Dive into the inside story of Project 2025, the plan that shaped the Trump administration and set the stage for the next wave of conservative policy. Paul Danz, former director of Project 2025, reveals how this strategic initiative delivered the Trump agenda, took on the deep state, and prepared conservatives for lasting influence in Washington. From election integrity to budget reform, hear firsthand how bold ideas became actionable results and what lies ahead for America's future.
In this hard-hitting episode, we cover the inside story of Project 2025 — the blueprint that shaped much of President Trump's agenda — and the political and judicial failures that have real consequences on the ground. Paul Danz, architect of Project 2025, explains how his work prepared the administration for day one, fought bureaucrats in the deep state, and continues the conservative fight in Washington. We also dive into the deadly consequences of inaction in South Carolina: how illegal immigration enforcement gaps, light sentencing, and political calculations contribute to tragedies, including fatal drunk-driving cases involving illegal immigrants. From courtrooms to the governor's office, this episode exposes systemic problems in law enforcement, deputization policies, and judicial accountability — and what citizens can demand moving forward.
October 5, 2025; 7am: Last night, President Trump authorized the deployment of 300 National Guard members in Chicago against the governor's wishes. This move comes amid clashes between immigration officials and protestors over the ICE raids around the city. Meanwhile, a federal judge in Oregon temporarily blocked his call up of 200 National Guard troops to Portland. The Trump administration has already appealed the decision. Today's Headlines: President Trump has formally declared the U.S. to be in an “armed conflict” with drug cartels, invoking war powers and ordering military strikes on Caribbean boats the administration labels as “terrorist organizations.” Lawmakers in both parties are skeptical of the legal basis but—shocker—seem unlikely to act. Meanwhile, the government shutdown has left 750,000 workers unpaid or furloughed, and the White House is now threatening permanent firings with help from Project 2025 architect Russell Vought. Shutdown propaganda even seeped into federal employees' auto-replies, which were forcibly edited to blame Democrats. The Energy Department axed $7.6 billion in clean energy grants, conveniently targeting states that voted for Kamala Harris. The administration also sent nine universities—including Vanderbilt, MIT, and Brown—a “compact” demanding they overhaul admissions, freeze tuition, and abolish certain departments in exchange for federal funds. Elsewhere, the FDA approved a generic version of the abortion pill mifepristone, sparking predictable outrage despite it being a routine process. Yom Kippur was marred by a deadly terror attack at a synagogue in Manchester, where two worshippers were killed and the attacker was shot dead. And finally, Commerce Secretary Howard “Laughin'” Lutnick, a former neighbor of Jeffrey Epstein, suggested Epstein blackmailed powerful men with videos, casually detonating months of damage control efforts with a single podcast appearance. On todays show Charlotte, James, Sarah, Glenn and Dwayne talk about Project 2025, a political initiative by the Heritage Foundation, which outlines conservative policies for a future Trump administration. Key points included proposals to abolish the Federal Reserve, replace merit-based civil servants with Trump loyalists, and implement strict immigration policies. The conversation also touched on the potential impact of drone technology, including the challenges of countering drone threats and the legalities of drone use. Additionally, the group discussed the implications of the Pope's comments on immigration and the potential for Russia to seize assets of countries that confiscate Russian assets. The discussion covered various topics, including the use of drones to invade privacy, the government shutdown, and the impact of memes involving sombreros and mustaches on political figures. They discussed Trump's use of social media to counteract Democratic criticisms and his administration's plans under Project 2025. The conversation also touched on Venezuela's strategic importance, its cartel connections, and the U.S. military's pressure on Maduro. Additionally, they debated the Super Bowl halftime show choices, particularly Bad Bunny's popularity, and concluded with a humorous discussion about a bear-related anecdote from "War and Peace." Do not miss it!

We continue to build on the idea that white Christian nationalism is, was and has always been the foundation of this country. To suggest otherwise is to be both ahistorical and absent in our politics today. The violent response to a concept so utterly innocuous such as “Black lives matter” should tell us everything. Before it was a movement (of sorts) it was a simple statement. But the reality is that they don’t. We need to stop calling it “Trump’s America” and just call it what it is. America. Since his election in 2010, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has transformed Hungary from a democracy into a quasi-authoritarian country. In Hungary today, elections, economic policies, and the media are warped to benefit Orbán and his conservative Fidesz Party. Orbán's government, with its consolidation of executive power, Christian nationalist and anit-LGBTQ policies served as inspiration for Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation's plan for Donald Trump's second term. Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts has called modern Hungary “not just a model for conservative statecraft but the model.”A new documentary film, Democracy Noir, shows how Orbán changed Hungarian politics. In the words of Budapest-based journalist Babbett Oroszi, Orbán has “hacked democracy” – quietly using the levers of democracy, rather than a violent revolution, to accomplish his aims. The film tells the story of modern Hungary through the eyes of three three female members of Hungary's resistance – reporter Oroszi, nurse and activist Niko Antal, and Tímea Szabó, an opposition leader in Hungary's parliament. Our guest, director Connie Field, has followed Hungarian politics since the country's first years as a democracy in the early 1990s. An American progressive and award-winning documentarian, she has a shrewd eye on how Orban's actions are being mirrored in the United States. The episode also includes discussion of a new leader who observers think has a real chance of upending Orbán's hold on power in the 2026 election.LEARN MORE:Watch a trailer for the film, find out where it's being screened, or request a screeningDownload the discussion guide.Connie Field bio ABOUT THE SHOW The Making Peace Visible podcast is hosted by Jamil Simon and produced by Andrea Muraskin. Project 2025 has quickly become the most consequential—and controversial—blueprint for American governance in recent history. Conceived by the Heritage Foundation and launched with a sprawling 927-page policy manual in April 2023, Project 2025's core goal is to reshape the entire federal government according to staunch conservative priorities. It is, as Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts puts it, an effort to “dismantle the administrative state and restore presidential control over the executive branch.”Yet behind those words lies an ambitious checklist for the next presidential administration, presuming a Republican—most likely Donald Trump—takes office. Project 2025 is not just a collection of ideas. It is a detailed playbook, complete with executive orders, departmental reorganization timetables, and a so-called 180-day playbook, designed for rapid execution on “Day One.”At the heart of Project 2025 is an unprecedented push to centralize power in the Oval Office. The plan relies on the controversial unitary executive theory, which argues all executive branch employees should be directly answerable to the president. Kevin Roberts has been explicit: “All federal employees should answer to the president.” According to the project manual, entire agencies such as the Department of Justice, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Federal Trade Commission would lose their current independence and fall under direct White House control. One of the most sweeping reforms revolves around personnel. The blueprint resurrects the idea of “Schedule F”—a Trump-era category that would allow the president to reclassify tens of thousands of career civil servants as political appointees, instantly stripping them of protections from partisan firing. The National Federation of Federal Employees warns this would “give the president and his loyalists full control of the executive branch for personal and political gain,” hollowing out civil service checks that have traditionally protected against corruption and patronage.Concrete examples illustrate the scale of the changes envisioned. In foreign policy, the State Department chapter recommends that, before January 20, all leadership be dismissed and replaced with ideologically aligned “acting” appointees who bypass Senate confirmation entirely. Kiron Skinner, the former policy planning chief who wrote this section, has called for removing staff she considers too left-leaning, despite admitting she could not name a single time employees substantively obstructed White House policy. The playbook doesn't stop there. Project 2025 proposes slashing federal workforce numbers through forced attrition, with the White House directing agency heads to lay off or consolidate thousands of positions and eliminate entire offices deemed non-essential. For example, agencies like USAID and the CFPB are earmarked for dissolution, their functions either axed or merged into departments more closely monitored by the executive.Critics from organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union highlight how Project 2025 seeks to erode key civil liberties across a range of issues—abortion, LGBTQ rights, free speech, and the environment. The ACLU describes the initiative as “a roadmap for how to replace the rule of law with right-wing ideals.” Meanwhile, labor unions such as AFGE and NTEU have mounted lawsuits to block the executive orders targeting civil service protections, warning of the dangers of introducing broad political loyalty tests into government hiring and firing.Supporters claim these moves would eliminate bureaucratic inertia and bring swift, accountable leadership to Washington. Yet, legal scholars and former officials have called Project 2025 authoritarian, warning it undermines separation of powers and blurs the lines between partisanship and governance. With the November 2024 presidential election looming, Project 2025's fate comes down to political winds and court rulings. The Heritage Foundation and its partners have prepared a rapid-fire battery of executive orders, ready for signature if they get their candidate in office. Milestones to watch include ongoing legal challenges, Congressional resistance, and, above all, the outcome of the national vote. The scope and ambition of Project 2025 are nothing short of historic, representing both a culmination of decades-long conservative advocacy and an inflection point in debates over the very structure of American democracy. For the 224th episode of Private Parts Unknown, host Courtney Kocak welcomes adult film performer and activist Siri Dahl. In this episode, we delve into the impact of conservative anti-porn legislation, including Project 2025 and the Kids Online Safety Act, on the adult entertainment industry and sex workers. Siri offers insight into how the industry has evolved over the past decade, from the rise of platforms like OnlyFans to the increasing censorship and regulation of online adult content through age verification laws. She explains how these laws, under the guise of protecting children, are actually a backdoor attempt to ban pornography and criminalize sex work. Siri also shares her thoughts on the cultural stigma surrounding sex work, the challenges sex workers face in finding "civilian" employment, and the ongoing fight against piracy and content theft. Tune into the Corn Telethon, a 24-hour livestream on Thursday, September 4th, to raise awareness about the free speech rollback thanks to Project 2025, as well as funds for sex worker organizations. But, no need to fear – we're leaving y'all with some extra brain juice to keep you company while we're offline. We're dropping an ENCORE POD EPISODE of when we collabed with the iconic “Boom! Lawyered” hosts Imani Gandy and Jess Pieklo IN DC and broke down SCOTUS' Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic arguments back in April. It went a little something like this… ATTENTION BUZZKILLAHSSSSS! WE DID A LIVE THING – in DC! Yep. Your “Feminist Buzzkills” joined forces with the “Boom! Lawyered” pod for an epic live show! After getting word that SCOTUS was hearing a case that could result in eliminating any healthcare provider from Medicaid payments if they provide abortion, we geared up for battle for one super-sized show with the amazing “Boom! Lawyered” hosts Imani Gandy (Rewire Editor-at-Large) and Jess Pieklo (Rewire Senior Vice President, Executive Editor.) We break down what this case means, and fill you in on all the outrageous tricks clown lawmakers across the country are playing trying to destroy access to reproductive care. It was a packed show full of rage and shenanigans and the DC crowd LOVED IT! This episode unpacks the arguments in Medina v Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, a case that could upend Medicaid beneficiaries ability to enforce their rights under the public benefit program all because conservatives hate abortion. We get into the history of efforts to kick Planned Parenthood out of the Medicaid program, the bad faith arguments made by conservatives to the Court as they try to do so again, and how a bad decision in the case could impact way more than access to abortion. Recorded LIVE at the Black Cat in DC, we gotta give a huge shout out and special thanks to the Black Cat crew for making the space for our loud asses AND for everyone who showed up! Tune in for the legal brilliance, the laughs, the knowledge, and some actions you can take to be the change you wanna see in this world. Times are heavy, but knowledge is power, y'all. We gotchu. Scared? Got Questions about the continued assault on your reproductive rights? THE FBK LINES ARE OPEN! Just call or text (201) 574-7402, leave your questions or concerns, and Lizz and Moji will pick a few to address on the pod! OPERATION SAVE ABORTION: WE DID A THING EARLIER THIS MONTH! The Feminist Buzzkills took some big patriarchy-smashing heat to The Big Easy and recorded a live workshop that'll train you in coming for anti-abobo lawmakers, spotting and fighting against fake clinics, AND gears you up on how to support abortion patients and providers. Air Date 8/24/2025 The nature of politics and public policy is that there's always a need to balance opposing interests. Almost nowhere is there a more intractable set of opposing interests than in the attempt to protect children from harmful content on the internet while maintaining free access to adults, particularly because people wildly disagree about what qualifies as harmful and what degree of privacy invasion is an acceptable tradeoff. Send us a textToday, I'm here with my good friend and fellow podcaster, Ken Fong. Every week, the two of us dig deep into the big conversations shaping our lives, our culture, and the soul of our nation. We come to you from different vantage points, different life experiences, but with a shared commitment to truth, curiosity, and connection. This week, we talk about something that's been quietly eroding the way we live together as Americans — the loss of a national audience. Remember when 34 million people tuned in to watch The Cosby Show? Today, Stephen Colbert barely pulls in 3 million viewers. We're living in silos now, fragmented into tribes, each consuming our own narrow stream of information. Entertainment. E pluribus unum — out of many, one — feels more like a historical slogan than a lived reality. We'll also tackle the ongoing culture wars: from attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion, to the rise of a “colorblind” narrative that erases cultural heritage, to the growing movement to merge church and state. Figures like Doug Wilson, Pete Hegseth, Russell Vought, and Charlie Kirk are openly advocating for a theocratic America — one where women are subordinate and “Christian nationalism” rules the land. And beyond politics, we're looking at the real impact of fear and division — from ICE raids in our neighborhoods to the suppression of voices that challenge the status quo. It's time to wake up. For this "Summer Friday" we've put together some of our favorite conversations this year:David Graham, staff writer at The Atlantic and an author of the Atlantic daily newsletter, plus author of The Project: How Project 2025 Is Reshaping America (Random House Trade Paperbacks, 2025), looks at where the initial actions of the Trump administration align with the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025, and what's still to come. From our centennial series, Deb Whitcraft, founder and president of the New Jersey Maritime Museum, and Emil Salvini, author of several books on the history of the Jersey Shore and host of "Tales of the Jersey Shore" for NJTV, take us through the larger history as listeners share their memories and stories from the towns and beaches that fit under that giant umbrella of "the shore".Young men broke heavily for Trump in November. Andrew Marantz, staff writer at The New Yorker and author of Antisocial: Online Extremists, Techno-Utopians, and the Hijacking of the American Conversation (Viking Press, 2019),discusses the reason behind this phenomenon and how the left might make gains in this demographic. From our centennial series, Tina Jordan, deputy editor of The New York Times Book Review, and a co-editor of The New York Times Book Review: 125 Years of Literary History (Clarkson Potter, 2021), looks at the history of best-selling books and what that says about the past century of American culture. These interviews were lightly edited for time and clarity and the original web versions are available here:Catching Up on Project 2025 (Apr 25, 2025)100 Years of 100 Things: The Jersey Shore (Aug 12, 2024)How the Left Can Connect with Young Men (Mar 28, 2025)100 Years of 100 Things: Best Sellers (May 21, 2025)

Six months in, how have the Trump administration's actions aligned with Project 2025’s plan? The Atlantic’s David Graham joins the show to assess. Lawyers representing Harvard University and the Trump administration were in court yesterday over the White House’s stripping of billions of dollars in grants. MassLive reports. Over a month ago, members of the National Guard were deployed to Los Angeles amid protests. Jenny Jarvie, national reporter for the L.A. Times, says many are now bored. Plus, the sentencing of an officer involved in the killing of Breonna Taylor, why beef prices are going up, and a new study about the odds of having a baby boy or girl. Today’s episode was hosted by Shumita Basu.
During a congressional hearing yesterday, Republican lawmakers accused university leaders of failing to do enough to combat antisemitism on their campuses. That's a claim that the university officials strongly rejected. The hearing was the latest attempt by Republicans to use what they see as the growing threat against Jews to their political advantage. And it reflects a plan that was first laid out by the Heritage Foundation, the same conservative think tank that produced Project 2025.That plan, known as Project Esther, may have once seemed far-fetched. Katie J.M. Baker explains how it has become a reality.Guest: Katie J.M. Baker, a national investigative correspondent for The New York Times. Background reading: Even before President Trump was re-elected, the Heritage Foundation, best known for Project 2025, set out to destroy pro-Palestinian activism in the United States. University leaders rejected Republican attacks, saying they were working to protect Jewish students but also free speech on their campuses. For more information on today's episode, visit nytimes.com/thedaily. Trump's “Big Evil Bill” sped through Congress, to sell off public lands, gut healthcare, destroy rural hospitals, outlaw state AI regulation for a decade, make it harder to take out loans to go to college, and unleash an immigration enforcement regime bigger than anything we've ever seen. ICE will now have a budget bigger than the FBI, DEA, U.S. Bureau of Prisons combined. This is an oligarchy fever dream that will painfully backfire on everyone. Trump's Big Evil Bill is the blueprint of Project 2025 in action: a theocratic, authoritarian takeover of our democracy. This bill will expand presidential powers, weaken the lower courts, and crush humanitarian protections and put our already militized police state on Russian Olympian super steroids. Russell Vought, Trump's OMB Director and the architect of Project 2025, made sure the money was there to turn July 4th into a funeral for the American Revolution by installing a mad king. But here's the truth hiding in the despair: the more pain this bill causes, the more people it radicalizes. Just as past generations rose up during times of injustice, many Americans, especially those who embraced Trump's con, like those manosphere-brain rotted Gen Z men, will be forced to wake up. They'll see the betrayal. They'll feel it. And some will finally fight back. The far-right had a 40-year plan. We need ours. One model: The Gay Revolution by historian Lillian Faderman. It's the story of how love, courage, and relentless organizing by small groups of determined people, many forced to become activists because of state cruelty like the kind we're now seeing, and won against impossible odds. The Gay Revolution is our roadmap of hope, and it pays tribute to the countless men and women, many who risked everything, many whose names we may never know, to cast out the darkness with love and defiance.
