In Part 3: George Jared and Jennifer Bucholtz continue their investigation into the 1975 cold case of Deborah Sue Williamson. Deep into this investigation, new witness statements are examined, inconsistencies identified, and surprisingly, downright lies are told, as our authors ask why anyone would lie about the known facts? Now, straight out asking "why?", the responses become more mind-blowing, creating more suspicion as the situation evolves, with a critical witness mysteriously refuses to cooperate. Applying statement analysis and examining the psychological implications of behavior provides greater insight into the motivation of a killer as well as those playing critical roles in this case. Since publication, NA testing has been done; Whose DNA will be found at the crime scene? What happened in that carport that dark night of Aug. 24, 1975, in a carport in Lubbock, Tx? Liz Flatt drove to Austin, Texas, mostly out of desperation. She had tried talking with the police. She had tried working with a former F.B.I. profiler who ran a nonprofit dedicated to solving unsolved murders. She had been interviewed by journalists and at least one podcaster. She had been featured on a Netflix documentary series about a man who falsely confessed to hundreds of killings.Although she didn't know it at the time, Flatt was at a crossroads in what she had taken to calling her journey, a path embarked on after a prayer-born decision five years earlier to try to find who killed her sister, Deborah Sue Williamson, or Debbie, in 1975. It was now 2021.She had come to Austin for a conference, CrimeCon, which formed around the same time that Flatt began her quest, at a moment now seen as an inflection point in the long history of true crime, a genre as old as storytelling but one that adapts quickly to new technologies, from the printing press to social media. Flatt met a woman who would later put her in touch with two investigators who presented at the conference that year: George Jared and Jennifer Bucholtz. They were podcasters, but Jared was also a journalist and Bucholtz an adjunct professor of forensics and criminal justice at the for-profit American Military University. Their presentation was on another cold case, the murder of Rebekah Gould in 2004, whose killer they claimed to have helped find using a technique that has quickly become a signature of the changing landscape of true crime: crowdsourcing. This story was recorded by Audm. April 30, 2023 marked the 15-year anniversary of Linda Malcom's murder. AMU investigators Jennifer Bucholtz and George Jared traveled to Port Orchard to join four of Linda's sisters, Cindy, Dianna, Rochell, and Sherry, to commemorate this solemn milestone. During their trip, Jen and George arranged to meet with Port Orchard Police Department. Upon arrival, they were pleasantly surprised to be introduced to three new investigators from the FBI and state-level attorney's office, who had been solicited by local police to provide investigative assistance on Linda's case. In addition, Jen and George also learned the police department had applied for, and received, financial grants to fund extensive, high-tech DNA testing on evidence from Linda's case. As part of their effort to spread the word on Linda's case in the community, Jen, George and Linda's sisters sat down for an interview with local news media journalist, Elisha Meyer. You can read his article in the Kitsap Daily News. They also hosted several public events including a presentation and meet-and-greet, where community members were invited to join, in order to build renewed interest in Linda's case. Hear reaction from Linda's family as they learn police are really “sinking their teeth” into solving Linda's case. Listen to the episode to hear more about the incredible progress on Linda's case and the renewed hope among Linda's family member that her killer will soon be identified and brought to justice. "There are a lot of actions this killer took. Stabbing her 18 times, setting the house on fire.... They took additional measures that weren't necessary to kill her, a level of overkill."In the early morning hours of 30 April 2008, authorities in Kitsap County, Washington were contacted by residents in Port Orchard. There, along the 1100 block of Sidney Avenue, a fire had broken out, and just before 4:00 AM that Wednesday, the flames had become evident to sleeping neighbors.Firefighters quickly put out the flames and discovered the remains of the woman that lived inside, 47-year-old Linda Malcom. A Navy veteran, Linda had lived in the home for over a decade, and was prepared to move to nearby Bremerton just days later. Yet, before she could take this next step in her life, an unknown subject had stabbed her to death and then set her longtime home on fire...Special thanks to Jennifer Bucholtz and George Jared, who have taken on Linda's case as their next case to highlight. Tonight we start our dive into the unsolved murder of Deborah Sue Williamson, known to her friends as Debbie. Debbie was an 18-year old newlywed that had been married for about 10 weeks when she was killed. Her husband Doug Williamson discovered Debbie's bodies just hours after she was murdered. In cases like Debbie's we know the husband is always suspect number one. But Doug's alibi was rock solid, and he had no motive. By all accounts, Debbie and Doug were happy. The book "Silent Silhouette" written about Debbie's case, unravels the details of where and what the people in Debbie's life were doing that night. Was it robbery? A planned attack? After 47 years, the questions haven't been answered. Who murdered Debbie Sue Williamson?Thank you Chateau Wright for sponsoring the show this month. (Part 2 of 2) This week's unsolved homicide is about the story of an 18-year-old young woman named Deborah Sue Williamson who lived in Lubbock, Texas. She was stabbed 17 times in her carport. She would die just a few feet away from her front door. Deborah was a newlywed. She had recently married a man named Doug Williamson. She was supposed to meet her husband at the Pizza Inn restaurant he managed. After she didn't show up, he became worried. He tried calling around to find out if anyone had seen his wife. At 1 a.m. he left work and found her lifeless body. Naturally, Doug was the primary suspect since he was Deborah's significant other. However, law enforcement cleared him because he was at work the entire evening and never left. Her case was basically forgotten for several years until a prolific killer named Henry Lee Lucas confessed to killing Deborah. This story was profiled on the Netflix series titled The Confession Killer. Today, the case remains as cold as the heart of the person who killed Deborah. This would change when an investigative journalist named George Jared and his partner Jennifer Bucholtz, a former Army counter intelligence officer took an interest in the case. The crimefighting duo traveled to Lubbock, Texas to find out who killed Deborah Sue Williamson. Their investigation was more thorough than law enforcement's. They visited the crime scene and investigated most of the key people involved in the case. They put their findings together and presented them in a book titled “Silent Silhouette.” George has said the book doesn't name any suspects. He presents case facts from his own interviews and the original police file and allows the reader to make his or her own deductions about what happened to Deborah Sue Williamson. The case still hangs over Lubbock, Texas like a dark cloud. There is still hope that law enforcement can use modern technology to find evidence unseen to the human eye. So who killed Deborah Sue Williamson nearly 50 years ago? If you have any information about this case, please contact the Lubbock Police Department at 806-775-2865. Deborah Sue Williamson was a newly married young woman living in Lubbock Texas on Aug. 24, 1975. One night while her husband was away at work, she was brutally stabbed 17 times in the carport of their home. Many suspects were investigated, but no one was charged. The case went cold until the mid-1980s when Henry Lee Lucas, a man notorious for admitting to murders he didn't commit confessed to her murder. It was profiled in the Netflix doc series The Confession Killer. There was only one problem. He didn't kill her. Her mother and stepfather proved Lucas didn't end Debbie's life and the case went cold once more.True Crime Author and investigative journalist George Jared teamed with his friend and former Army counterintelligence officer and university professor Jennifer Bucholtz to study the case in-depth. The two became acquainted while trying to solve the unsolved murder of Rebekah Gould. In that case they were able to lure the man, now charged with the 22-year-old woman's slaying, onto a Facebook page. Their interactions with him prior to his arrest garnered national attention. Their goal was to do the same in this case.Follow their year long journey that took them from the mountains of Colorado to the deserts of West Texas. Their investigation led them through row crop fields of the Mississippi Delta and into the rolling Ozark hills in Missouri. The tandem was able to track down nearly every witness, person of interest, and suspect in the case.Along the way they created a massive team of citizen detectives that have brought resources to bear on a case that is now 47 years old. The team created a investigative file many times larger than the original police file. The goal was to create a web that the killer could not escape.Silent Silhouette is an in-depth look into the work that was done, complete with full interviews of every key player in this real life tragedy. One thing became clear as the investigation unfolded. This case is solvable and it's only a matter of time before this killer is behind barsSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio.
