A lot could be riding on the Government's upcoming global investment summit. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's hoping to tease out more foreign financial investment in New Zealand's projects and industries at the two-day event in March But Simplicity Chief Executive Sam Stubbs says he's concerned Luxon will spend more time focused on offshore money than domestic money. He told Mike Hosking getting a dollar from overseas is a lot harder than getting a domestic dollar in the door. Stubbs says we'll need to be providing a lot of incentives, something we've typically steered clear of in the past, and you can't just set up an expo tent, sprinkle it with a few All Blacks and expect foreigners to invest in New Zealand - it's a competitive business. He says it's all very well to focus on the offshore money, but he thinks the size of the prize is much bigger domestically. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this interview with BizNews editor Alec Hogg, Corion Capital Chief Investment Officer David Bacher discusses the market dynamics of November. Bacher shares his cautious outlook on the US market, citing stretched valuations despite strong performance driven by a rising US dollar and President Trump's economic policies. He advises moving away from US assets in favour of more attractively priced opportunities elsewhere. Turning to South Africa, Bacher highlights positive economic developments, including a sharp drop in inflation to 2.8%, which may lead to interest rate cuts and bolster the bond market. South African equities saw solid performance, particularly in retail and agriculture, although the resources sector struggled due to weaker commodity prices. Bacher also notes that South Africa's political challenges remain, but reform prospects offer hope. Globally, he sees opportunities in Europe and parts of Asia, particularly India and Southeast Asia, due to strong growth potential and rising consumption.

What if the key to understanding asset value lay not in traditional stocks or bonds, but in the complexity of options? Join us as we sit down with seasoned trader Cem Karsan, who offers an insightful look into how options are transforming from mere derivatives to pivotal elements in market analysis. With a staggering $30 trillion in new investments forecasted to hit the market this year, Cem discusses the nuances of risk management and collateral leveraging, drawing from his extensive trading floor experience. His unique perspective shines a light on how options provide a clearer picture of asset distribution, challenging conventional wisdom.Venturing into the global emerging markets, we examine how geopolitical tensions and election-related positioning could influence market behavior, particularly in a period Cem terms as a 'window of non-strength.' The ebb and flow of market trends and the anticipated re-leveraging towards the year's end are dissected, offering a forward-looking view on investment opportunities. Despite external uncertainties, the conversation remains optimistic, analyzing the structural forces behind interest rate trends and the misconception that Federal Reserve policies have solely driven inflation. The discussion probes deeper into economic inequality, stirring thoughts on the sustainability of current economic systems.Rounding off the episode, Cem shares invaluable insights into his investment strategies and educational projects through Kai Volatility and Kai Wealth.
