the CoP as well as stories from educators who have implemented the empathy model in their teaching. Guest: Claire Underwood is a Doctoral Student at the University of Cincinnati, where she is the Editorial Assistant for the Children, Youth, Environments (CYE) Journal and conducts research with the Artlitt Center for Education, Research, & Sustainability. After more than a decade working in non-profit leadership and community organizing focusing on environmental and social justice, Claire returned to academia to earn her Master's in Environmental Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth. There, her work focused on the impact of nature-based learning on children's empathy development. Claire co-designed and co-facilitated a seven-month professional learning experience that supported 15 early childhood educators in deepening their empathy practices through intentional & respectful engagement with Indigenous peoples and perspectives. Through her work, Claire seeks to support teachers, children, and their families in creating experiences that affirm children's agency, support their connection to the Earth, and work meaningfully together toward a just and sustainable present and future. Why do politicians write poems? And what does a politician's poetry tell us about their leadership? In this episode, a collective of researchers from the University of Oslo discuss these questions by focusing on India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Modi has a highly visible and extremely complex public image. He often appears as a firm and decisive defender of the nation, intent on taking India to new global heights. At other times he may emerge as the humble son of a teaseller, who has made it to the top despite all odds. And, at yet other times he may appear almost as a sagacious Hindu holy man and kingly ruler. What is less well known is that Modi is also a poet, with several published collections of poetry to his credit, in both Indian languages and in English translation. What does Modi's poetry reveal about India's Prime Minister? What are we to make of a man who is both a staunch Hindu nationalist, a populist, and a self-professed poetic soul? Indeed, what is the relationship between Modi the poet and Modi the politician? Niladri Chatterjee is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Development and the Environment, University of Oslo. Deva Nandan Harikrishnan is a Doctoral Student at the Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages, University of Oslo. Arild Engelsen Ruud is Professor of South Asia Studies at the University of Oslo. Guro Samuelsen is an independent researcher with a PhD in South Asia Studies from the University of Oslo. Our host, Kenneth Bo Nielsen, is Associate Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Oslo, and one of the leaders of the Norwegian Network for Asian Studies.
