Pinkney, a leader in the struggle against the corporate takeover of Benton Harbor, Mi. He put a spotlight on the drinking water crisis in Benton Harbor. Reverend Edward Pinkney was a prisoner in the state of Michigan who was falsely accused of election forgery and sentenced to up to 10 years in prison despite a lack of evidence indicting him. Rev. Pinkney served 30 months in prison despite the fact that his case was on appeal. The Michigan Court of Appeals denied Rev. Pinkney's appeal. However, in 2017, in a tremendous victory for the people, the Michigan Supreme Court exonerated Rev. Pinkney. The two have corrupt, violent and racist histories including their participation, respectively, in the 1969 Veterans Memorial Incident and the 1972 Rochester Street Massacre. Both events played a major role in Detroit's Black history. Alexandre Ansari won a $10 million jury verdict Feb. 9 for damages from his wrongful conviction, the highest amount paid out to an individual involving the City of Detroit to date. Ansari was falsely charged with the 2013 murder of Ileana Cuevas and the shooting of Cuevas' sister Rosalind Barley and Miguel Figueroa. He was exonerated in 2019, after investigations by the federal Appellate Defenders Office and the Wayne Co. Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU). He was also charged in the murder of Figueroa's brother in a separate incident later, also involving DPD's Jimenez, but was acquitted by a jury.
